As a mantis main, anyone I come across playing mantis who kills me I can’t help but smile. I know what it’s like and I know that while I’m bummed I died, that mantis is probably overjoyed.
The thing that tickles me is they took concepts like flight and said "This isn't overpowered" and just stuck it on heroes. Iron Man is extremely vulnerable unless you're playing cover, Storm's entire kit relies on being close to your team as an anchor, and Starlords ult makes you very vulnerable and unable to jet boost. Contrast that with Pharah having a fuel gauge and the game feels like it's trying to maximize fun.
In regards to the cosplayer comment, I’ve definitely cosplayed characters from games I’ve NEVER played just because they look cool (and sexy). It’s also fun at conventions because everyone KNOWS who you’re cosplaying and you get fun interactions and compliments. I’ve already seen some cosplays and dang it, I’m very tempted XD Edit: I appreciate the support and conversation! If you’ve never been to a convention or cosplayed, I highly recommend it! It’s nerve-wrecking, yes, but it’s also a great chance for self-expression and social interaction. Everyone there IS a nerd, so it’s easy to start conversation if the other party is up for it. For me, it was liberating. I was in a bad place, but I made a group of friends who basically adopted me and taught me everything I needed to know about cosplay. They also taught me I look hot XD. I stumbled here and there, but I eventually found myself.
@ghostoflazlo Liking a character entire for their design (something that the artists put a lot of thought into) is completely fair and valid. People might call it shallow but to dismiss appreciating a design instead of personality and/or lore when ALL these things could have plenty of effort put into them is the shallow mindset.
@@spinyslasher6586 Nah, it's the other way of not complicated. They are indeed mostly doing it for attention, but there's nothing wrong with doing that because as human we tend to seek those.
I did not expect the game to be this fun, brings back the same vibes as playing TF2 or Overwatch at their prime but with so much more potential for future modes and content.
@@TheDieselDRNKR As a tf2 fan i agree, but honestly tf2 had a good run. the game is 17 years old, the game had its time in the spotlight and the times of its prime is gone. I'm just glad that tf2 is still remembered as the masterpiece it is instead of falling into ruin like so many other titles
@@TheDieselDRNKR ehhhhh TF2 not really, I love the game don't get me wrong, but it's almost 20 years old, to expect Valve to support a game for almost 20 years is just ridiculous honestly Especially after comic 7 has wrapped up the story
on the subject of voice actors, some of these casts (specifically Liam O'Brien, Laura Bailey and Yuri Lowenthal) have been voicing these characters for years in other non-MCU marvel media. The devs knew to hire the right people for the job.
I still think, that they should have left Nolan North to voice Deadpool, like he did in the Deadpool videogame and in Marvel Vs. Capcom. It seriously fucks with my head to hear him in a Marvel game and not as Deadpool.
Considering they've been doing nothing but tease Deadpool in the game I don't think it's out of the question to assume he'd be voicing Deadpool when they bring him in
20:25 in today's gaming scene, you can see if a game is succeeding both doing 2 tests: 1. How much R34 content there is of the game/characters "Rivals is growing extremely fast on this sector, than OW, like i was amazed by this." 2. If you can easily figure out a character just based on their silhouette of them. Like an white image and the character completely black. "Overwatch character can be easily found out like this, Tracer, Ramattra, Widowmaker, Reaper, Junkrat as examples. "In concord, you could never really figure out who's silhouette has it"
Bricky, remember the video about the modding community and the game review of Subverse? SFM is not what it was that is today now if not for Overwatch. The power of influence is incredible in both good and bad ways.
An example of the Power of Influence is when John Favreau was talking about the winter Olympics, about an athlete who had his helmet look like Iron Man's helmet. Imagine you create a piece of art that inspires an professional athlete who is representing himself and this country to go the Olympics and have a helmet designed to look like your character in front of thousands of viewers all over the world... Thats the power of Influence. Same goes to the R34 community, just look at Atomic Heart as an example, what do we know the game mostly for huh?!
My favorite thing about rivals is that Luna Snow is essentially the producer's oc and he put her front and center to advertize her, that's some of the most based shit I've ever seen personally
The list of reasons for Concord's failure had me giving a mild but hearty chuckle Also I've learned in my years that no game genre is ever truly dead. It's just waiting for the right people to make the right game in it.
