thank you! you have hit it, right on the button! the problem with big country music names/(rock, etc...... classical music?!) is their VIDEOS STINK!!! they've done a total dis-service to their own songs! it's obtuse! thank you!
Thanks the rear door is aluminum and I put brakes on because it helps a lot when you come down steep long hills in the mountains. As for pulling it the Jeep dose fairly well you don’t want to be in a hurry. And when I am out exploring with my Jeep and trailer I never am .
I see you sprayed it with the black kit but did you paint over it with the grey? If so what paint? I was thinking about doing concrete paint over mine to cool the black down.
The Raptor truck bed liner looks like a great idea for the coating. How many gallons did you use to get the job done, and did you roller it or spray it? Thanks for any info.
garyweglarz just a heads up the spray on liner on one side has cracked a lot but not on the other side. I am going to be wrapping the trailer with thin sheet aluminum in the near future.
Nailed it my man!!! Qustion your rear hatch door is it plywood? And how is it pulling it with your jeep, And is that why you put brakes on it? I have a 2 door jk. That's why I'm asking. And really an awesome job!!
Looks great Todd! I am thinking to build my own too. What are the sizes? Are you happy with the results? or if you will build another one what would be the revisions you would make?
Hakan Karakaya I am very happy with the results the trailer has over 10000 km on it now . It is a 5 by 9 and if I was to build one again it would be all aluminum to get the weight down .
I knew this was BC long before I saw the license plate. It looks like you're near Smithers or in the Kooteney's. My biggest issue is sourcing the door, how did you manage it? Mike in PG.
Hello Todd. I see this video is 2 years old. I am curious, how is that Raptor holding out? I want to build a trailer and I am considering painting it in Raptor. Any advice? Thanks mate.
GFOFO Goncalves Hello the Raptor liner started cracking in the first year on one side of the trailer but the other side is doing good . I think it is more to do with the plywood than the liner. I am going to be putting aluminum on the sides next year.
The walls are plywood then coated with clear penetrating epoxy and then Raptor truck bed liner. I have since put aluminum on the roof and am going to put on the sides dew to cracking at the joints. ,
This is an awesome looking trailer! 2 questions is that 4&1/2 ft tall and do you have a slight slope from the back of the roof to the front or is that an optical illusion?
Hello the Raptor liner is good on one side and not the other . The corners have opened up a tiny bit but not bad. Yes I used clear penetrating epoxy first. I have added aluminum to the roof and will be adding it to the sides next year. If I had it all to do over again I would build the whole thing out of aluminum.
@@kevinrusso6849 no I never taped the corners . But it would have been a good idea in hind sight. In the spring I will set the trailer up and do an update so everyone can see how it has held up and evolved.
Thanks for replying! I have a TJ and am planning something like this. I like the teardrop style vs. top tent. ladders in the dark don't appeal to me much!@@toddfifield7044
Cory Glenn yes that is what I was thinking if I was to build one again . The axle is a 3500 lb and it has been great so far although I did break a leaf spring this summer.
Well the truck bed liner is starting to crack but only on one side . It looks like it is the plywood that is making it crack. Every thing else is great. Pulled it down to Utah this summer putting 5000 km on and not a problem.
I will agree this is a nice small trailer but it is not actually a tear drop. Tear drop got their name due to the fact they are shaped like a year drop not a rectangle.
You've built a really nice, strong and practical camper, which looks great.
Excellent work on upgrading the original trailer, too. Subscribed.
Felix, I didn't subscribe! I love jeeps! Awesome work! Amazing
Muy buena musica y projecto felicitaciones.! saludos desde URUGUAY
Great looking camper!!
Like this design/shape!
Great build, and a very good video, for still shots, nice little camper, thanks.

Do you have measurements of this camper?
that looks sweet👌
Thanks for sharing this build!
You bet .
My design is similar in profile. In the back my frame angles upward 45 degrees to match the box. Its then capped off with a 4" square rear bumper.
Hi how tall is it in side am thinking of making 1 but don’t go how tall to do 1 thanks
I used Raptor truck bed liner. It is a spray on kit and I highly recommend it.
I see you sprayed it with the black kit but did you paint over it with the grey? If so what paint? I was thinking about doing concrete paint over mine to cool the black down.
Joey Fingers the kit was tinted so I did not need to paint it afterwards.

garyweglarz I ended up using 12 bottles on the trailer.
@@toddfifield7044 Thank Todd, I appreciate the info.

@@toddfifield7044 Thank Todd. I think my "budget build" is probably going to be done using poor man's fiberglass for the exterior coating.

Rastor hace impermeable la madera me gusto
i like your build .
Great job!
I used clear penetrating epoxy on the whole out side of the shell .
Pro trick : watch series at Flixzone. Me and my gf have been using it for watching a lot of movies during the lockdown.
@Dane Jordan Yea, I have been watching on Flixzone for months myself =)
What did this cost?
Great job
OOOh I would love to take my home made teardrop to go camp on that beautiful hill side

Did you use fiberglass tape on the corners before you Raptorlined it? It looked like you resined it but couldn't tell
Good job 👍🏽

I got the door out of the states and it was a hassle. The company I used when 0it of business and the were awfull to deal with. I am in Revelstoke.

Where did you buy the side door?
I bought it out of the States but the company ha1s gone bankrupt . Probably from shifty service and expensive prices.
Where did you get the Galley door? I’ve been looking for a nice door and yours looks nice
bigjoe357 I made the galley door my self.
Todd Fifield I cant figure out how to get the seal done, can you send pictures of the seal and frame
bigjoe357 I never put any kind of seal on the door . It is aluminum to aluminum and hardly any dust gets in.
Hi Todd Nice build, but i have a question about the outside walls. Did you paint them? if yes which kind of paint did you used?
The walls are plywood then coated with clear penetrating epoxy and then Raptor truck bed liner. I have since put aluminum on the roof and am going to put on the sides dew to cracking at the joints. ,
How did you prep the plywood prior to spraying the Raptor liner on it?
Joey Morris I used penetrating epoxy on the plywood.
@@toddfifield7044 thanks

Sorry one other question. How far down or at what angle did you cut off the top of the front? Thank you
Hi Todd , it’s been a few years since your build , how has the Raptor paint preformed? Did you epoxy your ply before coating ?
Hello the Raptor liner is good on one side and not the other . The corners have opened up a tiny bit but not bad. Yes I used clear penetrating epoxy first. Nice build, mind sharing with us where you found that aluminum hatch for the back?
Burly Teacher I had it custome made for me .
Nice job, does your TJ struggle to pull it?? How much does it weight?
Cory Glenn Thanks. The trailer weighs about 1800 lb load and yes it is a bit slow in the mountains but I am never in a hurry when I am pulling it.
Thanks for replying! I have a TJ and am planning something like this. I like the teardrop style vs. top tent. ladders in the dark don't appeal to me much!@@toddfifield7044
Cory Glenn if I had it to do over I would have built it out of all aluminum.
Todd Fifield copy that, I’m thinking aluminum frame and one of those composite gel coated insulation boards. How have the axles performed?
Cory Glenn yes that is what I was thinking if I was to build one again . The axle is a 3500 lb and it has been great so far although I did break a leaf spring this summer.
THIS IS AWESUUUUUUM!
Jeremy A thanks I love it so far. Now just need to drag it up to your neck of the woods.
What product did you use to skin it with? Thanks, Gino
A year later how is it holding up really looking into building one of my own

A square trailer is not a teardrop
Some people aren’t into crying in your beer music. Huge thumbs down 👎
