    Know of any places to get good deals on driftwood? Seems a lot of places over charge.

    • @TCSDartFrogs
      @TCSDartFrogs  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Glass Box Tropicals has good deals on wood, but it is a bit pricey because it's expensive to ship also.

    what's the maintenance and cleaning like on vivariums? I notice some of these are very clean and some have quite a bit of algae. is it fine to leave the algae for a while or do you need to clean it regularly? how quickly does algae build up?

    • @TCSDartFrogs
      @TCSDartFrogs  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Maintenance can be very minimal for vivariums, depending on some variables, I have some vivariums that I just mist several times a week and feed the frogs, cleaning the glass only once a month. The more ventilation you have in a viv the less algae will grow. The more humid vivs I keep will grow algae in 2-4 weeks and algae is not harmful just an eyesore. Another thing that may need to be done once every month or so is draining any excess water out of the bottom of the vivarium.

    Are all the dart frogs in the video kept at the same temperature? Do you adjust the temperature for each type? By the way, how many times are the temperatures raised in the morning and night?

    • @TCSDartFrogs
      @TCSDartFrogs  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They are all kept at the same temperature only thing that would differ is if some tanks have a more powerful light it could bring the temp up my a couple degrees. Other than that the temp stays pretty constant and may drop 5-10 degrees at night but that's about it.

    • @ZERO-ye5cr
      @ZERO-ye5cr 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you for your reply! How many times is the temperature managed?

    • @TCSDartFrogs
      @TCSDartFrogs  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ZERO-ye5cr Sure I try to reply to all the questions I get, honestly the temperature is just set on my home thermostat and I don't do anything special to regulate the temps in the frog room. The frogs do well in temps anywhere between 65-80 degrees. I try to keep them right around 75 degrees but the temp does vary from day to day just like it would in the wild.

    Curious if there might be a type of snail or other invertebrate that could help manage the algae, for aesthetic reasons. Or is the algae beneficial to them?

    • @TCSDartFrogs
      @TCSDartFrogs  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't know of anything that will eat the algae, any type of snail will also eat your plants and possibly frog eggs, in my opinion the algae it is not beneficial to the frogs in any way other than waste export

    very nice installations. I have a question: how do you manage to clean the front glass of your terrarium (those who are aquarium converted) and what product or tool do you use for that? thank u

    • @TCSDartFrogs
      @TCSDartFrogs  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I take the stolon which is the base of the bromeliad and push it through a hole drilled inthe driftwood, I'll be showing how to do this in one of my upcoming videos

    • @TCSDartFrogs
      @TCSDartFrogs  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      They are some sort of plumbing part fitted with fine stainless steel mesh, bought them on eBay years ago, unfortunately I don't have the link or know what they are called, wouldn't recommend them they are too much work to install and drill holes for.

    What’s your electricity bill for running all the lights, misting systems, and cost in general you’ve spent on everything?😂

    • @TCSDartFrogs
      @TCSDartFrogs  5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      So I've never calculated the power consumption for everything I run but it isn't that bad, 95% of the lights I run are LED's they are all on timers and the misting systems only go off for a few seconds a couple times a day. I've invested well over $20,000 in the 17 years I've been keeping frogs between buying frogs, plants, and equipment not to mention the time I've put into everything.
