I have a hard time comparing Aurora to Angelina Jordan. The only real similarity is their country of origin. Aurora is a philosopher/poet/writer/composer/producer/dancer/performer, while Angelina has a voice, and does mostly covers. Aurora has a very important message to tell the world, and her music can heal a broken soul. She speaks a lot about the environment, and what it means to truly be a human being at the most existential level. She stands behind the things she cares about and has amazing integrity as a person, and artist. She's also a natural comedian. 😂 Subscribing for more Aurora reactions!

I so agree with you! Seems like it’s difficult to look behind the female singer box. Doesn’t understand why put AJ together with Aurora?

    • @user-gv4cx7vz8t
      @user-gv4cx7vz8t 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

@@heidifarstadkvalheim4952 Because "Angelina has a voice" may be the understatement of the century. But on other issues, Angelina has raised millions for directly helping children, rather than supporting more abstractly defined causes. She has a large and growing body of original work, and the talent to compete almost unfairly in multiple genres. I love Aurora as well, and see no reason to compare them by minimising either.

    • @guadalupejazminvilaguillen4786
      @guadalupejazminvilaguillen4786 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

@@user-gv4cx7vz8t They are not minimizing, they really think that, and I say this because I think that. I don't like Angelina, I don't hate her either, but all I get from her is a voice and no feeling, some people just don't feel it. I felt a bit annoyed about the reactor constantly talking about AJ, so I just didn't finish the video nor did I subscribe.
Regarding money for children and so on, everyone does that. Well not everyone but most famous people raise money and donate, it is the easy thing to do, where you send the thing and you don't have to compromise your commodities. Why do you think most people doesn't do what Aurora does? Cause people who for whatever reason get money, want to be comfortable. And no, being barefoot is not "being so nice to that kid on the street", I am barefoot all day and I am lazy b*.
So yea, all good with AJ, but this is an Aurora reaction and I think that should be respected.
Just like when it is an AJ reactions, Aurora shouldn't appear.

Best regards from Norway 🇳🇴

  • @Einyen
    @Einyen 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

She was actually very nervous here in her own way. This was her biggest performance so far with ~8000 in the huge arena and with TV cameras recording, and she "escapes" the scary situation by being complete immersed in the song, you can see her almost like waking up at the end.
She never intended to be a singer originally, and she didn't really enjoy performing for the first 2 years during 2014 and 2015. Later during 2016 she learned to enjoy it, and she had ~210 performances that year.
Here is a quote from Aurora about it, from a February 2019 interview:
I think it took me about 2 years to enjoy being on stage, the first 2 years of doing quite big festivals and a lot of touring, I didn't even like it, cause it is not a natural thing for me to... I dunno, the attention thing is very strange.
But it has evolved a lot, I don't think I opened my eyes one time the first year, and I usually stood in one place, and I moved my hands a lot quite frantically, because I have to much energy when I sing, and I can feel like, you know... It comes from like a different place, like from the pace of music, if it's... you know, this divine place.
I get like too much energy for my tiny human shape. I didn't really know what to do with it, so it kind of made me almost shake.
But now I know where to put it: Out... you know to the people in the crowd, and my eyes are open and my hands are open, and it feels very good, so it has evolved a lot.

Aurora is different, in every way. All her songs are different and each performance is different. As she sings in the moment her live versions are generally the best. There are two other performances from this concert but you should not miss her concert from the Nidarosdomen.
She has recently released her fourth album, "Whatever happened to the Heart". Again, very different from her previous.

There's lots and lots of Aurora to watch/listen to, and it's worth a deep immersion from the early years to now. But she also just released her 4th album a month and a half ago, so you might want to watch and listen to her contemporary songs. The album itself (What Happened to the Heart?) is very contemporary in its themes. It's a real banger of 16 songs. Cheers!

