      @Mark Montano The owner of that big old Cat should give it a brand new, full set of teeth. There would be a definite improvement in digging performance.How about the size of the operators cab on this 5230. Lots of elbow and leg room available with that cab.This 5230 is probably one of the early examples of the so called mining class excavator operator cabs. Today, in 2021 it is pretty much industry standard.Very good move by the designers, considering the operator will be working a 8-12 hour shift at the controls.By the way, I gave your comment the thumbs up Mr. Montano.

    Another excellent video production by PAmining !!! Wow, that big Cat has been digging for 25 years now. Very impressive longevity for a hydraulic excavator. I’d be interested to know what the hours are on that unit.

    • @PAmining
      @PAmining  2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Thank you I appreciate it friend! If I had to would guess I would say it's probably in the 35-45,000 hour range. All mines have an operating schedule based on market demand and economic conditions which are different for each type of commodity. If you pick say copper or gold which probably has a more consistent demand than coal, those mines can run up to 24/7. But because the coal market is always changing, most Appalachian coal mines will operate 5-6 days a week on a single or double shift. So even though the iron is 25 years old, the hours may not be as high as you would think.

      @@PAmining Thanks a Lot for the very informative response. Now I understand how mining equipment accumulates hours.As you pointed out, there are so many variables involved in the industry.Especially the coal mining sector.By the way, have you ever heard about or seen a mining class excavator with 60,000 hours or more on the clock? I’m thinking that 60K would be the upper limit for a very well maintained machine.I’m aware that the electric rope shovels can do 100K-120K or more hours.But I know little about hydraulic excavator service life span.Take Good Care.

    • @williamhall9204
      @williamhall9204 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @Johnny Murff Those haul trucks are rated at 150 tons capacity.They are pretty much a perfect match with the Cat 5230. The big Cat fully loads the trucks in 5 passes.If you do the math,you’ll realize that each loaded bucket of the 5230 is 30 tons of rock and dirt.

Is that machine basically like the 6015B only earlier, or is it smaller, or what exactly? It looks huge compared to the operator. One other question- how is the rear counterbalance weight dented like that? Is it not a solid block of metal?

    • @PAmining
      @PAmining  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well luckily most coal mines lock into contacts for a fixed rate on off road diesel which can be over a few year period. For example, where I work we are paying $2.50/gallon for the next two years, but we also burn 20,000+ gal a week lol. Consumer prices are always higher than bulk, but bulk is where fuel companies make their money.
