Stamp comes across as sympathetic villain somewhat, but I don't blame Miranda for trying to reason with him or trying to escape. She is being held against her will. Also, Freddie doesn't learn his lesson because at the end of the film he's out stalking another victim. This is a great film! Stamp and Eggar worked great together!

If he wasn't a psycho who kidnapped her I would actually say they make a great looking couple.

I haven't seen this movie since I was maybe ten yrs. old or so and it still haunts my thoughts from time to time. Very creepy. Stamp is an amazing actor.

right, you notice the collector refuses to let his victim release that live butterfly from the jar. that situation means that the collector will not release his victim from the locked cellar.

In a situation like this it is possible to be easily disgusted by even the most beautiful human being.

Amen to that - I can't get enough of John Fowles. Try reading The Magus - a total mind fuck.

No wonder he has to resort to kidnapping to get a girlfriend! He's the worst kind of nerd, too. He has to kill things in the course of his hobby.

right, you think about what you want and it comes to you rightaway.
i haven't read that book yet, and i can't say i'd missed it 'coz watching the movie on DVD is good enough.

the irony of this story is that some readers might sympathise with the criminal and dislike the victim.

Why would anyone with a logic mind sympathize a criminal over his victim??!!

I really think Stamp captured Clegg in a remarkable way in this film. I do not like Eggar as Miranda. For one thing, I don't think she is pretty enough. Nor does she fit the description of Miranda from Fowles' book.
Stamp did this film instead of reprising the lead role in Alfie, a role that he originated on both the London and Broadway stages. He had a tough time of it, playing Alfie, and did not want to do it for film. He suggested his best friend, Michael Caine, for the part.

dont know if its Terence Stamp's look in this movie but he kinda reminds me of that creepy guy from Ghostship ...you know the guy who wanted everyone dead and get the gold? dont you see the resemblance?

    不気味なストーカーを演じた俳優が魅力的だったために
    自分もテレンス・スタンプなら誘拐されてもいいという女性も多かったはずです。

@numberxxi I feel the same. Im still reading the book atm but Miranda really bothers me. She comes across a spolit little brat. She is far less annoying in the movie.

i actually found i disliked miranda when i read it, i mean i know she's being held against her will... but she wont shut the fuck up? i thought fredrick was a monster of course, but i still felt bad for him, the ending is extremely disturbing though!

A very English Norman Bates. A good film from a brilliant novel. The film of the Magus is one of the worst films made of one the greatest books ever written.

  • @irinatl89

the movie is horrifying, one could not stand 10 minutes of it after reading the book. the actors flatten the complexity of the scenes (not that the director would be too bright), it's just yuck!
