I think The Villages is the best retirement community in the US. My wife on her death bed said I had to move to the villages because I was a golfer and she was worried I wouldn’t do anything in Tennessee. I lost her in 2010 I move here in 2011-12 was renting trying to find the house I wanted to live in had some personal problems moved back to Tennessee finally I was able to buy here in June 2022. I think now my wife can relax in heaven. It’s hard living alone trying to be sociable something I lack. My wife was the sociable one great host lots of friends but I was always just the husband of her friends. Believe me she tried very hard for 40 years. I’m a Vietnam combat veteran and it’s something that the VA is trying to help me with but after 55 years lack of it a hard trail. The Villages is where it could happen to me a lot of friendly people. Good Cannel I’m glad I found you, thanks.
Thank you for sharing your incredible story Mr. Delaplain and for your service! I don't think I've ever had the opportunity to 'speak' with a Vietnam combat veteran. Yes, your wife in heaven must be proud of you for making the move to The Villages.
It looks like a very expensive ant colony, to each his own. I think that I will stay on my 8 very private acres in the woods. The older that I have gotten the less I want to be around nosy people.
This is what I think of The Villages... A cruise ship on land.... I was hooked on The Villages. All that it offered. I was looking for all of it and imagined how my life would be. When I arrived in Florida looking for homes, Villages was my first stop..... It was great. The town squares, golf that included the 18 hole and less than. The community amenities. Both the smaller community centers and the larger regional. What appeared to be a rather vibrant community. Why I didn't settle in The Villages. Homes much to close together. Residential roads were designed for golf carts, not cars. Pretty much forcing the golf cart. Centralized mail boxes, owning a home does not mean I am in an apartment complex. The some what lack of access for cars, travel and parking. Golf cart parking for many locations were also limited. Then came the purchasing a home.... The extensive listing of fees. On the surface they make it appear that amenity fees are low, they are not. Similar amenities are available in most all 55 and up communities, for far less cost........ Agreed that on the appearance of it. The Villages certainly has it's attractions, and no doubt a very popular destination for many. For me, it was more of what I wanted to give up from what I was accustomed to. Also what I was going to tolerate when it came to listing of fees associated with The Villages. Also, weighing the options of what The Villages offered compared to other communities, and how my life changes would be going forward. I chose not to settle in The Villages..... I am very happy with the decision I made.
Lord have mercy. I am not retired and neither is my husband and we are in our house for 7:00 PM. I hate being anywhere after dark. 9:00 would be late enough for me.
Yeah, I'm still about 20 more years before I retire and my husband still works as well. Most nights, we are in early after long days at work. We appreciate a quiet neighborhood :)
We still have family commitments here in the NE so our move will have to wait but we are watching a lot of channels about The Villages and your points are well taken. My husband and I both don't know if we want to live so close to our neighbors; his dream of having a woodworking shop would not be possible; also, you're right about it being a community with gates and not a gated community. The jump in the cost of homes has really made us rethink and look at other Florida communities. Thank you for a wonderful overview and your opinions are valued.
Good to know that you are learning a lot about The Villages by doing research on TH-cam. Yes, the proximity to neighbors is a big consideration for people who are used to wide open spaces! Thank you so much for your kind words and good to know my opinions are valued! Have you seen my video all about our First Day in The Villages/Empty House Tour-->th-cam.com/video/W3HzmTq3lHQ/w-d-xo.html
The plus being close to your neighbors is you don’t have such a big yard to take care of or pay other people to take care of.. especially if you are a snowbird resident.
Did they tell you that the Villages community has I think now three huge wood working shops for residents to use? I think that's the thing that sold my husband on the community.
In 2009, I spent a week here as part of a Group Study Exchange Program. I've never been anywhere like this before. I stayed with a friendly local (Dick and Nancy Campbell). I played golf and drove the golf cart. It's nothing short of fantastic.
Thanks for sharing your story! Glad to hear you had nice memories here in The Villages! Hope you check out some more of my videos about TV! I love documenting our life here!
Lots of people age 55+ still work full-time, want to do things and go places after work, including swimming and tennis - the courts are not lighted at night, and not all go to bed early. Not everyone age 55+ is retired and sleeping. The lifestyles of the working 55+, and not just the retired and very elderly should be considered more by the developers and businesses.
Hopefully, this will change over time, especially if more folks come in and want to stay out late. Supply vs. demand? Unless it's restricted by the Villages owners?
Thanks for sharing your experience. Yes, our previous house had a very high maintenance yard so we chose our courtyard villa now so that we can save money on the landscaping and irrigation.
@@donnaleeclubb119 I've been living in the DC area for 20 years, and I can't stand the summer weather. I am not used ot it. You couldn't pay me to move somewhere it's even hotter. I get rashes on my skin. Absolutely disgusting feeling.
