I'm glad she brought up that is NOT just a Black/White issue. We Latinos and the Asians are ALWAYS overlooked in the race discussions and it's annoying!
***** The problem with Hispanic/latino is that it is not a race... Latinos are a big mix of everything: caucasians, natives, and blacks. Some latinos are mainly black, some are mainly white (like in Argentina for instance), some are mainly native (like in Bolivia), some are equally mixed between white and black, native and white and so on... That mexican girl in the video, whether she likes it or not, she's white/caucasian... Maybe not fully, but she's partly for sure! I'm 100% european but she's whiter than me.
Its funny when the Asians tell their story the audience laughs but when its a Black woman telling stories of her racism they gasp like someone just died
I noticed that too. Everybody loves to laugh at the Asians while shouting that they are the biggest victims of racism. When many of the people laughing are probably guilty of racism themselves.
@Review Sam I was saying that everybody loves to laugh at the Asians while shouting "We are the biggest victims of racism" simultaneously. Anyway, I don't doubt that black people have the highest number of incidents of racism in most areas. Asians, however, are bullied more than any other race. And it just so happens that black kids bully more than any other race. So there are some areas where it's not universal.
zxsani I think when she says "white" she means it as a race. She is not talking about skin color. My sister has been asked if she is white with her light skin, dark hair and green eyes. My yougnest brother has light skin, light green eyes and brown/ blond hair. The three eldest have dark brown hair, tanned skin and light brown eyes. We are a great mix of my parents. Both are Mexican. My mom has dirty blond curly hair, white skin and light brown eyes. My father has black hair, green eyes and tanned skin. We are Mexican American and pround. I understand the "your Mexican I thought you were...". People need to get out and travel the world.
@@Paola-jf2qf You can be of full European ancestry (white) and still be 100% Mexican. The girl in blue is clearly a Mexican of mostly European heritage. I notice that many people from Latin America think the're a whole separate race and I don't understand why.
Okay you can clearly see she's not Chinese, my guess was Korean right off the bat. Koreans look completely different than chinese. And why is the audience laughing at the things she was teased ? So ignorant...
I CAN TOTALLY RELATE TO EUNICE. I am Korean myself. And CONSTANTLY people ask me if I am Chinese. Just TODAY, I got called " ching ching chang " in class. It really, really upsets me when people make fun of me like that. Although I'm in advanced math at school, I SUCK. Kids come up to me at school and ask me for help with homework, and I say I don't know, and they're like " you're asian, you're supposed to be good at math " and it hurts.
I worked with a Korean woman once and she was so bubbly and lively and we talked about it and she told me that she always keeps a smile plastered on her face because otherwise people think that she's mean.
One of the wisest things I heard here on the blond ambition "Tyra Show" is when Tyra said she feels connected to other people of color and all people of color need to support each other. Well said Tyra.
this show is not a joke, these are real issues that really do happen. i face this issue every freakin day. im really happy someone is actually talking about this.
I always get mistaken by white even though I'm Puerto Rican but it's really stupid how people consider a hispanic person "Mexican" and a Asian person "Chinese" yet they don't do that with White people they don't say "Oh hey are you Swedish?" Or black people "Are you Jamaican?"
Last time i check Puerto Rican is NOT a race, it's a Nationality or Ethnicity. Puerto Rican are mostly Mixes but also White & Black. Compare Marc Anthony with Tego Carderon, you will see one is White & the other Black but both are Puerto Ricans. So you are a White Puerto Rican.
this is funny how tyra is 'all against judging and putting people into categories' but when it comes to her impression of the white and black guys she is clearly stereotyping....
There are differences actually. I cant really explain it but when i see Japanese and Chinese i can usually tell the difference. Might be a bit harder with Chinese/Korean but still they have different facial structures even though they are all oriental
Why do you hate that? Lots of people think Asian eyes are beautiful. In many, many girls wear the cat eye eyeliner to make it look like they have an epicanthic fold. 1. I LOVE Tyra's impressions, they're hilarious! 2. I guessed the Asian women's races correctly. (booyah! :P) 3. I have the same issue. People always assume that I'm Chinese and are surprised when they find out I'm half Japanese. Example, my mom sometimes gets spoken to in Chinese or Korean, and she has to say "I'm sorry, I don't understand you." I know people of those races that aren't the stereotypical kinds of people, but I do know or have seen people who are exactly the stereotypical Asians.
Hispanics go through the same things Asians do, everyone who is Hispanic is Mexican, everyone who is Asian is Chinese. People are able to distinguish races if they see them everyday or if they are part of that one race. I can't believe people weren't able to make out the differences on how a Korean or Chinese woman looks. But its true all races, have stereotypes within each others cultures.
