I've been crocheting for 50 years and there's no way I could crochet that doily in less than an hour. I'm totally impressed.

One oddball thing about this ep. Game #3, I immediately eliminated Bob Phillips #1 because I knew that that man was an actor in many TV shows, westerns, etc... that I've seen, often as a hit man, villain, cop, etc... Turns out he's Bob Phillips, but also Robert Phillips who began acting in 1952 and continued to do so for a few decades in many projects up to 1997! I guess he honed his acting skills as an undercover man and then parlayed it into a paying screen career. Yet he didn't appear on "Tightrope!"

Bud is so diplomatic and great at putting a positive spin on things. Polly was upset with the crochet champion for giving an answer to her made up question and asked him about it at the end. After the poor man, whom didn’t seem all that educated gave his reply, Bud said, “An honest attempt to tell the truth, sometimes it just comes out the wrong way.” Bud knew the man wasn’t intentionally trying to mislead and said the perfect thing to smooth the waters. Polly could understand that and the man didn’t have to feel bad about it.

Contestant 2 in game 2 had a nice face. Ralph Houk would go on to manage the Yankees to several World Series Championships. It helped that he had Maris and Mantle batting in his lineup and Whitey Ford in his rotation.

I'm glad Polly's game one trick failed, even if the real guy screwed up his answer. That gambit is so tired, annoying and lame anyway. (As if Polly would have had the slightest clue who the World Champion Crocheter was 3 or 4 years prior...!)

It looks as if Kitty Carlisle was also upset with the way game #1 ended. I have noticed in other episodes, that the panel will "write off" the "slower" contestants. The question from Polly was a set up, glad it backfired.

Peter Donald is perhaps best remembered, if at all, for being one of the regulars on radio's FRED ALLEN SHOW. He played an Irish character called Ajax Cassidy, one of the denizens of Allen's Alley. His talent with dialects also served him well on CAN YOU TOP THIS? where he was resident joke teller. He did an immense amount of other radio work, starting in the late 20s and must have often crossed paths in those days with Bud (Superman) Collyer.