Just so people know and I didn’t realize it told later, that there is virtually no public transportation should you need it if you can’t drive because you’re older and can’t see as well or because you need to go to the doctor and you can’t drive yourself home because of vision or some of the reason.
@@GracejoyTV yes there is Uber and Lyft if it’s allowed in the villages, i Uber and Lyft can be very expensive and change their prices based on demand so it’s not a direct replacement of public transportation
@GracejoyTV. Hi Grace, are there alot of Air BNB rental homes on Lake Sumter?? I ask because my husband and I would really like to consider moving there, but want neighbors not renters. Is there a problem with that in your area? Are you in Lake Sumter as well? We were also considering Lady Lakes. I saw you commenting on Robyn Cavallaro's channel
Hi Dana! My husband and I live 10 min away from Lake Sumter Landing (by car) and are there frequently. We’ve been checking out homes at Creekside Landing and dreaming of living there and just walking over to restaurants, shops, movie, etc. When we drove around about a week ago, we noted there was at least 5-7 homes for rent which surprised me a bit. Thanks for stopping by from Robyn’s channel! She’s awesome!
@@danacaro-herman3530 I saw that she also replied to your question :) Yes we loved living in Harbor Hills in Lady Lake. We had a house there for 4 years. Part of The Villages is in Lady Lake. hi. are there asian stores close by. looking for filipino stores. my wife still wants to work for 2 more years. we are from northern California. thank you
Hi! There's a Filipino store about 15 minutes outside of The Villages located in Leesburg, FL. Most of the Asian stores are in Orlando. Wow, 2 more years! Hope to see you here soon!
@@GracejoyTV thanks. I need my pancit and lumpia. My wife still wants to work 2 more years. Are there employment opportunities there even in retail. I am retired. Is it safe to leave the house unattended once in a while.
@@GracejoyTV Thank you! I was looking for that information. I would love to snowbird for 5-6 months and rent it out for the rest. Does The Villages have property managers to oversee short term rentals or Airbnb's?
I have lived in the Villages for about 12 years now and the only thing I dislike is there seems to be an overwhelming amount of grumpy old men. They are everywhere. It is terrifying at times, always asking dumb questions making you repeat everything more than once. Other than that it is great.
When they are finished widening road 441/27 with more lanes eventually with the new subdivisions and there are some divisions besides the villages and they will bring more congestion and then those new. lanes will be congested.
Thank you for your informative video. My husband and I were obsessed with the idea of moving to The Villages about a year ago and recently, completely got turned off by something that came up within the rules of living in the Villages. It's sad, really. It's about the restrictions of getting to work on your own vehicle inside your own garage. My husband loves to do his own work, and also do some welding at times, on his own projects. Looks like The Villages does not allow this kind of thing. So.. we are looking elsewhere now. I think you had some very good points too.
You're welcome and thank you for sharing your thoughts. I'm glad you found out about that rule before you and your husband made the big move. I'm sure you will find just the right place :) Best wishes!
Do you have any other suggestions on where to live that you can do your own work like your husband? Because mine likes to do this kind of thing to, and we were thinking of moving to the villages. 😢
We arrived in our rental in McClure after a 2 day drive immediately following the closing on the sale of out R.I. home. After a day of rest we met up with our TV agent yesterday who took us over to see an Avondale model courtyard villa with golf cart garage we might like and almost immediately we knew that was the one!! Our agent was able to put a hold on it for us when it was released for sale this morning, and in a few hours we sign the contract and give the deposit. Although the sale happened fast the journey was about 5 years when we started researching TV, made 2 lifestyle visits, and following the last visit we knew TV was where we wanted to retire. TV is not a place for everyone, but 140k residents and now 142k think it is a pretty terrific place to call home.
Wow! What an exciting day!! Did your signing of the contract push through?! So glad to hear you found a place in TV! Have you seen this short tour of our Courtyard Villa?-->th-cam.com/video/lS-2WMdO38M/w-d-xo.html
I live in a rural community about 15 miles outside of a medium sized city. Our traffic is especially horrific in the morning and afternoon/early evening as all the people who moved out here for the "country" atmosphere and good stable school system commute to jobs in the city. Even during mid-day there is always a steady flow of traffic. But like you said in your "things we like" video, there are more advantages and good things that come with living where we choose, so it's worth the compromise.
The traffic at the four corners, (192 and 27) is just awful. Over the past 3 years the houses being built in our area have boomed, must be 2 to 3 thousand. Florida is bursting at the seams in some places
I moved here April 2022 I already don’t like and want to move out feel like getting rip off and too hot feeling home got nailed on tires got to pay for new one can’t fixing using again. Supermarket foods too expensive
It’s better then a retirement home where our elders life big high small appertments with a little balcony I find it very interesting to see thanks for sharing this 🇳🇱
Lakeside cottages are really nice looking and they’re built mostly different from each other but they don’t represent how most of the villages look. In my opinion . Most of the subdivisions are built quickly and a built-in a cookie cutter fashion and look mostly alike except for a different color paint. The Lakeside cottages in general are the most expensive for their size.
