I'm so thankful I've stubbled upon your videos. I appreciate the way you explain the process in which things are potentially happening and how to manage in a way that seems less overwhelming. I was diagnosed a year ago and have went up in physical size to an unrecognizable me. My body, mind, and spirit feel like a hostage in my own self. I haven't started any medications and tried to manage it with diet and exercise. Finding that not all exercises are options for me. I do have an appointment next week and want to prepare myself with questions'. Your videos are making me feel like I'll be able to communicate my needs, concerns and actually have an intelligent conversation about this. lol. When my doctor called to tell me I had hashimotos in the first place my response was, "so, are you saying I should buy a Kamono?" lol. I'm off to watch your; "cleanse your gut" video. Because, at the moment, tie a string on me because my bloated fat-a is floating away.
Synthroid did not work for me. Even with T3 added (Cytomel). Now I take Armour NDT. So much better....for me. I do not have a thyroid gland. Thank you for educating me.
Love the video! I take compounded T4, because I'm extremely sensitive to all additives, including gelatin and any animal products. I'm also a vegan. Too bad insurance doesn't pay for my medication, but I'm doing great on it!
@@jrowlove7328 what I saw as the ingredients of the 50 mg are: Nonmedicinal ingredients: acacia, confectioner's sugar, lactose, magnesium stearate, povidone, and talc. It just doesn't have colorings. I would definitely react to those additives!

Hi Patricia, if your thyroid is removed you want to focus on both improving thyroid conversion and addressing weight directly. You'd want to look at these supplements but I would also take a look at my weight loss guide which has a lot more information as well: 2 scoops of Functional Fuel ENERGIZE daily during weight loss period 1-2 capsules of Leptin Resistance Rx daily during weight loss period (continue for 2 months once desired weight is achieved) 1 packet of Gut Bomb 350 billion daily (1-2 rounds as necessary) 1-2 soft gels of Omega Soothe SR daily (for duration of weight loss)
Dr. Westin Childs where do I go to look at these supplements? I have struggled with weight after several life stressors hit at once 5 years post full thyroid ectomy.
My thyroid numbers are good, FT3, RT3, FT4. I’m just struggling with weight loss, I take the thyroid conversion supplement. I’m on 75 levothyroxine and 15 of Liothyronine. My only struggle is weight loss. Working on diet, exercise, and gut health but I may need to look into other supplements. The struggle is real. However my leptin and insulin levels were high so I’ve been doing intermittent fasting like 2-3x per week. Will need to retest again in a few months. My doc wouldn’t consider any medications to assist with weight loss. So I’m just on metformin for now.
By the way, I like both formats, but unless you absolutely need the visuals and illustrations, I prefer just you in front of the camera because it's easier to pay attention and follow. With the visuals, I find my eyes reading what you have on the screen instead of paying attention to what you're saying. You mentioned your products. I would like to take your conversion booster, but it contains vitamin A and I am not supposed to take supplemental vitamin A because I am an ex-smoker. I'm sure you are familiar with the big study that was done where there was a significant increase in lung cancer in smokers and ex-smokers taking vitamin A/beta-carotene. This is the reason AREDS-2 formula came out. My eye doctor told me to never take supplemental vitamin A.
I'm not suggesting that you take vitamin A but I remain unconvinced by those studies which link the two. If that were true then they would also recommend that you avoid certain fruits/veggies which are rich in vitamin A but you don't see that recommendation at all (for obvious reasons).
@@drwestinchilds The findings of the study only warned against SUPPLEMENTAL vitamin A, and did not include food sources of any kind. The findings were significant enough that my eye doctor specifically told me to never take vitamin A. In addition, the correlation between lung cancer and vitamin A/beta-carotene was so high in smokers and ex-smokers that Alcon came out with their I-Caps version without vitamin A, and Bausch & Lomb came out with their well know AREDS-2 formula without vitamin A....specifically for smokers, or those with a history of smoking. Scary stuff....if you're a smoker. I don't think most people (or companies that include vitamin A in their products) are aware of this well known study. The correlation was so clear in the study that they ended it early because it was clear that an inordinate number of smokers taking vitamin A were developing lung cancer.
@@pocopico7409 I know that the study said it was only from supplemental sources but I'm asking the question why does the source matter? The results seem overly punitive to supplements over dietary sources. I'm saying that the logic is inconsistent. There are many problems with the results of the study and the conclusions drawn. I'll have to write about them at some point in the future.