Wow, you're one of the very few who sees it all the first time. The voice, the lyrics, the melody, the artistry, the gestures, the passion, the "magic", all of it. There aren't that many who has all of that, while making it seem like it just comes naturally 😄 and not everyone can spot it immediately either, so well done 😄
I think you're going to enjoy this journey very much 😄 Do Murder Song from this same venue next please. It's a natural second step.

Glad you finally follow my advice! You won't regret it. Some context on this song: as far as I understand, she wrote it after the loss of a friend of her family, I think her godfather, when she was 11. So you're right about the feeling of loss. Aurora has a special relation to death because she experienced death and loss very early: a class friend when she was 15, she wrote Why did You Have to Go. And a close friend in th Utøya massacre, she wrote Little Boy in the Grass (prefer the Mahogani session version). Both heartbreaking songs.
As you noticed, she's a complete artist: self-taught pianist at 6, starts writing lyrics at 9, all for herself, her parents discovered her talent only when she was 14. When she was discovered by an artist agent, she first wanted to refuse because, as an introvert, she didn't want to become an artist; her mother convinced her that people might need her music. There is a documentary, Once Aurora, where you can see how much she struggled at the beginning with her public life.
It's a common statement for a singer to say that one uses his voice as an instrument; Aurora can use it as a whole orchestra. I would recommand for that a less known song she made, the Secret Garden, for the film of the same name. Or her own version of Into the Unknown. She's very versatile in style.
See her perfom acoustic, with a single guitar, for Murder Song at the Nobel Peace Price concert, or for It Happened Quiet, with her back singer Silja Sol.
See her full of energy with her small rock band, for All is Soft Inside, live at KEXP, then go metal on Under the Water, live at Honda Stage.
See her with a full classic orchestra in Nidarosdomen cathedral, for Through the Eyes of a Child or Lucky. Or for you, as a jazz musician, her cover of Nature Boy.
See her leading a march song in a forest with a surprise choir for The Seed, live at Haik concert. Or for a spiritual experience with Infections of a Different Kind, at the same place.
She's better live, but her music videos are worth trying, too.
She's an immense author, but she's great at covers.
And when you think you saw it all, start discovering her new album.

She is amazing, I recommend Murder Song (5,4,3,2,1) at this same concert. That is the acoustic version of Murder Song, quite different from the original album version.
I suggest listening to the album version afterwards either privately, or in the same reaction video if you feel like it, that would be great. Search for Aurora murder song studio version, it's on her main channel with 1.8M views, or listen on streaming services.

Cool! 😊Amazing performance, considering she was terrified here. Took her a long time to enjoy being on stage, but she's quite comfortable now, although she did recently talk about her nerves during her recent performance at Glastonbury. Very much an introvert. OK, someone has to say this. Yes, we can keep listening to her old perfomances like 54321 or through the eyes of a child. They're gorgeous and brilliant, no one denies that, least of all me.
But we'll be missing out on a lot! In my opinion the mature Aurora is way more interesting - more profound, more complex, more multi-layered, ultimately much more rewarding.
Not to mention her voice, which has developed enormously. She now commands a tonal and dynamic range way beyond those early days.
The holy trinity of _current_ Aurora videos are the two Live at VEVOs (Soul with no king and Some type of skin), along with the Starvation video (original or choreography edit). And then there's the album, which is a whole journey in itself. These are tomorrow's classic Aurora performances! Point being - she hasn't stagnated. She's going somewhere.