Also just so people are aware who might come from the north, any or most of the houses on the water could have alligators that come closer to sun themselves since they’re, it’s possible and every water reservoir in Florida there can be gators. So A gator for example may come up during mating season to sun itself on your lanai or porch.
@@enjoyslearningandtravel7957 The Lakeside Cottages are about $1.5 million when one comes available for sale. Maybe a little less if not on the water. Very pretty though!
TV is definitely not for everyone, but for a retirees, where is better? We have been here exactly 2 years and think it's fantastic. I would say to anyone who doesn't like it, definitely move!! the market is good for resales. I have very few complaints but I kinda knew them going in. but overall its a great place. we are having a ball! (61 and 59 years old)
I mentioned and showed my previous home because I at that point, I've had dozens of 'Home Tour' videos of our home at Harbor Hills. @@shanematthews7713 Aside from my beautiful parish in CT and the traditional Latin masses and autumn, I love Florida!! I was a staunch New Englander, born and raised there, it's lost A LOT of it's luster due to no commerce, very little shopping, depressing grey skies in winter ( in my state) and a few other things.
Yes, I think that the areas that don’t have sidewalks is a big disadvantage because some people like to walk and there’s other people driving that go really fast around the bend in the road and there’s walkers or joggers or people walking their dog and they have to walk in the street !!
I know this video is a couple years old hope you’re well but the construction will never end no matter what. Every acre of trees and wild orange groves will be chopped down and paved over till there’s none left. I’ve lived here in central Florida all my life and agree with your list but the daily intense rain and thunderstorms through June-September is something transplants should be aware about lol
Thank you for your thoughts and for finding my 2 year old video! Lol. I hope they don't chop down EVERY acre of trees. And yes, June 1st starts Hurricane Season which comes every year.
True, homes are not far apart, but based on your video, I didn't see anyone outside their home nosing around in your business! Been coming down for four years now and nosy-neighbors never been an issue. Everyone seems to stick to their own. If you want to see people though head to the square from 5-9pm!
There are some gorgeous premier homes with large lots. Yes, in my video, of course you did not see any nosy neighbors. Majority of them are wonderful :) Thanks for watching and glad you enjoy The Villages every time you visit! Visit us more!
If you have good neighbors the tight proximity of the homes can be a beneficial social boost. But there's not even enough room in the yards for a plunge pool, very odd given the hot climate. Are there community pools just for the residents?
Hi Pete! I agree, IF you have good neighbors the tight proximity can be a good thing! Yes there are about 90 community pools around the villages ranging from Adult Pools, Sports Pools, and Family Pools! The closest one from our villa is a 2-minute walk!
Now that our kids are older, we don't use our yard like we used to. We still have all of the yard work to do, though. I'm looking forward to downsizing and having a small, low maintenance yard!
I understand. After my brothers and I moved out years ago, my parents worked a lot in their yard (pulling weeds, planting, etc.). They still enjoy it sometimes these days but now that they are older (dad is 70 and mom is 66 I think), they jut want a low maintenance yard because they cannot bend like they used to. Lol. Thanks for watching!
First, thanks for finding my video! Second, I'm not sure if you can. Most of houses have no fence so from what I have seen, they're mostly bushes, trees, and flowers.
I was at the villages for a few days. Too crowded, expensive, homes too close, terrible traffic and too much politics. I'm fine with the heat and humidity.
Sorry to hear your visit wasn't pleasant. I lived in Orlando for over 22 years and Manila, Philippines before that so The Villages is peaceful compared to those! Lol. Thankful I get to live here but yeah, it's not for everyone. Thanks for watching my video though!
Thanks for asking .That's a loaded question. Lol. We absolutely loved living in Harbor Hills. It's a special place. Our house there was me and my husband's first house together. We knew everyone in our cul-de-sac and hung out with the sweet couple who lived next door. (They were in their mid to late 70's) We also loved that it was a multi-generational neighborhood (families, working professionals; doctors, physical therapists, etc.) I can go on and on about Harbor Hills but in the middle of the pandemic, my husband became one of the many who lost his job so after months of not finding another great place to work, we decided it was time to downsize and sell the house. I didn't think I would enjoy our humble 2/2 villa now but boy was I wrong. We absolutely love our place and so grateful to live in the middle of everything The Villages has to offer!
