    Oh,this band is AMAZING!!! Every album is like a deep dive into deadly melancholy.

    Jonas voice is MAGICK. i believe they throw this song first like to trick people... We all suspected something really heavy and then this came out.. I was shocked. But also increase my bond with the band. No matter how they do it, still is dark, melancholic and strong.

    Vocals are perfect as expected but also those synth arps in the chorus are spellbinding. Cannot wait for City Burials!!! Great review. But also they do have a few of these triphoppy tracks such as unfurl, sold heart, code against the code, Inheritance, racing heart and Vakaren.

    Since hearing this song for the first time yesterday I haven’t been able to stop listening to it. I have been looking at all the reaction videos I can find: your reaction definitely was the best. Instantly subscribed:) As for the song itself: absolute gold! 😃

    Excellent analogy with the reference to Dead End Kings and the acoustic version. I also have both albums and completely agree with your analysis. Jonas' articulation and phrasing are always captivating. My favourite part of this song is the fact that Jonas opened up his voice more, he often sounds intentionally restrained.....but not here.

    Love this song and love how experimental they are.
    Check out the song "Unfurl" from them! An amazing song in the same vein as this song!
    Thanks for your reactions guys!!

      Skully G4L haven’t really listened to these guys, but really love this sound. Love the Atmosphere with the electronics and background singing. Definitely creates a mood.
      Any recommendations by them (I’m open to any style or differences in their sound!).

    • @Blk_Skully
      @Blk_Skully 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ckokomo808 Do you want song recommendations or albums? lol
      Definitely listen to the song "Unfurl" next... it's also mostly electronic and has a much more somber feeling to it. Also give the songs "Old Heart Falls" and "Chrome" a listen. Old Heart Falls is a beautiful melding of all their styles together, and Chrome is an older song, but it showcases a darker, almost gothic style to their sound.
      If you want an album from them to listen to, that's alittle harder because all their albums are masterful! lol
      But most seem to start with (The Great Cold Distance). A fantastic album

    Yeah the vocals, this is also one of my main reason I like them. I swear his voice is healing.
    They have done some electronics before, there is one...or two? in the aniversary edition of Great Cold distance, and of course there is Vakaren, which you HAVE to do a reaction to.

    Katatonia's catalog is ultra diverse and amazing. Jonas voice paired with heavy complex rythms and guitar work is nuts! It works. Mesmerizing. As far as the electronic vibe, I suspect they pulled some vibes from Frank Default - ala Dead End Kings

    They claim to come back to their heavy metal roots with this album, so consider this is a slow intro kind of song. The album should be pretty dark since the last one had a different and less sad atmosphere.

  • @peterwyatt5702
    @peterwyatt5702 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I was pleasantly surprised with this song the first time I had heard it.
    And... what with some people, not including you guys, being disappointed in this song because it doesn't have any Heavy Metal instruments in it, I believe there is nothing that kills off more music, than when an artist stagnates. As an author myself, I know that the idea of "stagnation" is typically a result of "lacking inspiration", and everything that becomes produced is soon perceived by the creator's fans like it is "more of the same".
    It is good of Katatonia to jump on a different style, before the fans begin to complain that they aren't doing anything new. "Not doing anything new" has become a common complaint for certain bands, and soon, the band only has its records bought because it has its name written on the front of the record. It's like a fast-food joint that never changes its recipe for its burgers or some such, because the restaurant knows that people will just keep coming back for the same thing. What is lacking in that example, is the authenticity.

    I listen to a lot of things like Behemoth, Archspire, Allegaeon etc..., but the vocals in Katatonia are the reason why this band is my favorite by far !
    I was surprised at 1rst listen too, but i now have listened to it something like 200 times. Just so brilliant.

    I wonder I haven’t discovered any Anathema’s song yet.They definitely deserve your attention. Together with Paradise Lost and My dying bride they’re considered as unholy trinity of doom. Nowadays their sound is similar to Katatonia, but more proggy. Please, start with live version of “Untouchable” or “Flying” in Plovdiv. I bet, you won’t regret!;)

    I like the atmosphere of the song, it is a great track. I agree Jonas is a great singer and I'm not sure if you know but early on he threw out his voice so he couldnt do the harsh vocals so they got mikael from opeth to do the brave murder day album and the next ep after that.

If it's not possible, at least can you recommend me some of your fav current albums/bands if you want? I'm more into slow doom,funeral deperssive sounds and a litle bit of black metal

    Katatonia: Brave Murder Day. It’s not the first, it’s not their best, but it is unavoidable for a true Katatonia fan. Plus, it’s from the time when Akerfeldt from Opeth was their main vocalist and Renske was more dedicated to drums. Funny how things change.

    • @noname-eq1yc
      @noname-eq1yc 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      He was not a main vocalist that time just a guest artist for that album because of Jonas' throat problem.

    • @JoelGGomes
      @JoelGGomes 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@noname-eq1yc I wasn't aware that he had any throat problem at that time. In any case, even if he was just a guest, he was the main vocalist on that record and, in that sense, he was an active member. (I seriously doubt that he didn't have any input on their songs.)
