Very true. I think this one will stay awesome for quite some time. I remember seeing this in early July in person and it was already great. Just got better and better...
In 2021, I am amazed at how CLEAN this line actually is. The technicality of the writing isn't the same as today, but it's still difficult. But most importantly, this was one of the cleanest lines I have ever heard. And I've heard and played in quite a few.
@@michaelengle9062 right. If you go look at lines like blue devils 95, they’re cleaner than anything today. Yeah the book is easier but they’re literally tighter on straight 8’s than new lines are.
Plus, this was done while marching…lines today might have a few more notes, but generally they are staged to play then while standing still. I’m pretty sure these kids could play anything from a recent drum corps show with today’s visual responsibilities 😉
I love this break so much....so badass and clean. It sends shivers down my spine every time. This drum break and their glorious closer were definitely some of my top highlights of DCI 2007.
I was there. I remember standing off to the right and watching these guys. I was blown away. I watched BD later on in the lot and just didnt feel it. And im a HUGE BD fan. These guys shoulda won that night.
I've gotten out of the loop with drum corps, but I will never forget seeing PR this year at finals in the Rose Bowl. There really is a certain je ne sais quoi about this year. Indeed a classic and perennial favorite I always come back to.
You're absolutely right. I didn't mean that I want the Phantom to look like the Devs. I like the flashiness of the Devs and the cleanliness of the Regiment
@emeraldstickman95 a grandma is just a paraddle-diddle minus the last two lefts. So the sticking is R l r r l. so four 16th notes and a down beat. the accent pattern is r L rr L. rights are taps, lefts are accents.
usually its hard to score high if your corp places low cause your overall ensemble timing can effect your back to front timing which is also taken into account by the percussion judge
Not only do the drums sound great, there's just enough natural reverb from the lot location to make it sound like it's almost been recorded in a studio...
the reason there is a traditional grip is because back in the civil war the drums were slanted off to the side and matched was awkward since they had to play for days and days. traditional grip was made because the drum was TILTED. and if u tilt the drum u get a lot more power out of it. we played level with trad at my school for 3 years and this year our instructor decided to tilt the snares and u got sooo much more power from it.
@SilverRegiment08 1. I never said they weren't clean. 2. Unless you were there on finals night and heard them perform you wouldnt know. 3. BD won because they were cleaner. 4. Considering the fact that BD played last and Phantom played 4th from last, I'm pretty sure that the judge didn't say, ok guys, you got 2nd in drums because there wasn't enough notes. He may, however, have said there wasn't enough notes but that's not why they didn't win.
not too bad considering i've never tried out for a drum corps before. it was a good experience and now that i know what an audition at a really good corps is like, I think i can do pretty well next time. i'm only 16, i've got a while to go.
@mmdumas Players of this level and quality can do a pretty damn good job sight reading. Getting it perfect, while perfecting technique across the line, and drill, is the trick.
Very very nice. I'm going to assume your son didn't march in 2008 for whatever reasons? I really think you could get some great video views and props from Mr. Rennick if you could do this more often. As I have heard Rennick has been quoted saying that he wants these lot video's up.
:P I came here to find out where Banished got his visual ideas. And that whole time the camera was trained on tenors. Who didn't do visuals. Ah well. Awesome playing, though
I realize that transcribing is a talent, is there any way that I can improve my transcribing? like listening to cadences with a met on or something like that?
Fast singles are possibly he hardest thing to work up. Don't worry about that. Work on getting all your basic rudiment "worked" up. Have the ability to play them at any time at any speed in combination with any other one. That sir, is why they call it rudimental drumming...
2019, and this book is still fire.
facts is facts
right?? especially the second half of this piece, so funky and innovative
Very true. I think this one will stay awesome for quite some time. I remember seeing this in early July in person and it was already great. Just got better and better...
2021 and this comment still applies
2024, and this book is still fire

nothing surprising here.....we weren't exactly neanderthals back then, ya know.