Very helpful video… I like that area the Lakeside cottages I’m considering buying a home there…. I also watch Jerry and Linda. Their blog is fantastic. This is the first time watching your video and I really enjoyed it. Have a wonderful day.❤
Hi Jimmy. Yeah that little neighborhood by the water in Lake Sumter Landing is called Lakeshore Cottages. I heard it's pretty tough getting a house there since there's only a handful of homes (I think around 30). I think Jerry and Linda are hilarious and also bring a lot of value. Been watching them since before I became an official villager. Glad you found my channel!
@@GracejoyTV Amazing Grace… speaking of grace I eventually want to go see Graceland in Tennessee and pay my respects to Elvis and his daughter, Lisa Marie Presley…
Not impossible but pretty challenging. There's Thai Ruby at Lake Sumter Landing. I'd say they're a small business. I would even consider VKI Japanese Steakhouse (also in Lake Sumter Landing) a small business. Some of the real small business owned restaurants are just outside The Villages like these 2 Vietnamese places (Pho Village and Pho Sai Gon) we love to go to: th-cam.com/video/DQgsbZb0Kl8/w-d-xo.html
Most of the homes in the Villages clearly have been designed for a married couple, with lots of stuff, and with children and grandchildren expected to visit. There do not appear to be any homes for a single person (that just wants to play golf), with not a lot of stuff, and no children or grandchildren.
Thanks for sharing your observation. Yes, many of the homes are designed for couples who are retired but not necessarily have a lot of stuff. There are all kinds and sizes of homes depending on your budget. We downsized to a 2-bed/2-bath courtyard villa with a 1.5 car garage. Have you seen our courtyard villa tour? There are apartments in Brownwood and also some 2-story townhomes in Spanish Springs.
Thanks for finding my video. Yes, many of the houses have small lot sizes but there are villages where the homes and lots are large. Just depends on what you can afford in Florida, I guess. And yup, I'm a city girl so I like when stores are open later. (Like the stores in Disney Springs are open until 11pm! Lol)
Love your videos! My wife and I are thinking about moving to The Villages. Have you seen (or experienced) any racism since the population is not very diverse? Thanks.
Hi Howard, glad you found my videos! That's good that you're considering a move to The Villages. I have not seen or experienced any racism. Most people have been helpful and friendly. There are several communities immediately outside of The Villages where many villagers shop (ie. Target, Kohls, TJMaxx, Best Buy, etc. on the north side-Spanish Springs) and there are many different nationalities represented. If anything, people wonder how I get to live here being under 55 years old. Some people don't know about the 80/20 rule/federal law :)
Haha! Thanks for catching my mistake and letting me know! I love LakeSHORE Cottages! The houses there are charming and the residents are friendly. They say hi when you pass by :)
Grace, I’ve been watching some of your older videos recently about Disney World, and have really enjoyed them. I’m a Disneyland OG here in SoCal. I’ve been going to DL since age 3 in 1956. If we move to TV we plan to make trips to WDW occasionally. I’ve only been there once and that was for two weeks in Jan 2020, so I only got a small taste of it. It was so much fun (though overwhelming), and I had perfect weather. 😊
Hi Nana Deb! Thanks so much for saying hello all the way from Disneyland in SoCal! That's soo awesome! Wow, yeah, you've been going to Disney since you're 3, that's amazing! Because my younger brother works for Disney, we've been able to take my nephew Nathan to Disney World since he was only 6 weeks old! Yes! I hope you move here in TV! Disney World is a short 1 hour drive away and it's a nice drive! I agree that the cooler months would be the best time to visit the theme parks! Hope to hear from you gain and hope you subscribed :)
My sister and I LOVED Disneyland and Disneyworld in the 70s and 80s. My husband and i took our son to Disneyland in 2009 and it was great. But we took him again to Disneyworld in 2010 and found ourselves dodging motorized scooters and also found the theme had changed from basically an appreciation for America to All about the Movies. Not what Walt had in mind and just happy i made my trips when I did years ago.
If you do move there you’ll forget how to drive and everything about road rules. You’ll immediately drive 10-15 mph under the speed limit. You’ll forget that your car has a blinker, and signs like DO NOT ENTER, don’t pertain to you.
I’m sorry to hear if what you shared was a personal experience for you. Maybe this is true for some but Not all who drive in The Villages. Take care and wish you the best!
We watch a lot of videos about the Villages. It looks very nice, but looks too large with lots of on going construction. It’s not for us. There are other options.
I can understand all of your issues with the Villages, but you were aware of these things before you purchased your home, if you did your homework. I think residents should bring the issue of a gated community to the developers. I’m sure a huge majority of residents feel the way you do. There may be a reason why they can’t legally be a truly gated community at this time. If you want a bigger lot, try moving a bit north to a preowned home. They are amazing and many have been updated. I wouldn’t want to live down in the new neighborhoods. With TV growing as fast as it is, the construction is never ending. The result is demands on the road system which will also need to be revised to accommodate the traffic. Kind of a catch 22 situation. It’s a retirement community as you stated. We’re up early and retire early. Don’t think that will change any time soon. Retirees are getting younger and younger. I know you probably really like living in TV. I wish I was there as well. Instead I live in one of the most desirable cities in the Midwest. Good luck to you.
