I have two of these devices and they work great. However I really need one that can accept an aux or external mic input. Is it possible to modify or rewire it to substitute this for the internal mic?
You would need an OTG cable for an iPhone and VLC media player on your phone. Yes MacBook's are fine, you just cant set the date and time with the software that's included on the device because its Windows only, but you can still set the time for the recorder by using a text file on your Mac.

Hi, so standby mode makes it last longer? And the audio will start and stop every time it picks up on audio? Yes, standby mode is a low power state that’ll extend the battery life when it does not hear a sound. 60db is about the sound level needed to trigger a recording, but the program for date and time stamping of the files allows you to adjust this up or down a couple points using a Windows computer. How can the MQ L500 be formatted so that when the files are transfered to a pc file, they retain their original recorded date rather than the date they were downloaded to your pc? Once the files are played, the original recorded date seems to disappear? Also, is there a way to find the original dates the files are actually recorded on?
From what you have explained, it sounds like the time and date were not set up or did not take hold when initially set up because if they were, it would bring over the original date and time of when the recording was made, and it should hold said time and date even after it has been played. There is software on them that allows you to set the time and date, but it only works for Windows computers. Mac users have to do it differently by setting up a plain text file with the date and time crafted in a particular fashion.

How do you get play back ? You would need to adapt. There's one to go on and have a machine and want to go into your laptop.
You can play the device back on a Windows or Mac. It comes with a USB cable to plug in.

No, the device does not have software for that, you would need to get some software that can clean up back ground noises.
