    This was a great and to the point video.
    I already knew this, but wanted to add
    a practical, common sense tip of my own.
    Simply carry a spare battery with you;
    in your wallet as I do, or wherever is most convenient for you.
    It's a simple matter of opening the remote key fob and identifying what lithium ion button cell battery it takes.
    My 2017 TRD Off Road Tacoma takes one CR2025. Your vehicle may take two button cell batteries.
    Either way, you can do the old hold the key fob against the push button trick, or replace the battery, for a good as new fix. I prefer the latter. 👍

    Thank you for this video, I got temporarily stranded and the truck would not open with fob, I didn’t know about the key, but what I was really worried about was starting the truck if the battery on the fob was dead. It worked out and now thanks to your video I know what to do in the future. Again, thanks so much.

    Great video. I was hoping I could hide the mechanical key part under the car as a spare. This will be in case I lose the fob itself. But it appears that will only let me get into the car but not start it. Guess the old days of having a spare under the car hidden don’t work unless you put a $400 fob hidden under the car! Thanks for posting

    I've known about the key, but the trick with the fob was new and good information. When you touched the push to start with the fob, I heard a chirp in your truck. So I knew that it was going to work the moment you pushed the start button. This gives more options for my hide-a-key fob spare. I can remove the battery now and not have to worry about it.

    • @RobMotive
      @RobMotive  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It could come in pretty handy👍

    • @condor5635
      @condor5635 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I like the idea of hiding the key fob without the battery for emergency access and starting but I don’t like the idea of spending $300 for that spare key fob. The car only came with two fobs. Are use one and my wife uses one. I have to get a third in order to hide it. Any other ideas on hidden emergency spares? I’m assuming that whatever signal the fob uses when it’s dead is tied to that car and it’s not just some generic key fob that will work correct?

    • @RobMotive
      @RobMotive  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Given the unique code utilized by each fob, the only choice that I’m aware of would be an additional fob😬

    Rob, this was an absolutely GREAT video! How cool was that, regarding how to use the key fob when the battery in it goes? That is something that I would never have thought about, but it will happen someday, as you mentioned, so this video will definitely be a big help. It was probably somewhere in the owners manual, but hey, your explanation and showing it the way you did, was WAY better than trying to figure it out when the time comes, by reading the manual! HOWEVER, one question that arose after watching the video; I was wondering what would happen if you took that key fob, without the battery, to ANOTHER TACOMA? I wonder if that Tacoma would then start?

      Thanks!! I thought it would be interesting since I’d never done it muself😆. I don’t think it would work in another Tacoma. I’m sure it’s coded to each truck specifically 👍

    So great video...my question...can you take key with you...NO FOB...and have it in your swim pants and get it wet and still have it work to unlock your door without damage to the key. So if it gets wet it is not going to be damaged. What are your thoughts on that???

    • @RobMotive
      @RobMotive  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Absolutely. It’s simply a metal key without any electrical components. 👍