Hi Cynthia, I'm glad you watched my video and thanks for your sharing your thoughts. Yes, we knew that The Villages was growing before we moved in. We did purchase in the northern part (Spanish Springs area) and we love it! Good to hear that you live in one of the most desirable cities in the Midwest! By the way, check out Things We LIKE About Living in The Villages here-->th-cam.com/video/AbszbwdV9iY/w-d-xo.html
The roads in The Villages are owned and maintained by the counties. As a result of being public roads, nobody can be denied entrance. All cars are photographed as they go through a gate.
I didn’t realize the villages until recently was not a true gated community. I thought with all the amount you paid plus the monthly fees per month plus usually a bond for the newer houses that it was a gated community so it was a bit confusing when you see a gate that it’s not only for residents it’s just slow down traffic.
The reason is that the roads are not maintained by the Village's but by the county they're in. Non Villagers pay for Village roads so are also allowed to use them. The wall's and gate are there ro give you the illusion that you have security, you don't.
They do that to keep out "the riff raff". I've seen apartments that charge extremely high rent for the same reason. It's an extremely shady, racist practice.
Thanks for sharing what would be at the top of your list. We have a small backyard/courtyard, which thankfully, is all we need. Less maintenance. Cheers!
I’m making a lot of critical marks about the villages but for some people they really do enjoy it so I was thinking it’s good to know both sides. a balance of both sides.
27 /441construction is a joke, that should have been done years ago, if you moved to northern villages, there is no construction its quiet all the time. Yards are small for a reason, you live in TV for the thousands of clubs, small yards less work more time for enjoyment... the gates are pretty much a waste
Yes, I totally understand The Villages is not for everyone. Thankfully though, the courtyard villas have a privacy fence/wall :) And yes, not everyone like's HOA's. It's called an Amenity Fee here in The Villages and we understand this fee because it pays for us to access all the over 100 pools, tennis courts, recreation centers, and keeping the neighborhoods clean, with flowers, and in order.
Most neighborhoods have high traffic areas. I would not say most seniors go to bed early. Maybe you should find a new area that meets your specs. You should be able to make money off your home in 2022.
Hi Linda, our area now checks a lot of our boxes. If most seniors do not go to bed early, then I am mistaken. All I know is that many of the older folks I know in my life enjoy their rest and turn in early. Best wishes to you!
@@GracejoyTV Buying a home in the villages isn't an investment. When the house is sold there is no property value. Only the balance of an existing mortgage . There are no property taxes in Florida. Amenity fees are just a tax write off A home for $196.000 in 2005 sold for $109.000 in 2016 Amenity fees $500 a month 10 years 8 percent $81. 471 With an excuse of a poor real estate market. It's ashame what can happen after retirement/investment money is gone. It's quite possible to become homeless
The lack of diversity would be my #1 issue. I come from a location on the East coast where there is a great deal of diversity in the population. The fact that they roll up the sidewalks at 6 PM is hilarious! Great video!
I understand how some people may have an issue with diversity but the communities just outside the village neighborhoods (ie. town of Lady Lake) is diverse. For example, if you go to stores and places like Target, Chick Fil-A, Ross, Post Office, Sam's Club, etc. you'll find people of all ages and cultures. Many doctors, physical therapists, specialists, etc. are Filipino, Indian and other heritage :) I could go on. Lol. Thanks for watching my video!
Diversity is not our strength. The Villages are what the USA used to look like, and that is part of the appeal. It is civilized, quiet, and clean. Not like the East coast. Don't worry though, Father Time hasn't lost one yet. The Democrats will eventually get what they want. When they die you can have your utopia.
This question comes up every so often, which is understandable. There's an 80/20 federal law (Fair Housing Act) that states 'at least 80 percent of the units are occupied by at least one person age 55 years or older.' My husband turned 55 last year a few months after we bought our courtyard villa. And actually, the subject of age did not even come up in the house-buying process. I think our realtor/s (and the bank) just wanted to make sure we have reliable & stable jobs to be able to live here :) Thanks for watching the video!
Nope, not much at all! I wanted to do a pros and cons of living here in The Villages (since there's advantages and disadvantages anywhere you live). Just so happened I created the handful of cons first since I knew it would get some people's attention. Hi Virginia. yes, the road construction is temporary but I have been driving through it daily (including weekends) for the last year or so. Sorry to hear about your experience. I bet the noise can get tiring. Our courtyard villa is very quiet since most people's yards are super low maintenance (rocks, small shrubs, and trees) You must have lived near the common ground. Traffic is not the best but tolerable having lived in Orlando for 25 years.
