Geoff added both lyrics and music to the song, his introduction in the description box probably told why - that chorus is probably about the shortest thing you can imagine in a song. But Geoff's additions fit in so well with the original music and lyrics that unless you compare the lyrics of the original to Geoff's, you probably won't even realize it!
Marty Robbins was also a NASCAR driver, drove in 35 Grand National/Winston Cup races between 1966 and 1982. Geoff does an awesome job, as usual. A couple other classic songs that he has covered are "Ain't No Sunshine" (Bill Withers) and "Big Bad John" (Jimmy Dean).
Dude, I had no idea he was a racecar driver, too! I was a fan of NASCAR, first as a kid during the Richard Petty heyday then again in my early 30s from the time Earnhardt, Sr passed to a few years before my man, Tony Stewart retired and I never knew this! Crazy!! Yeah, I've got to do those covers by Geoff! Thank you, my friend! P.S. Also found out he appeared in Clint Eastwoods, Honkytonk Man which was named after his song, and he was a pioneer of Outlaw Country music. Helluva career and life Marty Robbins had. RIP
@@BemusingBill I got into NASCAR in the early 90's , just when Jeff Gordon was coming in, so I followed him. Gave it up when they went to the segment racing. I remember Earnhardt saying " I ain't Sr., I'm just Dale" lol.
I don't know it as well as I do El Paso which is another great story-song and even has a sequel. That whole album, Gunfighter Ballads & Trail Songs is fantastic. It's on TH-cam so if you get a chance, I highly recommend listening to the whole thing. Much love and hugs, Velouria! ❤️❤️
Oh I remember the White Sport Coat song, but by a British group the King brothers, if I remember right. It's a long time ago. I did see them doing it live though. I remember seeing High Noon as a child, but of course it's all Hollywood. It was never like that in reality. Most people died with a bullet in the back. Gunslingers are a bit of a myth. As you can hear Geoff added words to make a chorus.
A White Sport Coat (and a Pink Carnation) was my father-in-law's second favorite song after King of the Road by Roger Miller. Marty Robbins is the original songwriter of Sport Coat. I remember High Noon. I grew up a fan of Eastwood so, Hang 'em High, Fistful of Dollars, and the rest of his Spaghetti Westerns I would watch over and over. Got into the older John Wayne westerns later in life. Yeah, just storytelling and entertainment those movies were. Thank you, my friend! ❤️
When you mentioned the White Sport Coat song, my mind went straight to Tan Shoes and Pink Shoelaces..... I guess I'm really old. I love Geoff's bass, a friend sent me a link to his version of 16 Tons and I was hooked. But I love his bari-tenor range maybe even more. If you like old west songs, he did a version of Ghost Riders in the Sky.
Ghost Riders In the Sky is one of my all-time favorite songs! I loved his version of 16 Tons which was the second song of his I reacted to. Thank you, my friend!
That was so much fun! I vaguely remember hearing the song way back in the day. It was vague enough so that this video had a newness about it to me and I really enjoyed every second. The more I hear of Geoff, the better I like him.
Yeah, I'm not as familiar with this one as I am with El Paso. Probably because I hear it being played on the radio on the Oldies station my mother-in-law listens to. She's very hard of hearing, so she has her radio cranked as high as it will go. There are times it actually bleeds into my recordings even though I'm all the way across the house and we both have our doors closed! Geoff is a great guy and an incredible singer. I'm glad you like him, too! ❤️
Always love when you react to Geoff's songs. He most definitely Geoff-fies songs and most of the time, as with VoicePlay, I prefer his/their versions. I'm going to be filming my Halloween video I'm hoping next week so it most likely will be up after Halloween but I'm going to do my best to get it up either on or before the day. As always, much love to you my friend.
I feel like music has lost something in the 21'st century. I'm glad people like Geoff are keeping these older songs alive, because it feels like music these days don't tell stories. They just repeat the same lyric over and over ad-nauseum, interspersed with nonsense words, or rip off artists that came before them and put a dance track in the background. Geoff took a song, (several songs actually) that came out long before he was born, and breathed new life into them. He didn't just sample the corus and put a dance beat in it. He did add in his own flare, but he did it in a way that enhanced the original while still respecting the original artist. Marty Robbins is smiling down on Geoff.
We get to hear his insane range plus his imaginative interpretation. 🌹🕊
I had to hear it through the surround sound and the subwoofer to get the full experience! It made all my cats run away 🤣🤣
@@BemusingBill- 😄😄😄 shame! Poor kitties

❤❤ what he does to these old classics.
Yes! ❤️

_"...Ridin' hell for leather, midnight to the dawn."_ Sick lyric there (added by Geoff)! 🤠
I grew up with Marty Robbins and Geoff does it up absolutely perfectly.
I think Marty would be blown away by this cover!
@@BemusingBill That's a great thought!

My pleasure!
I like "Dusty Old Songs" as a possible album name.
I second that! 🤚
