- Jack, Josh and Sammy borrow the dogbox for a wee mission out to the Hokitika trench for an overnight trip to nail a Northern Pacific Bluefin Tuna.
Successful trip, although only a few Southerns jumped onto the lures. The lads ran out of Gas, shout out to George and crew for helping out with a jerry can of fuel so the lads could make safe harbour

Good to see some rookies out chasing bluies, well done cob!
Haha, cheers. Just for the record Jack has tagged every game fish in New Zealand. Josh is a commercial skipper and when he ain't fishing he skippers a big game boat in the far north. I'm probably the only rookie . The other lads have a shitload of experience
No not all rookies bro.
solid session boys killer time out on the water.
Great to see the Dog box out doing it's thing. She's a great wee boat. Some excellent tuna there guys. And some huge as smiles.😁

hi josh great video ,i have found when the tuna go deep straight below you and you cant move them drive away from them and they will corkscrew up to the surface
Yeah, we usually plane them up to the surface, get them moving then put the pressure on
OH CRAP!

Excellent vid Josh. My son in law was in a group from ChCh that went out to the Hokitika Trench last week. Caught 4 & put some smaller ones back. Largest was 135kgs. Cheers
Powerful
After what NZ did to their Cray fishery, the scallop beds and the orange roughy, it’s not really that surprising that they allow trawlers to target breeding schools of hoki. The Marlborough Sounds used to be full of kahawai and the trawlers worked together to strip farm them in the Strait and off they went to WA for crayfish bait.
Eeww wwee my man 👌👏
Sweet
Nice 😊 🤠🤙🤙🤙💯🏋️♂️🎣😁
Quick question mate, what lb leader are you using and how long is the leader? 10-15 ft I'm guessing.
amazing video! just subbed :)
You boys need a heavy deep V glass boat. I recommend an Edencraft formula 233, no more pounding.
Think us kiwis will stick to our own brands of glass boats 🫡
Amazing fish and no chill bags with salt ice come on guy's
No salt ice available on the coast
@joshjameskiwibushman bloody coast aye I suppose it's pretty bloody cold down there this time of year anyway
nice size blue fin but I think you need a bigger boat.😎👍
Morning good 30:55
What’s the name of the first lure there, the Kane lure?
Torp those trawlers, these bugger fish every thing that swims.
Excellent vid.
You where out there running those engines for a few hours, how much fuel does the DNA carry versus your run time, 6hours or so before you have no more fuel?
Out there for 2 days and a night, takes over 2 hours doing 20 knots just to get to the fishing grounds. Big few days. Boat carries 180 litres of fuel. 16 hours of trolling at 5 to 7 knots, plus 4 hours plus doing 20 knots....
Thanks Josh.
As you spend a lot of time out there, Given the various conditions, big seas/hard ride, out of DNA, Osprey, stabi, in your opinion what would be the softer riding boat that handles those conditions…
Or
There is no perfect boat….
@@auintogold4725 anything over 7.5 metres is a smoother ride for a pontoon boat. For a real smooth ride you really need to go for a glass boat or plate boat. As for build quality, DNA is definitely leading. If you get a chance to go to a boat show and compare brands you will see what I mean

Much appreciated
Epic vid!! How fast do you troll at? Keen to go give it ago!!
5.5 to 7.5 knots depending on current and swell and wind and how the lures look and stuff. Generally 6.5 though. Seems to work
@@joshjameskiwibushman cheers for the reply. Love your work brother
👍👌👍👌👍🤝
Heard rumors about pacific blues caught offshore of bank's peninsula
Commercially
Did everything right bleeding it an then ruined the meat towing it by the tail
Not so.... Towing it flushes the blood out and cools it down quicker
@@joshjameskiwibushman tow it by the jaw. So water can get into your throat cut. Lifting or towing any fish by the tail separates the membranes in flesh. I've caught an processed 1000s of bluefin commercialy
@@sancostanzo-nj4cx you should try towing the next one by the tail... That's a lot of cock ups
Seriously though. It won't matter if the skin is still on, few different ways to skin a cat aye
As epic as this is it’s upsetting seeing sooo many trawlers in the background raping the Hoki
Yeah it's a real bugger aye. Day and night for months dragging nets back and forth. Not long till they are all gone
So sad seeing those trawlers wrecking the future….greed
