Left June 01/78, age 24.....Most recent visit back September 7 2023 for my 70 th. I was born and raised in Kilmarnock till age 9.... but seriously grew up in Glasgow. It offered so much to be amazed at in these days, getting around in the bus, learning to exist in the city. The 60's gang culture as a young person, or should I say keeping well away from it, yet it made you aware of danger Glasgow style.Obviously there was lot more to my life there, so many great memories that remain with me to this day....I loved being back, the friendliness of people has never gone...the laughter still so much a part of Glasgow. I discovered this site shortly after returning last year...Shed a lot of tears seeing periods of time I lived through, and seeing it as it was becoming over the years...looking back as I have aged, having built a new life in Canada, Glasgow will always be home....Thank you for these wonderful pictures.
Cheers Colin 👍 A couple of comments:- How smart that row of shops in Paisley Rd West looked in 1935 compared to how tatty they look today. I can remember there was an old lamplighter in the next close to me. Electricity had replaced gas by then but he had to go into every close in the evening with his ladder and turn on the close lights and then again in the morning to turn them off again. Can't remember they finally got automated but probably late 60's.
Clear bold and large writing of these locations, and sufficient time to savour and enjoy the pictures. One of the best I have seen a lot of nostalgia in these pictures.
Yet again fantastic memories of this great city & surroundings captured in wonderful pictures.. Well done as per usual Glasgow photographs for sharing them all..👍👍
