It's been exactly 2 years since I made a settings video, so here's an updated version. I did my best to only include the important stuff, if I missed anything feel free to let me know :)

At 5:44 - it is actually possible to walk when you have auto-sprint toggled on.
I changed the setting from
bind_US_standard "LCTRL" "+sprint" 0
to
bind_US_standard "LCTRL" "+walk" 0
Put these binds in your autoexec/settings.cfg and walking SHOULD work with auto-sprint

I wish to add to the discussion of the FOV.
1) I think you could've mentioned that having lower FOV can help to get more frames on a more limited setup if a player is willing to make the tradeoff. This is ultimately also about preference.
2) While aim trainers use 103 overwatch FOV (86-88 Apex as you mentioned), this is because the scenarios/tasks have been built around this field of view as the base. Matching the ingame fov with aim trainers and vice versa is a waste of time since the mouse control should transfer between games regardless of the fov being used. They're 2 completely different games and aim trainers are just supplemental material in the grand scheme of things (which I believe you mentioned in one of your older videos).

Theres still some very minor things you can do to reduce the clutter in this game that u might have missed in a autoexec.cfg (or launch options) that still work to this day like for example you can completely remove light bloom (basically anything that gives you this glow effect from light sources) from your crosshair, skins, just anything really that emits light which can make your game in general but mainly your crosshair look a lot sharper at times like for example you can see at 7:35 your crosshair because you're in a dark area has a lot of glow which can make it kind of hard too see what you're aiming at sometimes. With these commands down here u can completely disable it.

`+speed; +walk` works as well, those are the "generic" Source binds.

Dude, can you make a video on various strafe techniques during close and mid range gunfights
About damage feed back. I found out that I aim worse without hitmakers to the point that I left the game for a while because I felt like my bullets did no damage even if I was 1-clipping. So, for me, the simple X in the middle of the screen gave me back the joy of the game. Also, I usually play 1v3 so I have about 150 ms to notice the damage number and hitmarker really helps with it. My settings are: "X; Stacking"
thanks for the info hollow! i might finally try a stretched res to see how i find it. also, i use similar binds for weapon swap and superglides to what you were mentioning in the video; i use 1 for weapon 1, C for weapon 2 and i use space + B for supergliding. i used to use side buttons for my weapon swaps but later swapped them to melee and my tactical. i have since wanted to optimize even more but have become too comfortable on this configuration
Great video as always. I just re-built my PC so this was the perfectly timed video as I lost all my settings etc.
About healing on specific binds, if you have a Wooting you can use modtap. This is what I've done for a while now and I really like it.
I have shield cell on tap 4 and battery on hold 4, and syringe on tap 5 and med kit on hold 5 then phoenix is just 6. I do this because it makes sense to me mentally in a sense that "tap 4 = shorter action which equals short heal" and vice versa for battery. It could be argued I suppose that it's faster to have each one on it's own key but I have found this just works for me. Also with the modtap feature even just holding the key only takes 200ms and you can also adjust this timeframe in Wootility.

Love the video idea. Knew the majority of these, but still learned a new couple autoexec commands. One thing to note though: for some strange reason, whenever I play stretched res (16:10), my monitor's refresh rate gets locked at 144, even though I have a 165 Hz monitor and on 16:9 I always get the full 165 Hz.
After some googling today, apparently if you enable GPU Scaling in your AMD/Nvidia settings, your monitor's refresh rate should never lower itself. So, if your monitor's hardware allows you to check the refresh rate in real-time, do make sure you're not running a lower one when playing on stretched res.
Ok I'm going to say something controversial. (Found it on reddit so don't flame me) Texture streaming budget off is zero textures and texture streaming budget on anything higher than 0gb is considered high textures and the only thing you are doing by setting it to 2 or 3gb is keeping your VRAM on the table and not using it. I've tested it myself to be honest and setting max VRAM (obviously on a card that has that much) is objectively better than limiting it to 2 or 3gb for the same reason I just mentioned (leaving VRAM on the table for no reason). If anyone doesn't believe me, set it to 2gb, go to the firing range and enter a wraith ult and check your frames. Do the same with 8gb and see if your frames are any different (I doubt the frame drop from the ability visual jitter will be any different on 2gb and 8gb). Sorry for the long ass comment but just tired of seeing so many people on the lowest setting for no reason.

