    What a great video! The only bummer about it was it was too short......

    Birch trees at 0:12 and 0:46 look unharmed for the most part. Such strong and flexible trees. I'll never understand why they're seen as "weak" by so many.

      Yes, they are very good benders, very elastic ... unless something is falling onto them ... they break, but they are strong against heavy winds!
      Look at this video, it's the same => th-cam.com/video/SH2JAd7dlT4/w-d-xo.html

    Never once in my 40 years in tornado alley have I ever heard the name "Derecho"
    All of a sudden everyone is like, "yeah just another derecho..."
    Starting to think twice about that Mandela Effect crap.

      Same. I've lived in OK for most of my life and this was the first time I've ever heard of a "derecho".

      I've only heard of it cause I happened across the wiki article a couple months ago on it. It was a fairly obscure term until the Iowa one hit.

    • @freedamerican5243
      @freedamerican5243 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s real. I heard the term back in 2012 when the East Coast had one. Wasn’t as bad as this one though

    • @leaf2180
      @leaf2180 4 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      @@freedamerican5243 yes it was. It was actually worse. It had a higher damage cost and it was deadlier. The only thing this derecho had worse than the 2012 derecho was the wind. The 2012 derecho is still considered the worst derecho on record.

    To lose, to kill a tree, in these circumstances, it need not be uprooted, nor snapped, nor lose chunks of branches. Just the constant rocking, can sever the roots underground, thus killing the tree by delayed action.

    Probably not the brightest idea to park ones vehicle under a tree.

    • @Hummingbird-yu3kt

      um...it really didn't matter. Finding on street parking in established neighborhoods without large trees with extensive canopies is beyond impossibe. Also, there was a person in my neighborhood who parked their car in front of their house...there weren't any trees in their yard or next door. The tree ACROSS THE STREET AND TWO HOUSES DOWN basically uprooted and fell on the car.

      Welp, in the heartland of USA/Iowa, we have fertile farm soil deployed to cultivate the much of the food supply everyone depends upon. The fertile soil also sustains many many large and very old trees. Some hundreds of years old. In our town, its next to impossible to not park a car under a tree whether you're on the street or in your driveway....but thanks for the tip we didn't need!
      Plus, my sisters garage is toast with a huge tree that fell on it...thankfully nothing in it was damaged.

      @@ckyung1312 I live in the Caribbean and we are covered in trees that are hundreds of years old too. I've hunkered down through more than a dozen storms that would make your "derecho" look like an afternoon shower. We have to worry about roofs crushing cars as well.
      Don't park your car under a tree. Park it in a field a mile away if you have to. Having said that...God bless, and I hope those affected have a speedy recovery.
