We went to Nobu in Oahu, Hawaii. Ate there at least 3 times during our visit, it's not expensive at any other Japanese restaurant, but it was delicious. On our last night, there was 4 of us, we told the Chef that our budget was $200 each, he was creating dishes that wasn't even on the menu, we all got 2 appetizers each, and 5 main courses each, it was well worth it and a once in a lifetime experience.
Up until this video, my impression of Nobu was that it is a pretentious place. But honestly? I kinda like it. Not as gimmicky, show off-ish as the other expensive places, and they actually serve food.
@@thebois32I wont lie, I was expecting it to be way more. $8 is on the expensive side, but not by an insane amount, I would expect an avocado roll to be about $5 at my local spot.
Fun fact about nobu is that they design every location to mimic the surroundings. So rhe interior of the restaurant matches the city or geography of the place it's in.
@@deista21 More like 1/4, and the rice is probably the expensive stuff, short grain rice is already more expensive as is. 8 is expensive but reasonable. 5-6 bucks is normal at local sushi spots in US, more depending on location.
In fact the whole beer and massage thing is just a myth. Kobe is just really good meat and they have to show you the certificat of the animal when asked
It is amazing how expensive wagyu is in the US. I had the best beef I have ever eaten in Kobe, it being .2 kg of wagyu, for around $45. It was so tender that you could cut it using your chopsticks. And they had a beef rice bowl (got that as well) for about $20. The only thing I ever had that was close was some tenderloin I ate at a wedding reception in Lincoln, Nebraska. Ate 4 slices of that tenderloin that you could cut with little effort using a butter knife.
You're not factoring in the plane ticket and hotel and travel accommodations and expenses associated with going to Kobe to eat it... Cheaper just to pay extra to eat it at home...
had the pleasure of eating at a nobu location once, and I feel like its a solid balance of peak fanciness and actually good food. Not cheap, **at all**, obviously, but for a once a year kind of thing for the average joe, you can legitimately fill up for $150-$200 per person including a drink (doing omakase, and depending on location/date of dinner). Usually, fancy restaurants feel expensive simply because of the name of a guy working in the back. Michelin star restaurants are more about the experience and presentation which are certainly amazing if done well, but i'm not eating at that level ever, and nobu seems to have a solid ambiance, great food, all without charging you out the ass for the name brand. Its expensive, but you're actually paying for the meal.