This setting should be set to the maximum your video card supports. It literally tells you that setting it to 0 will have adverse effects on performance.
Streamers and pro players are good at this game but they parrot a lot of technical misinformation.
I always read that as the ranges they were giving you were what you card should have to use this range not how much vram it was using. And I still run on low or medium but I don't have a high vram card and want to put as little stress on it as possible
This video was an amazing watch and learned a lot more than I though I would.

fun fact for the auto sprint ...if youre on controller you dont need to turn auto sprint off because you can just walk by simply not pushing the joystick all the way to the end ....if you want to have auto sprint on you can but i find it better not having to press a button on controller every time i need to sprint

Just a tip for weapon swapping, I use the alt key as "swap to next weapon" and 'c' key two pullout my hands/heirloom. That allows me to use 'v' for supergliding. Also I just put melee on 'f'.
Their are some reticle colors that actually make aiming easier because it doesn't blend in the environment which means better shot placement

That style of video is in the works, there's lots of things to sort through though, things like what should be governed by personal preference versus equipment that is OBJECTIVELY better than other equipment.
If I can't give a guide specifically, I'll make sure to give you good framework to use when looking to purchase new equipment :)
As far as I'm aware with how the FOV scaling works in modern games, having a different fov does objectively change your sensitivity. It's called "focal length sensitivity scaling" iirc, and as far as I'm aware apex (and a lot of other games) have it on and you cant turn it off. That's how they change the sensitivity when you ADS. Instead of having a set sensitivity reduction they reduce the sens depending on how zoomed it is.
Yeah, I've known about Apex's focal scaling system for a while, I just didn't want to include it in this video since I don't fully understand it and would rather just introduce someone to the base concept of their FOV making their sensitivity feel different
I feel like that creates some good framework for understanding WHY the focal scaling system exists and why it changes your sensitivity when you ADS

Okay so, something I’ve wanted to ask you since the day you posted the OG. May I look at your CRU profile? I wanna run 144 as it is more consistent as you do. But I can never get timings correct (same monitor just the 27inch).
Anytime I set my apex to 144 lock I get a crazy choppy mess compared to locking 190/240. It’s bizarre.
Another note for fov - especially for controller players, is that the higher your fov, the smaller targets will be at distance even at the same distance, 110 vs 97 you can see enemies a lot more easily as they appear larger. I feel like this matters for controller were a 2-4 or 3x makes recoil controller more difficult, you can get more mileage from a 2x or even iron sights with fov between 90-100. 110 is too high unless you are solely trying to fight up close and a movement crutch

One time it came to my mind to change the settings from the files to see if it works or not, and it did :)
I changed the setting from

and now I have to press to walk 😊

Scrolled down to say the same thing but you beat me to it. Personally prefer it this way, sprinting happens more than I need to be walking so this way less work for my fingers

@asdfgh42073 those exact lines. u r doing smth wrong if it's not working for you. i even just tried it myself just now. you know it works if u go to a dark place with a mastiff and scope in. ur ironsight should be crisp. if ur using the launch options add "+" in front of every command. (example: +mat_disable_bloom 1)
right click jump and space bar to aim is a must literally levels up ur aim by 10 u basically have the benifits of hold and toggle at the same time

Im now using the exact same sensitivity settings as you bro, but its nowhere near how fast you aim in game. It’s really “slow”. Is that supposed too happen?

what do you think about supergliding with scrollwheel (to jump)? and foot pedals are a great option to have optimized keys, i see too many pros using "inneficient" keys but they are just used to them. for example they use the same finger to interract and go to the right, so how do they peak a door from the right?
I've tried that before, I feel like other people might like it a lot better than I do since, for me, it feels WAY too awkward. I'm really picky with binds which is half of my problem when choosing a new superglide bind LOL

I didn't include that in my NVIDIA 3D settings channel in my Discord because I use whatever the default values are for color/digital vibrance
Any difference in color you see will be the result of my capture card changing how things look a little bit, or Color Correction added in editing software to make things look a little better
Just use 1 and 2 to switch weapons. I will say I press the wrong button in the heat of the moment sometimes but that has to be easier than c and v
@soar hollow this all looks fantastic however where the settings for ps5. Even since season 15 the map has got brighter and the dark areas have been darker and the biggest issue is shield brightness they have ramped this up to the point where when I shoot my gun I caunt see anything anymore it’s way too bright any ideas
Your sens FEELS higher when you zoom because you ZOOM. Imagine you are writing on paper and then get a strong magnifying glass and look through while you write... Your writing will look much more imperfect/shaky. A small bit now DOMINATES your screen and relative movement of the same objects is much greater than same objects at lower zoom.
in regards to cru, lobotomytv did not specify any info on timings, and the other recamended exact reduced, however i came across a article that noted cvt standard produced the least amount of ghosting .
I think the color reticle thing is a placebo/personal preferance, i felt no change from my preferable green reticle color.
I use obtuaries OFF is such a game chancer, the game is more clean for me who can be very distractive
Maybe i cam help you for guns keybinds, i have a g502 x plus and i use the Right And Left scrollwheel buttons to change gun and normal up and down for tapstrafe, if you have a mouse that have these keys try it cause for me it was game changing

hi, in your video config you have particle fallback base and multiplier set to -1? what benifit does that give over 0 or 1
Liked a lot of it, many I had done many I didn’t have done and changed them accordingly. However I gave the white reticle a shot for fun and my aim got worse. Take it from someone who works around guns and shooting. The human eye sees the most shades of green. In every setting even against a grass hill you can see a certain shade of green well. I would play around with it for your eyes but 0, 190, 0 is what I run.