Tbf about Wolverine is that they forgot to mention his claw attacks does percent health damage. It does on the website but not in game which is why ppl thought he was awful.
But a good Wolverine can duel against anyone not just the tank, I remember the first month people just don't know how to approach playing Wolverine so they just goes in and die
Marvel Rivals is such a good, faithful adaptation of Marvel characters that it reminded me that I actually liked Marvel before the MCU. In the era of Hulk, Spider Man, and the X-Men being the big money makers I genuinely enjoyed it. It’s like finding out your favorite place to eat as a kid is still around, and going in for some food.
8:34 The duality of being able to survive soloing the entire enemy team to buy time for my team to get back where there's a coin flip whether or not I survive once they get to the point, to being erased within seconds of the enemy looking at me with my entire team backing me.
The thing with the battlepass in this game is this: 10 skins on a $10 pass. Practically a dollar for each one AND all the little things in between. And some of these skins are so highly made they would usually be sold by themselves on the store at a "premium" price. Damn near every skin is actually so good. You could NEVER say that about an Overwatch or Apex legengs pass that is filled with boring small patterns and re-colors. The Rivals pass is truly worth EVERY sing penny.
Yup. As a person who basically never bought a single battle pass in any game ever, this S1 was an instant buy. If they keep the quality of the battle passes up I would buy every single one as long as I play the game. They also seem to strike a nice mix of "sexy" and "badass" looking skins. I am all there for the badass ones and others are there for the sexy ones. Something for everyone.
20:43 Fun fact, as an asexual this also works on me so long as the outfits have some other visual appeal. For example that Psylocke skin really gets me because she just looks so good and so cool. Making hot characters is fine, I just wish more designers stopped thinking that it comes down to removing clothes when there's so much more you can do
Indeed, so much so that some of the hottest looks for these characters are ones where they're fully clothed. Magneto's King Magnus skin really gets me going.
I remember Lilly from Kinkymation (you might know her channel from when she reviewed TF2 character design) talked about how sexyness is a theme you can convey without resorting to "less clothes". She used the character Jane Doe from Zenless Zone Zero as an example. It's really fascinating.
Something I feel like I should add regarding the character designs: Whoever made the executive call to include JEFF of all heroes into the game was a genius. The only content I've seen about Rivals early on was entirely focussed around Jeff. Insta Reels full of compilations showing either how goofy Jeff players are, or how some Hulk, Iron Fist or Winter Soldier manhandles them. And honestly, Jeff is the entire reason I personally started playing. The design of this one character is just so damn close to perfect (in terms of tone, and visually; not necessarily gameplay) that I actually started playing the game after crashing out hard from Overwatch years ago. Seriously, it's hard to understate how hard they cooked with Jeff. The best part: Jeff is also an INSANELY niche character who has like 2 main line comic book appearances and 1 comic shorts series for himself. They absolutely did not have to include him!
Honestly this game got me into reading comics, I was tired of marvel movies too but I played this game and also the new daredevil trailer came out and I decided to give comics a shot and omg they are so fun, there is near infinite potential of new seasons with all the storylines and events. I've read the fantastic 4, age of X, daredevil, devils reign, krakoa, xmen vs the avengers, the marvel rivals tie in and I haven't had so much fun reading in a while. The movies are fun but they don't do it justice. The game is super fun, I love dr strange and Mr fantastic, it feels good to be a good tank
A lot of the VAs have been voicing those characters for a lot of their careers as well. it’s really cool to see characters like Thor and Captain America being voiced by their long-time VAs in such a popular video game 🙂
"After 8 years of development hell, Concord came out at the perfect time to when Overwatch fell off and any decent hero shooter could take it's place. Now unfortunately for Concord, that door was NOT WIDE ENOUGH FOR DAW. So Marvel Rivals slid in instead" ~Fleekazoid 2024
I don’t necessarily agree with the “I wished Concord was the death nail in hero shooters”. It’s love this genre and this game is proof many people do as well. All I hope for concord to be the wake up call for is that in order to succeed in this bloated market you have to stand out, be creative, and overall play well. It’s not your CEO’s who bring in the money, it’s your developers.
