I just read this and it was so intense. I completely immersed myself in it. I loved every moment a brilliant book. Love the review even a few years later. 👍🏼

I loved it, I find it funny how many people just throw it to the wolves once they see what it’s truly about, weird it’s like it’s not your book or something. Was it the best book ever? No but it was different and I applaud the approach he took.

Had the exact same experience with Perks as you did! Legit found it at the start of my freshman year and saw the movie the day after my first Homecoming dance. I also started as a Charlie and ended as a Patrick (especially funny considering thats my real name). I just started Imaginary Friend and love it! Stephen Chbosky is not afraid to take risks with his work which makes it so great!

I ordered this book yesterday and was a little concerned after seeing "iffy" reviews, but I decided to take a chance on it. I also trust your word, so I might actually enjoy Imaginary friend, honesty the majority of criticisms were for the length of the novel.

yay! I hope you like it. Don't let the length discourage you!

The first 400 or so pages were great. Was a 4-5 star up to that point. It then descended into a complete hot mess of very blatant allegory and repetitive dialogue and prose. I cannot DNF a book as a matter of principle. So I slogged through. Didn’t get better. 2 stars just because the beginning started out so great. Sorry.

I stilled like it throughout but I generally agree with you on this, the middle-end disappointed me at how symbolic it was all meant to be

Yesss thank you!! I loooveddd the first half. Second half not so much. I think he tried to pack too much into the book. Wish he could've kept it shorter and simpler, would've been much better