There's lots of people during winter yes. Still tolerable for us. Sorry you had didn't have the best experience here. I'm sure you are happy where you are now :)
I could never live there full-time. My time with my grandkids going to school events, basketball, baseball, football games is too important to me. You can't go back and make up that time. Sitting on my ass and listening to oldies would get boring fast.
Lol, I'll take that as a compliment. I have 12 more years before I turn 55 but there's a rule/Florida Housing Law about 80/20 which means 80% of the residents need to be 55 yrs old and up and 20% can be 55 yrs or below. Also, my husband turned 55 a few months after we bought our villa :)
8 Things We Like About Living in The Villages-->th-cam.com/video/AbszbwdV9iY/w-d-xo.html
People that like Villages are the same weirdos like love disney,
@@jaysantos536 thank you :)
Thanks for your thoughts. Your 8 every private acres in the woods sounds great! Best to you!

Thank you for sharing your reasons why you did not settle in The Villages :) Best wishes!
We moved from The Villages. Getting very expensive to live there. We moved to Alabama so we don't have to pay amenities or property taxes
Thanks for sharing. Glad you are able to save money now because of not having amenity fees or property taxes. Best wishes!

Hello Debora, how are you doing today
Lord have mercy. I am not retired and neither is my husband and we are in our house for 7:00 PM. I hate being anywhere after dark. 9:00 would be late enough for me.
Yeah, I'm still about 20 more years before I retire and my husband still works as well. Most nights, we are in early after long days at work. We appreciate a quiet neighborhood :)
Us too Donna!!😂😂😂 Actually 9 pm is too late for us! I was forced retirement due to health and my husband retired due to age.
@@enjoyslearningandtravel7957 very true. One of the reasons we bought a courtyard villa. Low maintenance yard 😊
And more money saved!
Thanks for your input.
Hopefully, this will change over time, especially if more folks come in and want to stay out late. Supply vs. demand? Unless it's restricted by the Villages owners?
I just find this whole lifestyle like a little stepford village, I don't think.i would be happy there at all?

Is there a problem with that in your area? Are you in Lake Sumter as well? We were also considering Lady Lakes. I saw you commenting on Robyn Cavallaro's channel

Hi Grace, do some people own in the Villages for snowbird purposes, and then rent out their homes on Air B&B? Is that allowed?
Hi Maria! Yes, there are many seasonal residents (snowbirds) in The Villages who rent out their homes on Air B&B :)
@@GracejoyTV Thank you! I was looking for that information. I would love to snowbird for 5-6 months and rent it out for the rest.
Does The Villages have property managers to oversee short term rentals or Airbnb's?
These houses are designed for retirement so yards are small in the villa area. However all areas with designer and premier homes have nice size yards.
Agreed :)
Also, it’s fine to have a smaller yard when you’re snowbird and only there half a year.
I have lived in the Villages for about 12 years now and the only thing I dislike is there seems to be an overwhelming amount of grumpy old men. They are everywhere. It is terrifying at times, always asking dumb questions making you repeat everything more than once. Other than that it is great.
Wow, 12 years in The Villages. Sorry to hear about your experience. Nowadays, I think we need to extend grace and patience :)

When they are finished widening road 441/27 with more lanes eventually with the new subdivisions and there are some divisions besides the villages and they will bring more congestion and then those new. lanes will be congested.
You’re probably right.

Hey thanks for sharing what it's like where you live! I can relate to that. Yes, the advantages outweigh the disadvantages for us :)
The traffic at the four corners, (192 and 27) is just awful. Over the past 3 years the houses being built in our area have boomed, must be 2 to 3 thousand.

Lakeside Cottages looked very nice. Thanks for sharing!
Yes! Lakeshore Cottages is soo charming! I like to envision myself living there by the water overlooking Lake Sumter!

I know this video is a couple years old hope you’re well but the construction will never end no matter what. Every acre of trees and wild orange groves will be chopped down and paved over till there’s none left.

Can I ask you why you move from Harbor Hills as it seem like a great place to live.

It is impossible to find non-American type of food restaurants that are small business owned in The Villages.
I have visited there before. I don't like the small lot sizes. And I don't like that restaurants and stores close early. I don't go to bed at 6pm. 😅
Thanks for finding my video. Yes, many of the houses have small lot sizes but there are villages where the homes and lots are large. Just depends on what you can afford in Florida, I guess.
We can't be a "gated community" because we are HUGE!
The roads in The Villages are owned and maintained by the counties. As a result of being public roads, nobody can be denied entrance. All cars are photographed as they go through a gate.
