Paul, Merry Christmas to you too 🎄🎄
Gezellig = pleasant
Merry Christmas everyone! 🎄
The month of december is full of festive days in The Netherlands. The evening of the 5th is 'pakjesavond' (parcel evening) when the presents by Sinterklaas / Sint Nicolaas (the real Saint Nicholas) are given. His birthday is the 6th, but that is not really celebrated (except by the Flemish in Belgium). The fake American imported Santa Claus has gained very much ground here, but Sinterklaas still stands firm after all. The 24th is mostly celebrated within the direct family with a christmas dinner. The 25th usually with some extended family. The 26th is used for 'uitbuiken' (recovering from eating to much). The 31st is celebrated with some extreme private fire works displays. There are some bans withing certain cities, but controlling this is an impossible task. Every year a number of injuries occur, but a national ban is not (yet) in sight. January 1st is a 'mixed bag' with very different ways to celebrate this. There are some TH-cam videos to find on that.
Hi Paul, if you like Dutch dark humor, you will probably like this Dutch Christmas song: th-cam.com/video/zEaV2O1Jz4c/w-d-xo.html