Thank you so so much for reacting to Aurora. I've been waiting patiently for this day:)) And finally we're here. I'm so exited. Yeah, you loved this performance as we who know Aurora was expecting. But there is so much more. This was just a tiny glimpse of who she is. I am convinced she will impress you more and more the further down the rabbit whole you go. There is so much to her, like you described yourself. And it would take me a day just to describe her. You will absolutely fall in love with her as an artist and as a human being. She's so genuine and so intelligent. She cares for nature and humanity. She is a musical genius and her voice abilities are amazing. She collect sounds and dead moths. I genuinely love that you are getting the chance to discover her and be amazed by her for the first time. She is beyond interesting in every way possible. Not just musically, but also her personality. She is absolutely hilarious. She is so pure, so honest, so unusual and so funny and entertaining. Yet she writes lyrics about everything important. She writes songs and she keeps them, and when the world needs them, she releases them. She has a plan for every album. She has already desided how many she will make. They all have an important message to the world. And she is collecting songs for an album to be released when she's no longer here. When she performs she becomes the song. And she is better live because of her personality and performance abilities. I see in the comments that you've got some suggestions what to listen to next, and these are perfect suggestions. I also would like to add her cover of " Life on mars " by David Bowie at the Howard Stern show.( 2016) That is just an experience that will hypnotize you...Good luck with discovering an amazing, impactful girl!! About her vocal maturity, you should hear her nowadays (she’s now 28 years old)

The female backup vocalist is Selma Stang
Aurora writes and produces her own music (with some help)

Aurora is the complete package, sublime vocalist, brilliant song writer, mesmerising performer, deep, creative thinker, a fantastic dancer and the possessor of an amazing, quirky personality. Just an endlessly fascinating individual. On the Aurora journey, you must watch the masterpiece Nidarosdomen (Trondheim Cathedral) concert from 2017, the pure musical magic of the HAIK documentary/concert from 2019 (filmed in the forest where Aurora played in her childhood), the more intimate performances (to see her banter with her audience), those at major festivals and finally her Tik Tok posts from her apartment and some of her interviews, to see her brilliant personality. Here is an example from a concert in Amsterdam in 2018, featuring Aurora sharing some of her thoughts with the audience, then producing an off the cuff acapella rendition of Nat King Cole's "Nature Boy" after a request from the audience (th-cam.com/video/1-LtCbPUoTM/w-d-xo.html ). I hope that you can find the time to watch and enjoy it. PS Many female singers have performed barefoot, going back to the 1960s with the likes of Sandie Shaw and Joan Baez.

I didn't realize you'd never listened to Aurora before. I've watched some of your Angelina Jordan reactions, because I only discovered her, or rather first listened to her more recently, and I like seeing people's reactions to such immense vocal talent. Aurora is very different, if she also comes from Norway, and another similarity, is they both give amazing live performances, in very different ways. Aurora mainly sings her own material, but she has also done some amazing covers. All I'd say, is you have to listen to far more of Aurora, to really appreciate her talent, and what her style is. Look for live performances, but not huge stage concerts, to get the best impression of Aurora. One of her most recent, is one of her best performances, A Soul Without a King, live Vevo performance, but many of Aurora's earlier live performances are stellar. As others have said, the Nidarosdomen Cathedral concert from some time back, is a great mixture of what Aurora can do, which is immense.

A-Aron, everyone, I'm back to re-recommend "Exist for Love." 22 million views on YT, probably in her top 10, and devastatingly beautiful. When I hold out, I still get major chills by the last chorus. Also a stunning video visually!

If you're interested in Angelina Jordan, sooner or later Aurora will come up and vice versa. There are some similarities but also differences that make it easy to enjoy both outstanding voices side by side without the usual "who's better" competition.
Aurora is ten years older, so she was able to perform at the Nobel Peace Prize when it was still an evening-long concert and the committee could still afford a large concert hall and lots of musicians/sound guys.
While Angelina is comfortable in the lower range, Aurora is a high soprano, so they complement each other. I can't say that Aurora's singing reminds me of Grace, it's an ethereal sound (which is probably why you mentioned angels) that sounds more like Enya.
As for the barefoot thing, it's different - Aurora is kind a "child of nature", almost like a forest fairy and feels comfortable with direct contact with the earth.
As for the stage presence - Aurora started playing the piano at the age of six and sang and wrote/composed "just for herself" but first pursued a career as a dancer, which is why she can act much more organically on stage than Angelina. Fortunately, she was "discovered" by chance as a singer at the age of 16 and changed her mind to singing - anything else would have been a huge loss for all of us.
Aurora has won the Norwegian Grammy (Spellemansprisen) four times so far, but as far as I know she has never taken part in a TV singing competition.
And you heard right, she almost always sings with a permanent backup singer (hence this kind of "echo") and often with a choir. Since her main genre is electropop, electronic "musical instruments" are not uncommon for her.
"Runaway" is Aurora's most successful single in her native Norway, charting at number 14. Although the song did not enter the US Billboard Hot 100, it peaked at number one on the US Bubbling Under Hot 100 chart for two weeks.
This NPP concert video on YT has 32 million views and her official music video has more than 650 million views on YT.
If you want to check out other songs - the concert at Nidaros Cathedral (Nidarosdomen) 2017 is great, I would recommend "Through the eyes of a child" and "Lucky".

