ZERMATT in Switzerland: The MOST SCENIC skiing village of the alps

- Join my tour through Zermatt in Switzerland and it's highlights - my best tipps for one of the finest destinations of the alps for wintersports with possibilities to ski year round and a car-free fairytale village.
Have you ever been dreaming of a real winter wonderland? Of a place where glaciers cover part of the mountains, where the wind dances with clouds and where snow wraps the rocky peaks like a soft blanket? This place exists in a valley in Switzerland. Welcome to Zermatt - a car- free village in the Swiss mountains.
After taking the Lötschberg car train from Kandersteg to Goppenstein we left our vehicle in Täsch - to approach car free Zermatt with it's customized electric vehicles. We rented an apartment in the quarter Winkelmatt (close to the cablecar that goes to Trockener Steg / Zermatt Glacier Paradies).
Here are my favorite things to do in Zermatt:
- Ski the breathtaking slopes
- Enjoy the view on Matterhorn, one of the most famous mountains in the world!
- Have lunch in a mountain hut at the sunny terrace of a restaurant and try Swiss Rösti or the speciality of canton vallais - the "Käseschnitte"
- Cross the border to Italy on skis!
- Discover the old town of Zermatt with its 500 year old barns and traditional houses
- Shop at idyllic Bahnhofstrasse in Zermatt Downtown
- Hike the surrounding mountains of Zermatt (e.g. to the cross over Zermatt, from where you have a fantastic view!)
- visit the highest viewing plattform of Eruope and the alps on 3883 meters altitude and spot 38 4000 meter high peaks and 14 glaciers in the surrounding mountains
PLEASE NOTE:
Flying drones over the village Zermatt and the skiing area is strictly forbidden due to the close helicopter airports and swiss drone regulations! I operated my drone with a special permit from Air Zermatt.

Zermatt is still largely owned and controlled by the original farming families, such as the Julen family, who put heritage and pride over a fast dollar, that is why it is unique in preserving not only the character but the quality.

I lived in Vail and travelled to Brig where I got a day in Zermatt. MAGICAL! Thank you for this video! What a special place!
American Rockies have the best snow, but the Alps have THE BEST scenery and local character without question. Simply stunning.
Yes there is really nothing like a nice mountain hut at the alps for lunch. That exists nowhere else.
Japan has the best snow. I've skied in Europe, the US and Canada and the snow is not as good as Japan.
Something to do with moisture levels in the ice crystals when they form.
Try it, you won't be disappointed.
We skied Cervinia and Zermatt in 2007 - What a fantastic ski vacation! We loved it and we have fond memories of the people, vistas, and fantastic food as well as the great skiing.

I went skiing in Zermatt back in 1992. This video brings back memories. I love to go back. Went back to Switzerland 🇨🇭 back in 2004, but did not have time to go to Zermatt. Someday.

I visited Zermatt in may 2002 but not skiing, just hiking. It's a classic.

I was in Zermatt in 1973 and there were electric vehicles back then.
If it's one thing Covid restrictions have taught me, its that Lea has/is experiencing the worlds most beautiful places and thankfully is sharing them with TH-cam. I have taken advantage of many opportunities to travel but I have not been to enough, probably won't get to many more, but greatful people are sharing these types of adventures so we can see these places/people etc. Travel safe, well and far - 👍👍

That was a very nice view, of Zermatt you show there✌.
Just a week ago, we walked from Zermatt up to Hornlihutte, then around the lakes to Trockener steg, up to Gandeghutte and walking down to Zermatt. Almost 30 kms of walking. Fantastic hike !

Video and storytelling are excellent! Matterhorn really stands out as one of the most beautiful peaks of world. Sadly, I think I could never afford it to go there because Switzerland is so damn expensive hahaha

Second time I watch this and I enjoyed it even more now. I had to check the height of Jungfraujoch (3.463m) which I thought was the highest place for visitors and compare that to Klein Matterhorn which indeed is a lot higher, 3.883m, as you said. Very interesting. Matterhorn is spectacular and I envy people who have been up there.

I loved the trip because it gave me very good memories of climbing the Breithorn in the summer and the ski holiday we had there a few years ago. Matterhorn rulzzzzz

Frohe Weihnachten! I miss skiing too - I guess I took the best decision to go skiing that early in the season as most places couldn’t even open this year and I as well don’t want to be in a gondola with many other people now that COVID got so bad again... 😔

What a beautiful report from a beautiful place Lea, we used to ski with friends for 20 years in der Aletsch Arena. We made every time we went a daytrip to Zermatt, oder Saas-Fee or Crans Montana. Beautiful, every time again. Travel tipp for you (probably you did it already); The Aletsch Glacier is a visit worth wile. I love your video's and the way yo make them. It shows us a lot of all the beautiful places, and gives us a sneak peak in your heart. Thank you.
