I read her story and something doesn't add up. As I understand it, Talene is thousands of years younger than Maetria. If in the Age of Maetria, only one other of her kind survived, then how had Talene, hundreds of years later, survived another purge of her race at the hands of Framton? Did this magic stone create a new generation of phoenixes?
Maybe she wasn't considered part of her race after she became a hypogene? Her story does say she waited for a time of opportunity to strike, who knows how long she's been like this...
Talene was considered the last “pure” one. Maetra seems to have gone into hiding after having realized that her kind were being destroyed for no reason. I love the fallen Angel trope. She sounds like Lucifer but also like the divine spark, Sophia. I wish they’d have tied Maetra in with Talene’s back story. Like maybe Maetra was the guiding wing to Talene’s salvation.
They should have add her wilder version as a wilder hero a few months ago, and then afterwards they launch maetria as a big plot twist. Would be way better! And would not ruin the "awaken" vibe
I don't think she is truly evil. Since she does it out of love for her race. They were unjustly condemned to death with their heroic acts. She simply wants them to live. Also chills? She has fire based ability. You are supposed to feel hot xD

Maybe Maetra is a combo of Lucretia and Talene. It’s weird how so many female characters are turned for the sake of love lost, love spurned or love of their own kind. (Talene, Maetra, Lucretia, Desira, Theowyn, Shemira, Vyloris, even Belinda. )

But I am not sure if these rumors are correct and whether we will be getting AFK Arens 2 at all

Especially if it was at the time when she has been only known as a researcher and our dear merchant supplied her with necessites. As we can also see, she's quite a keeper, so Peggy would be hard pressed to try and take Rowan back.
Honestly now that this story beat has concluded, I'm gonna say AFK fumbled the narrative. Discrepancies aside, Maetria was not entirely in the wrong. Resorting to wanting genocide to revive her race was indeed a Bad Thing and I don't think anyone will disagree with that, but it was a really weak character motivation that we've seen in antagonists countless times already. The contrast between Talene and Maetria's ideals was really good and had a lot of potential for an interesting exploration, but when it counted Lilith shied away from it completely and quickly put Maetria down with little fanfare, after all the weeks of buildup for their confrontation. Maetria was not in the wrong for being upset that she existed solely to fix the mistakes of the gods, that the Finches were created essentially to be sacrificed when time called for it, and it's really disappointing this was brushed aside. She honestly deserved better treatment from the narrative, she and Talene both. Talene didn't really have her own agency and was mostly there to be "the good guy who puts down the bad guy." None of this is saying Maetria should have had a redemption arc because that's unnecessary and I wouldn't want that for her but just... iunno, there was room for a more interesting exploration of the confrontation between Talene and Maetria besides "good guy bad guy" and I'm bummed about how weakly it was handled, the buildup meant nothing for how quickly it was all over. And we're really not going to talk about the ethics of having a race that literally exists just to be sacrificed? That's not noble, that's honestly.. just really messed up.
