      @@azynkron naslund had a great shot. One of the best in his day right there with Joe Sakic. But naslunds was different cause he used a wooden stick with much less flex. His shot came almost entirely from the wrists. Pettersson uses the flex in his stick like a master, uses both hands and slings the puck like a sling shot.

    9:21 holy shit. he is like gretzky, he uses the threat of passing lanes to control defenders. he holds that puck until deep then he fakes dumping it around the net to move the defenseman just a bit, otherwise the passing lane is covered, and then threads the needle for the one timer. That is some next level shit.

    My one word for him is, threat. Doesn’t seem to matter where he is once he hits the offensive zone, you gotta watch out. Challenge, and he’ll brake your ankles, don’t challenge he’ll just wrist it top shelf. One timer, is insane. Passing. Insane. Skill. Off the charts. Speed. Hockey sense. It’s all there. And this is a rookie season. This is him, before he gets a bigger build, before he’s got a chance to get used to the league. What a season. You’re crazy if you think he doesn’t deserve the Calder. He is single handedly the reason I will be watching Vancouver next year. Don’t worry Canuck fans, your time is coming

      One word: Binnington

    • @Ganjabier
      @Ganjabier 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@rigafraction1653 Binnington played less than 30 games he will not get the Calder lol. He absolutely deserves nominations but playing less than 30 games is just to small of a sample size to challenge Pettersson at this point. Same goes for Dahlin. I guess its going to be Pettersson > Dahlin (18 y/o playing top pairing minutes and potting over 0.5ppg...) > Binnington (btw 26 y/o, having a great season and carrying the Blues).

    • @rigafraction1653
      @rigafraction1653 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Ganjabier Nice try, he played (started) 30 as a goalie, had a 25-4-1 record and lead the league in both GAA and in record. He was dominant and carried his team from missing the playoffs to challenging for division title, plus he played well the entire time he was on the ice this season, without several months of a disappearing act. This is a no contest. P.S. he's also 25, not 26... you didn't do your homework before trying to correct the record.

    • @Ganjabier
      @Ganjabier 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@rigafraction1653 obviously there is no sense in arguing with you ;). we can agree to disagree.
      I didnt say he wouldn't deserve it with 40+ starts but as I said 30 games is way to little GP. You can think whatever but I bet Pettersson will deservedly win the Calder without contest ;)

    • @rigafraction1653
      @rigafraction1653 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      To add, 3 goals in his final 28 games shows that a hot start wasn't necessarily the norm. Far too inconsistent, especially when the season got older and games started to mean more. He's good for the runner up, but Binnington changed the story when he showed up

      Skankhunt42 Of course, but if Gretzky meant what he said and was honest it’s still pretty cool. Im not comparing the to players with each other. Elias is 20 years old so the fact that Gretzky never had any season without a single point until he was 38 is irrelevant in this case, since only the future can tell us how Petterson stands when he is 38. He has a long career ahead of him and anything can happen, good or bad things.

    • @nucksforcup1115
      @nucksforcup1115 5 ปีที่แล้ว +18

      Not quite. Pettersson had something like 2 goals in his last 25 games.. that’s a full quarter of a season and is incredibly inconsistent. It’s even more than a quarter for him since he didn’t play all 82 games. His talent is incredible but to call him a top 5 talent in the league already is a little ridiculous. Is he more skilled than say, McDavid, Kucherov, Crosby, MacKinnon or Gaudreau? I wouldn’t say so, not yet at least. And he may never be. Just be happy with the player that he is. He’ll obviously get significantly better too.

    • @hockeyrule8004
      @hockeyrule8004 5 ปีที่แล้ว +19

      @@nucksforcup1115 I think what he meant by "top 5 talent" is more about potential and not have good he is right now.
      But i agree he is not better then McDavid Kucherov, Crosby, Mackinnon or Gaudreau right now, but perhaps he will be some day.
      except McDavid of course.

    • @nucksforcup1115
      @nucksforcup1115 5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Hockey rule that’s fair. His slump in the last quarter doesn’t change my position on him at all btw. He demonstrated skill that can’t be taught and then kind of burnt out, but that’s all a matter of better conditioning. He’s used to a shorter season in Sweden

      @MrJeffMacleod 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@nucksforcup1115 The talent is there but towards the end of the season he definitely fell off a bit likely due to fatigue and lasting effects from his injuries he had. I'm sure as he gets older and stronger he'll get better and continuing his early season form deeper into the year and being a bit more consistent as the season drags on. It's hard for a guy who's only ever played 50 games a year in a lower level league to be able to produce at a high level over a full 82 game season right away, takes a bit of time to train and get in shape to be able to last the full year without falling off

  • @Twilitblack
    @Twilitblack 5 ปีที่แล้ว +32

    Petey did admit the tight NHL schedule did take it's toll on him and that's fine. He needs to work a little on his conditioning so he can play a full 82 game schedule because he's used to more days in between games in Sweden. Having said that, a fully healthy Petey can wreck havoc upon the league in the years to come.

    • @philipsangalang5077
      @philipsangalang5077 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Strength & Conditioning. It's not even necessarily fatigue to play intense, but that the intensity of games weakens the muscles slowly over time if they aren't strong enough, and he probably felt himself slowly drifting back 3/4 in, until he got it back.
      He will get stronger, and improve his deceptions, and he will be amazing!

    Looking back on the difference in how much of closer physical checks other teams do to him, speaks a lot from this year of his... Look forward to his transformation after he gets over his slump from this level of physicality from this league...

    little did they know the heavily scrutizined pick is already a franchise center heading into his fourth year in the league and is the best european playmaker i’ve seen come into the league since backstrom. not to mention one of the best shots in the league.

    Half way in his rockie season, he was scoring like crazy but the really sick fact is that his shot % was 28!
    People say he don't shoot enuogh but he seldom throw the puck on chance. If he don't see the the opening he rather make a brilliant pass. In stark contrast to Miller...

    If I were putting forward an all-time Canucks lineup, I'd have Pettersson on my top line - with Naslund and Bertuzzi. Not only am I projecting he'll be that good, I'd also imagine he'd be beyond phenomenal with these two. He and Nazzy can make plays off each other, so you won't have a clue what they're going to do, whether they're going to pass or shoot, or what on earth are they seeing. Big Bert will be there to back them physically if things ever get rough, but he'll also be effective generating plays and finishing off.

    God level player. IMO in 2 years, he will be the 2nd best player in the world behind McDavid. He's a mix between Gretzky and Datsyuk. Vancouver's future looks insane.
