The album is a grower. I know it has very complex lyrics and metaphors to be digested at the first listen. Like for example there are some songs you weren’t paying much attention to like “How Did It End”. It would be great if you give your ranking after you listen to the album multiple times! And I LOVE your videos man keep it coming ❤

Unpopular opinion but I honestly prefer the first half over the anthology. I agree with people that say she needs to move on from Jack but I also think she needs to cut ties with Aaron because a lot of these songs feel like blander inferior versions of songs from folklore/evermore. The first half at least had guilty as sin, ICDIWABH, loml and Florida which are all more memorable than anything off the anthology imo.

The initials for the three names are CPR. the bolter is put between Peter and robin as a reference that since Taylor is the bolter she bolted before she could finish the CPR (“stopped cpr after all it’s no use”) so that just something cool about the track list. kind of disappointed I hate it here and iggyb are so low cuz they’re my faves from the anthology but the black dog and Peter being so high make up for it. your explanation at the end about Taylor making it more for swifties than anyone else was really good though, couldn’t have said it better. thanks for delivering yet again, Jason !!

Okay finished the video haha I agree with you. To me both albums are a bit too slow... Not as good as folklore/evermore slow. That being said she released the album when I was coming to term with the idea of ending a pretty unhealthy relationship where I felt tolerated so in that sense I appreciate the album only because I can relate to it. I couldn't even listen to some songs without feeling sick. Unlike other albums of her there isn't a lot of songs that I actually listen to. Maybe the prophecy, black dog, how did it end but that's it. The lyrics do come across as a tiny bit pretentious and I wonder if it's because she was being praised as THE songwriter and she pushed that a bit too far. Swiftie here so I'm not disappointed, but i agree it's far from being her best work
Tail between your legs is a reference to what dogs do when they're scared or ashamed so it relates back to the title "The Black Dog" thats just my interpretation of it :)
longtime swiftie, folkmore worshipper and am seeing her in two weeks, yet i don't know the lyrics to more than two or three songs from this album and atp i don't care to 😭 this album had months to grow on me but it just didn't and that's fine imo. i feel the same as you, if not more negative.. there are some great lyrics here and there but when you have 30 songs that are packed full with overreaching "poetry" it tends to end up sounding convoluted . definitely not everyone's cup of tea !

As a swiftie, I wasn’t too impressed with either sides of this album (standard and anthology). There’s some good songs and a few ones I really loved but it was just too long, too messy and didn’t feel honest to me. I think she was thinking too much about how she’d be perceived or portraying something that really wasn’t her. Either way I don’t like the vibes or the aesthetics or concept. More honest songs on the second part of the album, I think that’s why I like better but yes I’m disappointed. The Albatross, So High School, How Did It End? and The Prophecy are my favs. I think if she combined the albums, edited the songs and song list down to normal album length it might have been really good. More isn’t always better, I hope she realises that soon. I’m totally overwhelmed with the content at this point like double album plus re-releasing all the old albums so close together is impacting my want for anything new and I think she’s overstretching herself musically. I want her to take a break at some point and only write when she’s doing something fun, new and creative.

I am so tired of reading comments that defend this album with statements to the effect of "it is very complex lyrically". Nothing Taylor has ever written as been too complex for a person with a general education to understand. That's not a knock on her, it is actually her main strength and why I believe she is so successful. At her best, her lyrics are smartly written, while also being easily digestible. This is not the case on TTPD. Most of the lyrics are clumsy and lack any sort of editing or are laughably bad ( Whether I'm gonna be your wife or Gonna smash up your bike). The lack of focus or self-editing is not surprising since she released this double album in less than 2 years time from Midnights among working on other projects. Musically TTPD is tired and doesn't cover any new ground but rather recycles old sounds already explored. Uninspired and sounds as if it is AI generated lol. Taylor needs to part ways with Jack if she wants to grow as an artist at this point. Overall I feel that this album is justly criticized. TTPD is a bloated, self-indulgent (lyrically), dull (musically) mess of an album that mostly appeals to diehards as they are invested in her personal life. Unrelated side note: I love your videos and do believe you will become very successful on TH-cam. Your talent for editing and growing skill of analyzing and articulating thoughts on pop music is easy to trace from your early videos till now. And you're only getting better! Love what you're doing!
