I believe we can turn this song into a baroque music
In this case we've arranged the mandolin to sound more like a balalaika, but the Neapolitan mandolin was a baroque instrument so I appreciate your point. Thanks for listening and commenting!

I tend to play non-standard shapes to get the sound I want, which makes it a little difficult to explain in a TH-cam comment. The general chord progression is:
Verse Gm-G7-Cm, Cm-Gm-A-D
Chorus Gm-Cm-F-Bb, Cm-Gm-D-Gm

What instrument is the little string instrument….???
Hi Marco, it's a mandolin. It has four double strings and it's tuned the same as a violin, where the two treble (E) strings are an octave above the guitar. The high-pitched sound with its characteristic ring is popular in folk and bluegrass music, but in this originally Russian tune we've tried to get it to sound like a balalaika. Hi, it was a global hit for Mary Hopkin in 1968, though the melody was taken from a Russian folk tune from the 1920s. Simon and Garfunkel never recorded or performed this song, but perhaps our added harmony in the chorus could have suggested otherwise. Thanks for listening and commenting!
