I learned this recently when my daughter started skateboarding. I've skated for over 20 years, and I forgot that at the beginning, it was about fun, not progress.
My dad killed football for me. Made it not fun. Had me playing middle school football and star pop warner same time. Wanted me to get as many snaps as possible.
Damn that’s a lot of working out as a kid… you need rest just as much as exercise. My stepdad was a hardass too and took all the fun out of every sport
The issue with being a father who wants best, is that you become overbearing BECAUSE you know what you did wrong. So often times, we like to think that steering them clear of EVERY possible fuck up is going to be productive when in reality, it’s not

As someone who did boxing because my uncle told me “you just have too, youre an only child you have to know how to defend yourself.” It definitely wasn’t fun until I got older and found my own appreciation for it. But as a kid it was absolutely not fun because I was forced to do it, rampage seems to understand that if his son is going to seek out fighting on his own, he’s not going to be overbearing on him because he needs to let the coaches do their thing. Which is coach lol.