@@reynolds727the rennick lines visual responsibilities paled in comparison to cadets, scv of this time period.
@@rifle2563 agreed. Cadets and SCV were seriously moving.
Rennick definitely smoked like 3 blunts and did shrooms before writing this because oh my God this is ungodly perfection
More than any line of the past ten years, I come back to videos of 07 Phantom. Such great writing by Rennick.
Dude me too!!
Im still watching this... damn.. soo good
]
Same
Bro
same!
Dude that quad break with all the grandmas is sooooo sick! Good Job.
This line will and has gone down as one of the best in the 2000’s, HANDS DOWN
Hall of Famers right here
And didn't even win drums
Probably my favorite book Rennick has written, and he’s written some absolute masterpieces. This has to be his Mona Lisa.
best comment on this video.
lowkey tho the scv 2024 book is gonna slap so hard
If I practiced everyday for 10 years...
I would be able to be their waterboy
You the waterboy, yet?
it's been 10 years bro how's it going
cmon it’s been 12 years now you should at least be an outside flub by now
The tenor book is fire! That feature at 1:20 is incredible.
I love this break so much....so badass and clean. It sends shivers down my spine every time. This drum break and their glorious closer were definitely some of my top highlights of DCI 2007.

Love the tuning of the drums this year.
Damn, I can't believe that I first watched THIS particular video 14 years ago. It's now 2021.
I watched it live. It was (in deep voice) siiiiiiiiiick!
I love how aggressive this book is
I've gotten out of the loop with drum corps, but I will never forget seeing PR this year at finals in the Rose Bowl. There really is a certain je ne sais quoi about this year. Indeed a classic and perennial favorite I always come back to.
Apparently there's only a tenor line... at least according to the camera person
That's due to how Godly Rennick's quad lines are my guy...
Also because I think the cameraman has a kid in the quadline.
Gotta check out those sick grandmas in the feature, man.
1:30-1:40 - HOLY CRAP.
i LOVE playing this music
In my honest opinion, the amazing dynamic contrast really makes this excerpt tasty
It’s pretty cool that the two outside tenor players skipped their basketball tournament to be at this performance.
Well you pay like 4 grand to get into DCI, so id do it too
Back when Paul Rennick was considerably more pixelated.
the best part is at the end where mr. rennick thanks the audience. thank you pr.
Best book of 2024
Time flies; best finals lot I've ever had the pleasure of seeing.
+john deer saw it was uploaded 8 years ago and couldnt believe it. can't believe BD beat this
I agree. These videos don't do justice to the intensity they played with.
The best... Go ahead my younger brothers and sisters...PR'84 alumni
You're absolutely right. I didn't mean that I want the Phantom to look like the Devs. I like the flashiness of the Devs and the cleanliness of the Regiment
Rennick writes for high school drumlines, but then they play at 180 BPM so it sounds awesome.
god damn, everything is so clean!
Bro this is sick!
:13-:20 might the greatest lick to have no flams, diddles, etc of all time.
Still 🔥in 2021
this is flipping amazing. life officially made. period.
This line is sick
I know 2016 SCV was very clean but they're playing on dynasty. Could you imagine if they played on Pearl or Yamaha? My God it would be an eargasm!!!
That section at 1:35 is soooo awesome sounding.
this is seriously the tastiest book ive ever heard
I love Pearl drums. If you tune them right you can hear every beat when you write like this. And that goes for every section!!!!
Yooooooo we played this in our drum show 😆😆😆😆
(Marcus drum line 22)
yeah dude. i was there. sooo much fun.
This is amazing!!! :D inspired me to make my drum line even better!!!
@emeraldstickman95 a grandma is just a paraddle-diddle minus the last two lefts. So the sticking is R l r r l. so four 16th notes and a down beat. the accent pattern is r L rr L. rights are taps, lefts are accents.
Damn that was clean 👌
that tenor solo was sick
1:50 dem egg beaters.....
usually its hard to score high if your corp places low cause your overall ensemble timing can effect your back to front timing which is also taken into account by the percussion judge
yes the visual aspect is important, but it is sound that this corps is known for. the fact that the drum is tilted, doesn't change the sound at all
such a classic
Not only do the drums sound great, there's just enough natural reverb from the lot location to make it sound like it's almost been recorded in a studio...
yes surprised amazing acoustics
0:43-0:53 ... that roll... that writing... i love you Paul
YEAH PAUL!!!!!!!!!!
and THAT'S the way these instruments are meant to be played! :D
the reason there is a traditional grip is because back in the civil war the drums were slanted off to the side and matched was awkward since they had to play for days and days. traditional grip was made because the drum was TILTED.
and if u tilt the drum u get a lot more power out of it. we played level with trad at my school for 3 years and this year our instructor decided to tilt the snares and u got sooo much more power from it.
When Paul Rennick was battery tech for Phantom regiment🔥🔥🔥
those are some tasty beats.
1:00 - 1:27 probably the biggest grin I've ever had on my face.