Had thyroid removed because of cancer, 26 years ago and put on Synthroid brand- I have done fairly well, l and have been on higher and sometimes too high doses-- Now 26 years down the road at age 57 have Osteoporosis- very Upset about this- my Endocrinologist threw Pharmaceuticals at me- Which I am angry that this happened, because I feel it was directly attributed to high dose.- I have wanted to switch to NDT because I have felt like it's not me (invasion of body snatchers) but doctors attitude is you're Alive , don't fix what isn't' broke--Anyway, love your content but am wondering if switching or staying on any thyroid replacement will be more detrimental to my bones?.
I took synthetic thyroid medication for 20 years and during that time I went from 120 pounds to 201 pounds. I moved and asked my new Dr if I could try armor thyroid and he said yes. I lost 20 pounds the first month and felt 10 years younger. I have leveled off on weight loss but when I cut out sugar, intermittent fasting and lowered carbs intake I can lose weight more easily. I'm taking NP thyroid presently but still feel much better and odd thing to add, I recently had my gallbladder removed and energy levels have increased. I know there is a connection between the thyroid, pancreas and gallbladder so could a sluggish gallbladder have an effect on the thyroid conversion?
I do NOT have a thyroid due to severe Graves disease and hyperthyroidism. I am 1 year post op. My TSH is 0.015 which my endocrinologist says is non existent? I have been following you since surgery. That helps me to talk to my Dr with a little knowledge. I am on 88 mcg levothyroxine and 15 mcg Liothyronine. I go back tomorrow. My question is since I have these problems should I take the flu vaccine? I know an autoimmune disease is bad. The TSI test says I still have graves. And please keep the videos coming! You have helped me so much and I'm still scared. I take Vitamin D3 4,000 IU daily. Thanks for any advice you can give me.
What other choice do I have...? I can't move and my throat hurts can't move gaining weight etc. What do you think of name brand versus generic of Synthroid. I take the name brand.

I’m on 60 mg Armour my doctor says she’s heard many patients on Armour getting heart attacks. Have you heard this? Is it dose dependent I’m 65 she’s afraid to raise my dose my TSH is 2.26 I think it should be lower
Any correlation between Armour and cardiac events would be dose-dependent. Even so, it's really only theoretically possible to get a heart attack as opposed to something like ventricular hypertrophy.
I've been on levothyroxine for about 10-12 years. It seems constant that I vacillate between 125-150. Is this a sign that levothyroxine isn't working for me? I still need my reverse T3 to get more info, then I'll be able to send you my numbers
I've been on Synthroid for 43 years and my Dr. and I recently decided to give combination Synthroid and Liothyronine a try. I was taking 112 mcg of Synthroid originally, so he lowered it to 75 mcg and put me on 5 mcg of Liothyronine (T3). He TOLD me this would make me hypothyroid, but he wanted to take it in small stages (which I understand). I recently had my blood work after the change, and sure enough, my TSH is 17 something, which he says indicates I need more Synthroid. So he wants to raise me back up to 100 mcg and just keep me on the same 5 mcg of Liothyronine (which is a baby dose). Are baby doses even worth messing with or should I just go back to taking T4 only? I don't feel good about just raising the Synthroid back up without also trying to take more T3. What was the point of trying T3 if I'm not going to give it a good chance to work? My free T4 was much too low and my free T3 was in the "normal" range....although not the "optimal range" according to your video. I would like to try taking 7.5 mcg of T3 and maybe going to 88 mcg of Synthroid.....or maybe just leaving the Synthroid at 75 mcg and see what that does. I'm concerned, though, because I don't want to take too much T3 to the point of my heart racing, etc. It's hard to know what to do and I feel like my doctor is guessing just like I am. It's bad when something as important as thyroid medication is essentially left up to trial and error because there are no hard and fast rules when it comes to medication and bloodwork.
What you are experiencing is your doctor's inexperience in using T3. Some people feel well on small doses but you really haven't given it a chance if your TSH jumps up that high and you simply go back on T4.
@@drwestinchilds What should I encourage my doctor to do....have me take more T3 or take more of both T3 and T4? I'm sure he's paranoid about me taking more T3 because of the possible side effects. Are negative side effects of T3 ever just temporary and will go away as my body adjusts to the T3? I'm also on Metoprolol, so my pulse is controlled somewhat by it. I'm on the beta blocker not only for blood pressure, but also because my heart has always beat a little too fast and it makes me feel better to slow it down.
My old dr went of the TSH and kept me at .75 mcg, which left me feeling fatigued all the time. My new dr tested my T3, RT3, T4, ect. She switched me to 60mg of amour and I’m feeling better in only one week! Im still trying understand T3 and T4. I think my RT3 was high. And my T4 wasnt being converted to T3? Hopefully my energy will continue to increase. Is it possible in one week to feel a difference? My diet is pretty spot on and my supplements are good.