Sweet. I guessed right on the Korean lady. She's very beautiful btw. When Tyra said most of the audience voted Chinese, I was already shaking my head. I watch a lot of Korean TV. Korean, Japanese, Chinese, Vietnamese, etc. actually look completely different from each other. At least to me.

@ScholaroftheDay21 (continuing from previous post), , so those in Latin America (South and Central America, and some Caribbean countries like Cuba and Haiti, etc) and Latin Europe (Romania, Italy, Portugal, Spain, Andorra, France, the French-speaking part of Belgium, and the Italian and French-speaking parts of Switzerland are all considered Latin peoples because they all speak a Latin-derived language. The only people in Spain and France not considered Latin are the Basque.
@ScholaroftheDay21 Also, Hispanics DO fall under Latin/Latino because all Hispanic people once spoke Spanish or Portuguese, both of which are Latin-derived languages. The reason why Latin people can also be White, Black, Indian (Amerindian/Native American) or Biracial is because the term Latin is just a linguistic term (meaning it's just about the language they speak)...(continuing in another post)
I understand how they feel because people do that to me. Everyone assumes that I am Hatian, but I am from the Virgin Islands. And it really upsets me. I have nothing against Hatians. What people have to do is ask people what's their nationality instead of assuming that they were something else.
Well,we don't exactly have lessons at school that are specifically about telling us all the ridiculously small differences between the japanese, chinese, korean, thai, nepalese, singaporean, vietnamese, malaysian, indonesian or tibetan. That's like expecting Africans to know what state a person is from based on their appearance. The chinese are basically the most known type of Asians,so we associate them that way more often than not.
@ScholaroftheDay21 And the reason why the Basque people (which are in both Spain and France) are not Latin is because Basque (the language) does not derive/ come from Latin (the Langauge).
i am mixed...my dad is half chinese and half aussie..my mum is fully chinese so since i am more chinese than anything else, i look very asian. I am so proud to be chinese and australian but people take one look at me and go, oh..asian. nerd. or tryhard. or something they make me feel ashamed of my race, but in the end of the day, i tell myself, this is who i am. And i love it. But i really do hate it when i go overseas and people think we're a chinese family.we COME FROM AUSTRALIA YA'LL!!
They aren't saying people mistaking them for another race or nationality is racism. They're saying it's a lack of understanding about other cultures and nationalities. It's an ignorance that MANY people (not just whites) have. People like to clump all asians together, all latinos together, even all blacks and all whites together. It's the fact that we don't see different cultures, that we don't see INDIVIDUALS. It's not necessarily about racism, but rather preconceived notions.
Generally I can tell the difference between people native to Asia. And I also think that people (I used to when I didn't know better) generalize others. When people see an Asian they automatically think "She's Chinese." If the person is speaking Spanish people think "Oh, he's Mexican." I understand this POV b/c both Mexico and China are very large countries (@ least on a map) and they are often spoken in relation to the US.
one thing is, there are SO MANY different countries with similar looks, if i meet someone hispanic i ask them... they cant expect people to be like "oh, her noce is smaller so she's from chile" people dont think like that and no one has the time to memorize all the different countries and what insignificant detail makes them different.
i feel like them! my entire family hail from Nigeria but people just assume i'm black! but i am proudly Nigerian and my name is even exotic but i still am labeled "black" but i am African. Nigerian to be more exact. I speak my native language even though i was born in America, my parents were born in Nigeria. I have Nigerian traditional wear and root for them in the Olympics and i am very proud. But i wish people would stop calling me black

I KNEW SHE WAS KOREAN! HAHAHAHAHAHA
Generally I can tell the difference between people native to Asia. And I also think that people (I used to when I didn't know better) generalize others. When people see an Asian they automatically think "She's Chinese." If the person is speaking Spanish people think "Oh, he's Mexican." I understand this POV b/c both Mexico and China are very large countries (@ least on a map) and they are often spoken in relation to the US.
oh my goshh!
she's so right, some of the guys in italy are SO scary
they follow you!
one thing is, there are SO MANY different countries with similar looks, if i meet someone hispanic i ask them... they cant expect people to be like "oh, her noce is smaller so she's from chile" people dont think like that and no one has the time to memorize all the different countries and what insignificant detail makes them different.
Just because you can't see the difference doesn't mean there is no difference.
thanks for clearing that up for the folks here. peace! :D
i feel like them! my entire family hail from Nigeria but people just assume i'm black! but i am proudly Nigerian and my name is even exotic but i still am labeled "black" but i am African. Nigerian to be more exact. I speak my native language even though i was born in America, my parents were born in Nigeria. I have Nigerian traditional wear and root for them in the Olympics and i am very proud. But i wish people would stop calling me black
