Unless students are taught vivadhi melams they cannot identify.R3 G3 D3 and N3..Those days it was only 1 and 2 like Ri R2 etc.the swaras on the veenai also show the same.and the notations of the songs also had 1 and 2 only..Now reaches have the problem of explaining R3 G3 etc especially to beginners when students ask where they are.Why can't notations be as before. ? Conspicuous. Teachers know when to educate students about vivadhi.that is only after students have reached a certain standard and will be able to understand.