@@hollow_o I run nothing but green optics. Way better in bright settings and easy to see on all back drops as long as illumination is strong enough in bright desert like conditions. Only have one red optic and hard to see in daylight unless full bright depending on sun level

I have a problem with this game that appeared only this season, I have a lag, I simply have a block, and when that block happens, the ping suddenly increases and drops back, what could be the cause. it's only for this game. it's not my internet problem
A while back you mentioned there's a command or something where you can get the X to popup with hipfire but be off during ADS. If you could please find that and test it/let us know how to activate the command that would be great!

i know this vid is 2 months old but if you ads and holster your weapon while adsing you'll walk, even with auto sprint on (you do have to hold right click though)

You can bind "Walk" to SHIFT button
If you're ever playing and see un-rendered buildings/objects, that's what texture streaming budget is tied to and why you don't want it on omega low
I have to use space bar plus v to superglide because for some reason c has an input lag when paired with space bar and v doesn't. It's weird

hi soar, should I buy a 240hz monitor if I can t reach 240 fps in apex? I reach about 144 fps and I m in a difficult decision, I don t know what monitor should I buy or what monitor is better for apex legends. A lot of apex players are playing on a benq xl2546k but it s too expensive to me. I want something at max 240-260 usd
I would argue that the difference between 240hz and 144hz isn't that huge but if ur planning to upgrade your PC in the future, upgrading to a good monitor right now (if u see a good deal of course) is def a good idea.
Peripherals such as monitors and mice/keyboards/controllers and stuff don't really change that much over the years compared to other PC stuff, so its viable to "future proof" them as compared to PC parts. I bought a 1080p 240hz monitor like 2 years ago but i capped my fps on 120fps because my gpu wasnt powerful enough and my fps fluctuates rapidly between 125~150 so i couldn't reach 144fps consistently(and def not 240fps). Now, just a couple days ago i finally upgraded my GPU and now i easily reach over 240fps so im finally using the monitor to its fullest potential and again, although it feels pretty nice, it doesn't really change how it feels that much compared to switching from 60hz to 120hz+
What I can't really help you with is whether you SHOULD get a 240hz monitor since if im not wrong in that price range (im not familiar with the US market), they are mostly 1080p. In my opinion, getting a 1440p 144hz/165hz is way better than a 1080p 240hz monitor for BR games. Since this is a matter of how it feels for you, I'd recommend to test them yourself (maybe at a friend's house? Lan centres?) Though of course you're going to have less fps if ur using 1440p. Just giving some suggestions.
Just correcting texture streaming buget should teoreticly reduce not increse latency sins game doesnt request gpus memmory as much and core will render most of work which is way faster than memmory. It can reduce fps a bit.
Also i've heard that the x1 scopes don't have the same feeling/sesn as the iron sight, like they are slower than iron sight so i'm not sure if it's still a thing but my x1 ads is around 1.3 to get that 1:1 ratio
I plan on making a video on that soon, mostly surrounding the idea of understanding sensitivity and how it works in this game
Most iron sights are zoomed in more than 1x

Question, I got a laptop with a monitor of 16:10 2560x1600. For some reason Apex, on that res, looks like 16:9, it just doesn't look like stretched res. Want to know if Force Display Scaling would fix that? If I want stretched res I'm practically forced to play 4:3 which I love just want to go back to 16:10. Anything would help.
stretched res doesn’t work well on the screen attached to your laptop, gotta use an external monitor connected via HDMI. Open up your Nvidia control panel or you AMD something and try it there.
It looks like 16:9 on your screen because it is not stretched; the monitor is designed to display that resolution.
You could change your monitor resolution to 16:9 (would that be 2560x1440?) and then run apex at forced 16:10 aspect ratio I think... but I'm not sure that puts the processing load on the monitor. Guess that's making the GPU do the work.
u cant stretch 16:10 resolution on a 16:10 screen, because thats the native aspect on ur screen
can I display scale with a asus vg259qm? it has a adaptive-sync but the monitor has a sticker that puts g-sync, thank you

If you play 1440p, 2304x1440 is the same as 1728x1080.

I have a problem with the Anti-Aliasing setting. Everyone keeps it on None but whenever i do that idk why, my textures start to literally move. Like legit the edges of the walls or buildings are moving idk how to explain it. My pc is new, with 4070ti and all DDR5 setup. I should not have any problem with this game in theory. Anyone knows what i should do?

He uses a higher FOV (120) combined with reduced horizontal pixel count to stretch the image so it makes the enemies look wider but still lets him see the same amount of angle around him.
Gets some of the benefits of low FOV (easier to see enemy movement) without sacrificing your ability to see what's going on around you.
Stretching a 16:10 image onto a 16:9 display isn't going to "feel" better simply due to it being closer to the golden ratio... you're just looking at a 16:9 box with squished/stretched pictures inside it. You'd need a 16:10 monitor if you were going to make that argument...