She's not young there but her power and commitment to the music surely benefit from her years experience and dedication. Reminds me very much of Striesand. Gotta get me some of that Norwegian water.

I had the chance to see her live like a few weeks ago and it was an out of this worldish experience and I'm 72, musician (piano training since age 4) basically a Classical and R&R person and I ran into her back in 2016 there hasn't been a day to this day that she's not in my dayly soundtrack and I can't move without music some condition I have I guess ha ha
Love live gigs and I think I've almost seen all the best (I'm so picky) and she's been and she is the Best of the best and I've seen PJ and the Stones, and LZ and a bunch of others including Classical and Jazz.......but Aurora has the Spiritual thing about her and I believe she is a Healer Amen

Great reaction. :) I'm for the first time on your channel. Is it possible for you to react to recommendation from comment that probably no one else would recommend? I really want to show you amazing japanese female singer, songwriter, composer and producer Kokia and her song "Gematria" live from Layers ~Lights and Shadows~ concert 2016. Gematria is the way of writing words by using numbers, for example in english alphabet A is 1, B is 2 etc. This song is inspired on buddhist mantras and lyrics are in not existing language, more correctly it's mix of few languages like japanese, english, french and italian, she also used gematria there, and created this for only this one song, because like she said, emotions are the same in all languages. This song is like a journey, you really can feel different emotions, it's amazing. Kokia is the best female singer I've ever heard, technically she's insane and has such beautiful voice, also is very emotional. I hope you will react to her, I think you would like her. :) Please, don't be against only because she's japanese, don't know why but many people think anything japanese is bad, but in reality japanese musicians are very talented. So if you can, please react to "Gematria". ;) Btw, Kokia also showing some things with her hands while singing and is often, wlmost always barefoot on stage. Kokia also usingvmany back vocals in her music, all recorded by her, you will hear it in this song. Have a great day!

Subscribed. To see how far she has come in those nine years, try "A soul with no king" live at VEVO, released only a month ago. It has everything you saw and heard here, only taken up several notches ( th-cam.com/video/s95nd960XsY/w-d-xo.html ) But it's almost impossible to recommend anything. There's so much and it's all very different. Just pick a corner and work your way in. She does have a huge and very dedicated fan base around the world by now, but still, we all wonder why she isn't even better known. The best explanation I can come up with, is that she really isn't for ordinary "consumption". She requires a bit of investment, but the payoff is huge.

Hi Aron 👋 my Angelina Angel 😇! The best 2 Songs for me from Aurora are "RUNNING WITH THE WOLFES" AND "TROUGH THE EYES OF A CHILD" For me personally, Aurora sings too much like an elf 🧝‍♀️ 🧚‍♀️! Too high and shrill at times! That's not my "music style", which is why I don't like Aurora's singing style 😲 so much 🤷‍♂️! Although she sings brilliantly 😲 and her lyrics are very realistic and related to our time!! That's why I'm not an Aurora fan, but purely a fan of Angel 😇 of my jazz 🎺🎷Queen, my absolute number 1 favorite singer 😲👸🎙Angelina! I have been a jazz 😲 🎺 and gospel 😲 pop singer😲 for 50 years!! I personally only like Aurora's 2 songs! I saw that you reacted to Aurora!! and wanted to see your reaction!