those drums are tight.

What a fuckin classic
there bassline is freakin sick
OH my lord...i've listened this like, a hundred times in the past few years and 1:21-1:26 STILL makes me drool!!
A big tip of the cap to that tenor line. Damnit. I played Tenors for 9 years and thought my team at the UofA was good. Those boys are flawless.
I NEED THIS MMUSIC!!!!!!!!!!
Still some of the best writing in DCI
Egg Beaters at 1:52
makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside
:)
its cool i did that a few times too
@mmdumas

I actually tried my hand at transcribing it a few years back, I think I did a good job. Let me know if you wanna take a look.
This is probably the best drum feature I have ever heard. Not only was it beefy, it was musical and clean! Very awesome
That first unison.
0:21 EVERYONE- "Sorry, there was a fly on my drum."
omg that's so great
Hello sir @zeldaDrummer
Are you an alumni of PR 2007.?
No offense to any BD fans who may see this vid, but that is what Pearls are supposed to sound like.
jesus christ.... 1:25 gets me everytime!!!
understandable. besides i think its alright to hear snares and bases and see tenors because they are more visual.
@VMFA115Starloric Those are alternated sixteenths mang.
my friend just got back from phantom's camp, he said they had to sight read this
I know BD won drums but DAMM!!!!! Those were some sweet beats!!!!!!!
phantom actually got third finals night, coats got 2nd
Very very nice. I'm going to assume your son didn't march in 2008 for whatever reasons? I really think you could get some great video views and props from Mr. Rennick if you could do this more often. As I have heard Rennick has been quoted saying that he wants these lot video's up.
So I watched this video..... then my parents asked me why I screamed oh my god from my room at 10:30
this.
1:16 🥵
:P I came here to find out where Banished got his visual ideas. And that whole time the camera was trained on tenors. Who didn't do visuals. Ah well. Awesome playing, though
well paul rennick did, he gave them the music then they arked up and played it 5 mins later
jesus christ. right at 0:04 those quads!!!
this shit gets me all the time
RIGHT?
lol thats still one of the hottest break that was ever wrote
@everybody Any 2007 PR drumline alumni here.?
if i was a judge i would be totally biased and always give the best score to the rennick drumline. then i would get fired.
where can I get this?
I want it baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaad!
yeah but the percussion caption went bd bluecoats phantom
I realize that transcribing is a talent, is there any way that I can improve my transcribing? like listening to cadences with a met on or something like that?

i have the majority of the snare book
Anyone have the snare music for this (or any show music from PR)? Will trade.
@spatrickswadener really? cool where can i get the snare part?
I belive if a drumline take the phantom's clean way of playing with the flashiness of the blue devils that drumline would be unstopable
does any1 know wer i can get sum sheet music 4 this on tenors
What corps do you march?
