This really does seem to be the most you could fit into a very small space Mike... Gives us all much to think about in terms of small layout designs. I particularly like the dual aspect of turning the layout around... Excellent idea..
Anther great video and ideas for small layouts. Love the autumn look and a cool idea for cheap scatter. Just bought my first set of trees and foilage for my holidays project.
Absolutely love the autumnal colours, that bit of colour just adds that next level of visual interest I feel. Even though you can see both sides that road gives a visual ‘split’ acting almost like a centre backdrop (?). I really do love this layout, it has everything for everyone and is compact enough to put anywhere and run anytime.
Well done Mike, again you've amazed me by the speed you build the smaller layouts, and I love the double sided look. A few years ago Model Rail published an article showing a four sided layout, just using a circular track and dividers between sections. Very interesting and clever.
Hi Mike. What a fantastic little layout. Bags of play potential with it, Could even take it to exhibitions, people like to see one person layouts not just the big clubs. Great vlog buddy. Have a fabulous new year. Thumbs up thumped 👍 .... Pete....
Love the layout. I liked that you put the train's controller at the layout's corner. The switch and the knob on the corner building looks abstractly like air ventilation and a water tank. The look of that doesn't detract from the overall look. Hope you had a great Christmas and wishing you the best in the coming year!! Looking forward to your videos next year.
You guys have been such an inspiration im gonna have a go at a simple n gauge loop layout to fit in the back of my MGB GT, I've bought some Kato track and a Graham farish class 08 in BR Green, maybe industrial themed. I honestly think you should do a proper suitcase layout maybe a harbour themed one that would be great. Keep out the great work Mike and Doug. Many thanks Brad
That looks superb! Great job once again. I like the way you've added a road over the track into the middle, much better than a level crossing. That for me, really makes it into a layout because of the access to the station and the goods shed and the scenic break with the road bridge. I think that's the best small layout plan you've done so far.
Looks like you could also hold a train in the main line loop (at the tunnel end) and work end to end between the two sidings as the points would isolate the tunnel section? Lots of fun to be had! All the best for 2025
Many thanks for all your content during 2024 and the layout as whole looks Great - you must be pleased and the ballasting looks spot-on considering your concerns earlier on. As we move towards 2025 I'm thinking N Gauge ovals of various size are where it is at for me in the New Year. Have a temporary one set up near me as I type for some Holiday fun which will develop into something more permanent over the coming months. Just ordered a Kato compact oval for another project and gathering some bits to add to a Fleischmann starter set that I've owned for some time but finally going to get it fixed to a board. Best Wishes for 2025 Guys 🙂
If this was mounted onto a motorised turntable, you could run a loco at just the right speed, and it would appear to be staying static, with the whole world moving around it…
Hi again, this time using this very well thought out micro lauout as the place to ask my question. It's a follow up to the Kato turnout question you graciously answered. In this layout, you use the tiny Peco turnouts. How do you find these work out over time? Does their spring lock go soft? Switch motors aside, as I'd use them manually, how do they stack up against Kato 4's, or the 6"R Kato turnout? Ive not used Peco's in over 20 years, as i always had difficulties with the switch motor over time, and steam engine pilot trucks would often pick the points and derail. Your thoughts pls?
Never had issues with these peco points, the larger versions can cause derailments. I've read of one chap who has had them on a layout for ten years with no issues. Pony trucks are a problem on any and all points in my experience, this is a flaw with the loco not the points in my view. Kato points are in my view superior, but there is no real issue with peco, and Kato don't make a point this small, the small tram point has a very acute angle which restricts it's use in micro layouts such as these
I think this is exactly what I'm looking for. I have no interest in historical accuracy or digital control. I like to watch the train round the track, I like sightlines into the layout, and character. Mostly I'd like to represent a few of my wife and I's favorite places on one small whimsical layout.
what scale is this? something that has been preventing me from doing model railways is the space required, but like you say for something so small there is a lot of operating potential!
@BudgetModelRailways Sorry about that, you have motivate me to just build one instead of collecting forever without building anything while waiting for "space".

Excellent layout, one of the best ones so far.

Hello,it looks alot better now with scenery and buildings, the idea of a two way layout is brilliant for a different point of view.
Many thanks!

A four sided is an interesting Idea thanks. One of the advantages of micro layouts is the speed you can build them
The autumn look is fantastic 🍁 🍂

Very enjoyable, watching the trains go round. 👍
Nice ! Just below the size of an A2 paper sheet. I love the track plan, simple and efficient.
Thanks

Thanks that's very kind
That looks wonderful Mike.Happy New Year to you and Doug. Thanks for all the help over the years 🚂👍
Thanks for the support
Have a great New Year Mike, Doug, and family.
I'm building a tiny layout similar to this one for my nephew. Hopefully, he'll catch the bug.😊
Cheers!
Well done, happy new year
Simplicity is the key and two sided means a different perspective....well done
Thanks
Your track and ballast looks really great.
Thanks
I like the reversible element of the layout Mike. Sounds daft, but maybe you should put the layout on a turntable so you can show that element off?

Fantastic layout lots of potential. Also any progress on the kato points electrical switching?
Mike what show are attending please?

That’s a cool idea, would be fun to see!
I’ve just created a Warhammer 40K n guage layout using that very model.

It's N, which is a quarter of the size baseboard for OO
What track do you use? Thanks
@@deanevans1587 peco, points set track and flexitrack
Add some weight to the wagon, those n-gauge one tend to be too light (especially those with plastic wheels).
Yes my box Wagons all have extra weight, but not these three
What are the dimensions of this layout?
Dimensions are in the video
It's 22 X 11 in, full details in the video
