    Something people forget when talking about switching shoulders is the type of barrier. Theres no sense in worrying about minimizing your body if a bullet can come through the wall or door frame (your already fully vulnerable). But if your holding a corner while your team is crossing the street the switch shoulders so your exposure is minimum.

    Love this type of training. I would also add that doing a quick look is a great way for me to determine where I set the length of pull on my stock So when you quick look my left hand doesn’t move and I can still operate my light. To long on the stock and my left hand can’t reach Hope this helps chem student

    • @geodkyt
      @geodkyt 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Swapping shoulders is why I run Ye Olde Neck Sling (just looped behind the neck, not behind the shoulder) at the length I do - just long enough I can get it to my weakside shoulder without having to adjust anything or choke myself is still short enough I can pull tension in a hasty sling from strong side by cranking my support arm elbow if I need to lock down. (Still better to loosen the sling - Thank God for quick adjusts like the Vickers Blue Force.)
      Of course, it works better if you can get the rear sling point as high and as far to the rear as practical. It's do-able, but just barely, on an AR with a "weak side" sling mount at the end plate. And on a stock AK with a Russian GI sling, the sling may or may not be long enough...

  • @burhanettinhasdemir4964

    Well, as a Milsimmer I got a little bit offended but yeah. We don't know the stuff you talk about as much as the soldiers do. One of my friends that have done his military service as a commando said to me that line. "You are just facing bb's. Get hit with a 7.62 and then I will see you around. You can leave room for mistakes but I can't." At that time, I thought that all that stuff I have been learning was only "partially true". That is why I moved away from some of the people in the airsoft community that thinks "I play airsoft so I know everything about guns." I say, no you freakin don't. What I'm saying is, airsoft is a good training but cannot even match with the combat knowledge of an experienced soldier. Thanks for the information and efforts.

    If you want to get into serious transition work look to a SEAL or a Marine who work in maritime environments. Army units (Rangers/SOF) are very entrenched in their two point slings due to the types of engagements they commonly have. Travis Haley articulates the nuances of pros and cons of 2 point vs 2/1 point slings really well. Trying to shoot strong hand from the support shoulder might work a little, but its creating a contorted mess of tension and is clearly a bandaid to work around the sling across the neck. Worth mentioning that vehicle operations (in and around) is a major environment where being able to shoot fluidly from both shoulders is really important.

    I only started practicing the "quick look" technique recently, and solely because of the speed advantage in flowing back and forth. Never even considered the combatives point - yeah, I don't think I've ever practiced "bayonet" type techniques left handed, and even open hand stuff has been probably 90% right hand dominant.

    Good info and perspective. Transitions are definitely over utilized on the flat range. Slightly different handwork for the transition than what I was taught but seems solid. I’ll try a few reps each way and see if there’s a distinct advantage to one over the other in terms of speed and retention strength.

    To be fair, even though we have dominate sides in Brazilian jiu-jitsu, judo, and wrestling, we still practice both sides. Personally I have some techniques which are more dominate on my "weak side" then my "strong side." This is because I also specifically train techniques to favor most people's weak (left) side. One good training philosophy that has worked well for me has been: learn the technique well on your strong side, then train it on your weak side later.

    I was never able to be consistent switching hands so I always went to switching shoulders cause to me there’s a lot more benefits. You can keep your flow, makes it easier to engage multiple targets, more concealment, if I’m first in I can go in and easily and faster switch back to my dominate side. Being able to switch hands is important but for the most part I just switch shoulders. I’m cross eye dominant so switching shoulders isn’t an issue

    Yup. He knows his sh!t. I'm also a pro in cqc and currently deployed right now, in Afghanistan. The match starts in about 1 minute. Rounding corners while holding in the left trigger, the "aim down sights" button along with movement on the joystick (strafing) it's not easy to go left to right around corners. Clicking in the button to lean helps some but not enough.
    The Artificial intelligence of bots is becoming tuff. They fire RPG's at you, while standing 3 ft away, killing themselves in the process is BS.
    Respawn takes forever. So it's best to practice your shoulder bump or swap.

    • @TacticalRifleman

      No. Not to me. Rather, practice switching Eyes. You can bring it up under either eye. Example, guys that are cross-eye dominant can still shoot... they are just bringing the pistol up under their other eye. Same for switching eyes, easier with a red dot, but switching eyes with the gun pulled back closer to your face allowing you to pass through narrow doorways. Give it a try. Thanks for watching, TR