Hello Cynthia, how are you doing today
I didn’t realize the villages until recently was not a true gated community. I thought with all the amount you paid plus the monthly fees per month plus usually a bond for the newer houses that it was a gated community so it was a bit confusing when you see a gate that it’s not only for residents it’s just slow down traffic.
Thankful that we have the Community Watch vehicles roaming around neighborhoods all day to provide a layer of protection.
It's just a sundown town. Look it up.
@@GracejoyTV They don't carry firearms so what protection are you talking about. They can't even protect themselves.
Not having a backyard would be at the top of my list.
Thanks for sharing what would be at the top of your list. We have a small backyard/courtyard, which thankfully, is all we need. Less maintenance. Cheers!
Did you end up moving?
No, still here enjoying life in The Villages, lol.
Wow…sounds like there’s not much to complain about !
I know right?! I'm thankful I get to live here :) Thanks for watching!
4:03 --4:11 I meant 😆
Looks adorable and quaint.
Yes, many areas are quaint :)

It sounds like being a bit more grateful is in order.
Yes indeed very grateful to be here and just like any place, it has pros and cons.
Thank you for your thoughts and thanks for watching!
At 0:34 - 0:36 those homes are nice. Don't look like traditional Florida homes
I think you mean 3:34 - 4:21
Used to be orange groves on the land...the only oranges now are in the supermarket from God know where.
Thanks for finding my video.
Can not stand one house on top of another most people need more space than seeing your neighbor thru your window accidentally! And haye HOAs
Villas are intended to be smaller, enclosed by walls and definitely close to neighbors. Also cheaper.
Yes, villas are definitely for those who are ready to or need to downsize (AND save money).
Hello Linda, how are you doing today
Three car garages??
What are you speaking of?
That’s it!? Sounds like a great place to live.
I know right?! Just a handful of dislikes. We are thankful we get to live in The Villages!
number 1 should be: it is an HOA
We have an 'Amenity Fee' that we pay monthly. Some people think that is like our HOA.
@@GracejoyTV
Buying a home in the villages isn't an investment. When the house is sold there is no property value. Only the balance of an existing mortgage .
There are no property taxes in Florida. Amenity fees are just a tax
write off A home for $196.000 in 2005
sold for $109.000 in 2016 Amenity fees
$500 a month 10 years 8 percent
$81. 471
With an excuse of a poor real estate market. It's ashame what can happen after retirement/investment money is gone. It's quite possible to become homeless
I’m not a night owl by any means, but I think it would bother me if everything closed at 9:00, especially restaurants.
Yeah but not to worry, there's a couple of restaurants just outside The Villages (ie. Chili's, Applebee's) that are open past 9.
So you don’t like traffic ?
@@GracejoyTV I really enjoyed it! you brought up a lot of things that i never would have thought about. Have a safe holiday weekend!
I like being around my own kind of people. I think most people do except the confused or those who are brainwashed.
Don’t you have to be 55 to live there?
This question comes up every so often, which is understandable. There's an 80/20 federal law (Fair Housing Act) that states 'at least 80 percent of the units are occupied by at least one person age 55 years or older.' My husband turned 55 last year a few months after we bought our courtyard villa. And actually, the subject of age did not even come up in the house-buying process. I think our realtor/s (and the bank) just wanted to make sure we have reliable & stable jobs to be able to live here :) Thanks for watching the video!
Not much to complain about from what I see???
Nope, not much at all! I wanted to do a pros and cons of living here in The Villages (since there's advantages and disadvantages anywhere you live). Just so happened I created the handful of cons first since I knew it would get some people's attention. Working on the things we love about The Villages now and hope to release it sometime this coming weekend! We are so thankful to live here!
If those 5 things are the only things you do not like about the Villages, consider yourself lucky.
Thanks for the feedback. Yes, we are incredibly grateful each day that we GET to live here in The Villages, Florida! What we LOVE here definitely supersede the things we don't like. Thanks for finding my video!
@@GracejoyTV What village is your CYV located? Your neighborhood looks very pretty. We are coming mid-June for our first Lifestyle visit, and want to see older neighborhoods as well as new. Great video! Thanks! 😊
@@DeborahLynnM we are in the Spanish Springs area. Lots of character and charm! That's awesome you have a Lifestyle visit coming up next month in June!
I wish it was TRULY gated.
Me too! We lived in Harbor Hills just outside the Villages prior to moving and that neighborhood is truly gated.
I thought she would have for sure mentioned the extreme rate of STD’s per capita. That’s a real deterrent for me.
Oh, I wouldn't know about that but thanks for watching my video! Best wishes to you!
I believe that is called an "urban legend". 😄
That’s a rumor, there’s always a few people that are swingers, but probably 98% or more are not. Probably a story about a few people exaggerated till it sounded like a few thousand.
