Wow, we'll take that thank you very much! This one always goes down well with our live audiences, so it's nice to hear we managed to capture the vibe on video as well.
Great to hear from you Amani, we're delighted that you rate our version so highly! Thank you for taking the time to let us know, it means a lot to us ❤️
@@TheTickets Yes, I am a fan of instrumental music. Here in Brazil we have had great soloists on the cavaquinho (Waldir Azevedo was a master of this instrument, author of the song called "Delicado") and mandolin. I also have a large collection of instrumental guitar groups from all over the world. You guys are great!
How lovely to hear that Johnatan, it really inspires us to know that our performance of this great tune is valued and appreciated. Thank you so much for listening and commenting!
Well, did you know that this song had been sung by dozens of singers in dozens of languages of the world?! - French, German, Italian, Polish, Spanish, Chinese, Korean, RUSSIAN…? -And, what’s the most interesting , is - that the song originally is RUSSIAN?!… For your curiosity - please, check out all the versions of this incredible Song, if you can find the all?! …And maybe do some more first time reactions to this song, and choose your favourite??… (THIS song - really deserves it, I think, do you?…) Also… did you know that there is a very DARK, African episode, connected to this song?!!… I’m telling you - this episode almost killed the beauty and innocence of this beautiful song!!…
Hi Karl, thank you so much for your extensive response. Yes, we are very much aware of this song's history and global success, as also mentioned in our description below the video. We also always refer to this history when we're performing it live. We hope you enjoyed our version of it!
Thanks, so glad you enjoyed it! I tend to play non-standard shapes to get the sound I want, which makes it a little difficult to explain in a TH-cam comment. The general chord progression is: Verse Gm-G7-Cm, Cm-Gm-A-D Chorus Gm-Cm-F-Bb, Cm-Gm-D-Gm If you would like more details on exact finger positions etc , feel free to send me a mail to info@thetickets.nl so I can reply with images or diagrams. Thanks again for listening and commenting - Nigel
@@TheTickets Thanks so much for the response! We ended up going in a different key but I definitely got inspiration from your style. I will share the video of our version after we record it if you are interested!
In this case we've arranged the mandolin to sound more like a balalaika, but the Neapolitan mandolin was a baroque instrument so I appreciate your point. Thanks for listening and commenting!
Hi Marco, it's a mandolin. It has four double strings and it's tuned the same as a violin, where the two treble (E) strings are an octave above the guitar. The high-pitched sound with its characteristic ring is popular in folk and bluegrass music, but in this originally Russian tune we've tried to get it to sound like a balalaika. Thanks for listening and asking, we love to hear from our global audience!
Hi, it was a global hit for Mary Hopkin in 1968, though the melody was taken from a Russian folk tune from the 1920s. Simon and Garfunkel never recorded or performed this song, but perhaps our added harmony in the chorus could have suggested otherwise. Thanks for listening and commenting!
You guys did a good job at singing and playing but you reversed the last two verses. Putting the real last verse last is nice because it lets the song end on happier note.
Thanks for listening and commenting! We did indeed make that swap because we felt that the slow down at the end was a better fit with the lyrics of the previous verse, though we do take your very observant point that ending it in the way you suggest would give it a happier vibe.
@@TheTickets I can see what you mean and thanks for responding, it's always a very nice treat to actually get to chat with the musician. That line, "In the glass I saw a strange reflection. Was that lonely fellow really me?" what a haunting line to anyone who's getting a little long of tooth and claw. It's a powerful song. Cheers.
Interesting observation - it would certainly be in keeping with a lot of sixties recordings that were printed to vinyl at an increased tape speed. Thanks for listening and commenting!
This has to be one of best interpretations of this song that I have heard. Thank you guys for such a lovely arrangement and execution.
