Literal dream car. Grew up to stories of imported citroens from when my dad lived in Africa in the 60s. My grandfather was in love with these cars and even brought one back to the u.s.

Ah.. the DS, while others were rattling and bouncing their brains out over the rally roads, the French were sipping wine and eating cheese and coming first over the finish line :P.
A car so French, that the USA banned it for a while (I know not the reason they give, it was for "road safety", but everybody knows the real reason :P, as these cars were some of the safest of their time :P).

USA loves to ban french products, because they can't deal with such ammount of greatness.

      Because of the headlight:
-First all headlight in America at that time should be round, it was not a problem for the DS but it was one for the SM.
-second, the headlight cannot have a protective glass, it wasn't a problem for the first DS but it was for the DS post 1967 and the SM.
-the headlight height need to be the same at all time, the problem here was the suspension.
And turning headlight was illegal, which is ironic since the first car with turning headlight was American.

@@benjamincharlin6770 You should remember that the hedlight heigth was the same all the time with a DS, since the hydropneumatic suspensin gave constant ride hight, irrespective of load. As opposed to the primitive and simple american cars with soft leaf-springs at the rear. When only two normal passengers sat in the backseat, the lights pointed at the treetops. But that dosen´t bother the american legislators.....So, yes the probem was the suspension on the american cars, not on the DS!

@@jourwalis-8875 I'm all with you brother, it was just a bunch of excuses to not have a superior car design, they rather keep their primitive pile of shit, designed like a brick, and guzzling petrol like it's free, and then they dare say French car were bad, even though they killed engineering masterpiece like the sm just because they couldn't wrap, there head around it, just like the concorde

    •  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@benjamincharlin6770 It's not really about "superior cars", if the DS managed to be imported in the US it wouldn't have been competitive anyway due to the price of manufacturing and import taxes.
At the time, most countries had border tariffs and stupid regulations designed to make foreign-produced cars uncompetitive on the market. Remember we had in France kept a rule about yellow headlamps, for that reason : car manufacturers wanting to sell their cars in France had to produce a special version with yellow headlamps (and other modifications), thus making them more expensive.