Your five reasons were really pathetic I guess that’s more of a testimony to the positives of the Villiages
Lol. Thank you! In case you're interested in the things we do LIKE about The Villages, here it is-->th-cam.com/video/AbszbwdV9iY/w-d-xo.html
"That's all?"
LOL!
I know right?!
Your Video Was Wonderful, I Watched When You First Moved There And When All Your Family Came Over For A Meal, Your Home Is Lovely And I Really Appreciated All This Information, My Husband And I Will Be There End Of June For Our LSV, I Was Happy To See They Have Someone Monitoring The Gates.
Hi Pauline! So glad you found my videos! Yes we love having family over in our courtyard villa. That’s exciting your lifestyle visit is in June already! Stay in touch!
Have a great time! Our LSV is June 11-17. Excited! 😊
@@DeborahLynnM 👍 Thank You Looking Forward To Being There
@@DeborahLynnM Our Visit Is Last Week Of June, I Bet You Are Counting The Days😉
@@pauline4848 Yes, we are! LOL! We are coming from SoCal, and have never experienced Florida heat/humidity, so I’m a bit nervous. Hopefully I’ll survive it, and still want to retire there. 😅😂
Looks like living in Disney World.
Yeah! I enjoy Disney World :)
Road construction? You should live in Michigan. lol only kidding. It looks like fun to me.
Lol. Would love to visit Michigan one day! Glad you found my video!
You go outside in the summer and all you hear is the hum of air conditioners running
Yeah and even know that it's 'winter' you'll hear our heater running! Lol.
We own a home here and at Sun City Palm Desert California. The villages was nice before 2015 now it seems like its filling up with the worst people you would want to live with. We now just rent the villages home and dont even come back here.
I bet your home there in Sun City Palm Desert is beautiful! We still find many good people around here.
curious as to what happened in 2015 that brought a bad element to TV?
Lakeshore cottages . Not lakeside
Oh! That's right. Lakeshore Cottages :)
You forgot to mention hurricanes and all the crazy storms and torrential rains
Yeah the hurricanes and rainy season is all of Florida, not just The Villages. Peace!
That road construction is temporary so why include that in your dislikes? And most restaurants are open late for those who want to stay out late partying. Why is the new construction bothering you? After listening to this video it Sounds like you all should move!!
Hi Virginia. yes, the road construction is temporary but I have been driving through it daily (including weekends) for the last year or so. Many times, the lanes are changing (on 27/441 by where the Target, Home Depot, Kohls, etc) and I have seen quite a few accidents especially during rush hour because people end up in the wrong lane. We actually appreciate and enjoy living here. I just know that everything in life has pros and cons so I thought I would cover both! No place is perfect, right? I wish you only the best! And in case you're interested in the things we do LIKE about The Villages, here it is-->th-cam.com/video/AbszbwdV9iY/w-d-xo.html
@@GracejoyTV I’ve been living in the Villages for two years now. I appreciate your videos and realize they take a lot of effort! I just think you love it here so much and had difficulty finding five things you dislike! 441/27 is a county road not even part of the Villages. Too many non-villagers have misconceptions about the Villages because of people who are either jealous because they can’t live here or just believe every negative thing they hear!! I wish you only the best too!
This just popped up in my feed.. maybe because I live in retirement community here in Phoenix.. but I laughed when you "sort of" complained about stores closing early.. due possibly to retired folks not liking to stay up late (which is true!) BUT then you said you both work?!?!.. so duh.. But I liked learning about the area.
Lol. How is your retirement community there in Phoenix? I'm sure it's very nice and you love it very much. Never been there.
I didnt like the constant lawn care noise each & every day & the traffic was murder .
Way to many people winter months are a nightmare
There's lots of people during winter yes. Still tolerable for us. Sorry you had didn't have the best experience here. I'm sure you are happy where you are now :)
I was here all winter and it’s not bad at all. I don’t know where you’re from.
Looks like living in Disneyland. Too organized and regimental.
We like organized, clean, and well-kept. Best wishes to you and thanks for watching!
I could never live there full-time. My time with my grandkids going to school events, basketball, baseball, football games is too important to me. You can't go back and make up that time. Sitting on my ass and listening to oldies would get boring fast.
Thanks for your input. It's understandable that you want to attend as many of your grandkids events.
Are you even old enough to live there lol. You look and sounds so young :)
Lol, I'll take that as a compliment. I have 12 more years before I turn 55 but there's a rule/Florida Housing Law about 80/20 which means 80% of the residents need to be 55 yrs old and up and 20% can be 55 yrs or below. Also, my husband turned 55 a few months after we bought our villa :)
.my aunt love it
Great to hear! Which area does she live in?