"He who controls the porn controls the market". Yeah, as a furry I can say we're responsible for the influx of rocket raccoon players into this game, and we are both sorry and welcome for it
The amount of times ive loaded up bucky and gotten a rocket, or seen a hela and switched to loki, the team ups are amazing. Special shout out to hulks who power my absolutely opressive Dr. Strange even more
you can also pretty easily get enough premium currency to go back and buy the premium battle pass that you wanted the skins from for free in a few seasons
I'd just like to point out what I like best about this game's monetization/store: You can earn the currency for the normal store through the Battle Pass. So buying the battle pass has the added benefit of allowing you to buy an additional costume when you've gotten all the Lattice(gold currency) and the Blue Unit currency. You can turn the Lattice currency into Blue store currency or Purple BP currency. I recommend ONLY turning Lattice into Blue currency. The purple you can easily get through completing daily and weekly missions. And if you can't afford a costume you want by the time you get all the currency available in the battle pass, you can use what you did get to basically get the costume you want at a "discount". Or wait for the next battle pass and use that currency. I absolutely hate the fact that I don't have a choice in the matter in OW2.
One thing I like about the free battle pass is it doesn’t do the playtime thing of put all free skins in the back where you need 40 hours of gameplay to get, they do it throughout from the start to finish
I started playing two days ago on Thursday. Dude... the last live service game I played was Fortnite six years ago. I swore I'd never touch another one. Now though... I'm playing Punisher all the way and I'm having a blast.
I am thankful that someone else says that aesthetics matter in human taste. Wanting the character you play to look good should not make someone automatically shallow or pervy. People just want to look at nice things. Yes I bought the Psylocke skin.
14:03 I've played team shooters, I've run dungeons in World of Warcraft, and this is a very good point. Not only is it definitely important for healers to feel like they can hold their own in a fight, using the Marvel IP means you as a player have to feel as though your favourite hero can hold their own in the field even as a support. The novelty/confusion of discovering Rocket Raccoon, Mr. Psycho Big Gun Fuzzbutt, is a healer goes away pretty quickly with handling his personal minigun to charge your ultimate.
Hey Bricky I seen you around in a few collabs sometimes and had a decent idea of who you are, but you actually make very good videos. Like you know what you're doing and what you want the audience to get from it. Which is something that takes skill in a different way from just being funny
17:56 That's actually wrong Bricky: Once a season is over, you can't actually purchase those passes anymore, unless you bought them during their seasons. So somebody who starts playing Rivals 2-3 season down the line won't be able to buy snd earn the rewards from previous seasonsxat all - it's still FOMO.
Another point to its popularity: Non FOMO Battlepass. You can get ANY Battlepass and complete it on your time and at any point in time as long as the servers stay up
To add to the point of attractive characters, Marvel Rivals ended up showcasing that having a curvy, not fat, but certainly not thin, character can indeed be the most attractive character in the game. Diversity doesn't mean unattractive, but some conflate the two. Looking to you Concord... Though I admit I am biased, Squirrel Girl is one of my favorites.
What's funny is the majority of those actors (Including Travis 'Roy Mustang' Willingham as Thor) have been playing these characters in games for almost a decade. Liam has pretty much been my Dr Strange in most media outside the MCU. (Now lets get the rest of the Critical Role cast in Marvel Rivals)
I have always been a healer main in every game that has that play style. I main Cloak & Dagger and Rocket. I can't wait for Ultron to be released and I am planning on Ultron being my main support character, his healing bots will be OP
It's funny people still get surprised at the voice cast for a lot of the heroes, namely cause they've already been voicing the cartoon/video game counterparts of their heroes for a long while now, so not only is it good that they're already solid voice actors, but you have consistency for those who've already heard them prior to rivals, which is something that isn't really touched upon in these kinds of videos, but it's a nice detail to take note of! It has me curious if it'll continue with future heroes that have had cartoon/video game counterparts.
14:29 - the best way to counter Rocket is to shoot his team and not try to back him into a corner. Because if Rocket is busy healing he isnt busy using his full auto highest DPS in the game shotgun which eviscerates anything and anyone in 10m range. Dive tanks are often genuinely surprised when they dive in only to be back at spawn in 3 seconds.
This game is honestly doing quite a lot for Marvel. I unironically started reading some comics after years of putting it off 😭 Playing Magik led to me reading Magik stuff and then Xmen stuff. I've been subsumed into the Xmen fandom because of a hero shooter 💀
Bricky didn’t really mention this but u also get a lot of free credits to buy said skins in the shop, since release I got a skin and am halfway to another one fully through the f2p currency from challenges. This game really just found a way to make live service feel, less corporate, more for the player. Something other hero shooters I won’t mention leaned into, corporate monetization, and drove away most of their players because of it😂😅 hope everyone enjoys this game as much as I have🙏
all of the hero's look bad ass as fuck (and sexy) and you can tell the devs actually have a good understanding of not just the IP but what fans WANT out of the IP. From the character interactions referencing past comics, the amazing sound tracks, the comic book looking graphics and awesome looking backdrops, Marvel studios WISHES they had as much creativity and talent as these guys.
In regards to the monetization while I agree that the individual skin bundles can kinda be a bit pricey 1. It's at least bundled with some extra flair like a nameplate, spray, emote and purples and above come with MVP Animations 2. The Battle Pass is legit such a good value it's very, very hard to not grab it Like seriously, $10 for 10 skins. Like what else do you even say to a grab like that, not including the MVP animations, sprays, emotes, name plates etc.
I can relate so much to the last part of the video. I was so tired of Marvel over the years, then this game comes out, I buy a battle pass after a week of playing and started rewatching old Marvel movies with my gf. Shit's crazy how much this game rekindled not only my love for Marvel but for hero shooters as well.
The infinite battlepass is huge. No pressure to finish it means you might as well buy it. And it's just generous enough to make you feel like you got your money's worth from refunding most of the entry cost when you do play it.
19:37 one of the funniest things to me was when they teased the malice skin on the Marvel Rivals Discord and the only reacts the dev allowed for the teaser were the heart react and the peach emoji react lol thing had like 200k reacts before it got removed from game news for some reason :(
20:41 Bricky, it is an important point to understand, allot of Overwatch's success story really dérives from the fact that "Our Beloved and Talented R34 community" kept the game alive when blizzard didn't...
This game is phenomenal. Every single hero can be broken beyond belief purely based on the skill of the player playing that hero. Vice versa for someone being bad. No role queue is actually such a boon for the game as well to allow fluid team comps. Most balanced game of all time.
18:18 it goes without saying after this lunar event Marvel rivals has subverted that feeling by their events. Every event so far has had a free skin offered with it, even if you can’t afford the battle pass in the moment, you are not excluded from potential to gain customization, on top of the units that are rewarded with the events.
another thing with the team comps is that while the game pushes you towards more balanced and "normal" team comps you can still get away and do very good with weird shit like 4 tanks and 2 suports (speaking from experience)

Willingham mocap'd as a frost giant for the first Thor film and Milana Vayntrub has not only been the longtime voice of Squirrel Girl, but was planned to be her live action adaptation in the MCU itself until plans diverged.
Damn I am bricked up

Can I help
As a mantis main, anyone I come across playing mantis who kills me I can’t help but smile. I know what it’s like and I know that while I’m bummed I died, that mantis is probably overjoyed.
bricky the black panther jumping your team edit was so peak or whoever made that segment give yourself a pat on the back omg
I’ve already seen some cosplays and dang it, I’m very tempted XD
Edit:
I appreciate the support and conversation!
So you're doing it for attention not because of love or connection to a carachter? Gotcha
@ghostoflazlo Liking a character entire for their design (something that the artists put a lot of thought into) is completely fair and valid. People might call it shallow but to dismiss appreciating a design instead of personality and/or lore when ALL these things could have plenty of effort put into them is the shallow mindset.
@ghostoflazlo It's people dressing up in costumes because they like it my guy it's not that complicated.
@@spinyslasher6586 Nah, it's the other way of not complicated. They are indeed mostly doing it for attention, but there's nothing wrong with doing that because as human we tend to seek those.
@ghostoflazlo " 'I like pancakes' - 'SO YOU'RE SAYING YOU HATE WAFFLES?!?' "- ahh comment.
Weak.
I did not expect the game to be this fun, brings back the same vibes as playing TF2 or Overwatch at their prime but with so much more potential for future modes and content.
TF2 and overwatch both have much more potential for future modes, the Devs in some shape or form don't actually capitalise on it
@@TheDieselDRNKR As a tf2 fan i agree, but honestly tf2 had a good run.
the game is 17 years old, the game had its time in the spotlight and the times of its prime is gone. I'm just glad that tf2 is still remembered as the masterpiece it is instead of falling into ruin like so many other titles
@@TheDieselDRNKR ehhhhh TF2 not really, I love the game don't get me wrong, but it's almost 20 years old, to expect Valve to support a game for almost 20 years is just ridiculous honestly

Netease is also making FragPunk which drops in 4 weeks. It's gonna be absolutely insane, one of the most polished games I've ever played
on the subject of voice actors, some of these casts (specifically Liam O'Brien, Laura Bailey and Yuri Lowenthal) have been voicing these characters for years in other non-MCU marvel media. The devs knew to hire the right people for the job.
I still think, that they should have left Nolan North to voice Deadpool, like he did in the Deadpool videogame and in Marvel Vs. Capcom. It seriously fucks with my head to hear him in a Marvel game and not as Deadpool.
I mean they can do a funny and have him voice both. Which is so in character for deadpool
He voiced both Rocket and Deadpool in Ultimate Alliance 3.
He can do both, he already has done both in previous projects.
@@spinyslasher6586 indeed. Nolan North is several characters in every video game lol
Considering they've been doing nothing but tease Deadpool in the game I don't think it's out of the question to assume he'd be voicing Deadpool when they bring him in
20:25 in today's gaming scene, you can see if a game is succeeding both doing 2 tests:
1. How much R34 content there is of the game/characters "Rivals is growing extremely fast on this sector, than OW, like i was amazed by this."
2. If you can easily figure out a character just based on their silhouette of them. Like an white image and the character completely black. "Overwatch character can be easily found out like this, Tracer, Ramattra, Widowmaker, Reaper, Junkrat as examples. "In concord, you could never really figure out who's silhouette has it"
Probably the only issue with the second rule is in regards to the similarity of Dagger and Invisible Woman
The list of reasons for Concord's failure had me giving a mild but hearty chuckle
Also I've learned in my years that no game genre is ever truly dead.
@ true but it’s better to target the tank first then the squishes.
The cheesenest of this game makes it so much enjoyable, from the voice acting to the unapologetic horneness of it .
The fact Wolverine is shorter than Mantis fits the comic book accuracy haha
18:52 say that again...
You know I keep hearing these jokes, but here's the Thing....
Well, no not yet, but he will be here soon.

8:34 The duality of being able to survive soloing the entire enemy team to buy time for my team to get back where there's a coin flip whether or not I survive once they get to the point, to being erased within seconds of the enemy looking at me with my entire team backing me.
19:39 "...Say that again?"
Too many people come in with the Main Character Anime Protag syndrome.
To be fair, this is "Main Character Syndrome"-the Game
That’s just people.
Its their game, we're just living in it.
@@hpenvy1106its literally a team based game
Yeah a game with SUPERHEROES and VILLAINS will tend to also attract these kinds of people
The thing with the battlepass in this game is this: 10 skins on a $10 pass.
Something for everyone.
and you get like 6 dollars back from it, if im not mistaken
I feel Marvel went with cool costume first and not sexy first. Rocket Bounty Hunter skin is so awesome it made me want to buy the luxury battlepass.
Concerningly detailed character models
TH-cam was showing me the unedited version of your comment and I came in locked and loaded, ready to cook you bro lmao
You forgot Travis Willingham as Thor my man. 21:35
20:46 just like endgame, a shot of all the female heroes and Spiderman. That bag got me acting up
Something I feel like I should add regarding the character designs: Whoever made the executive call to include JEFF of all heroes into the game was a genius.
That Planetside reference got me hyped for no reason lmao
My man spent 26 minutes basically saying “GET GAME, IT FUN”
Hey Bricko, as an artist myself, I appreciate you crediting the Balatro artist, but remember to credit cosplayers too when you use their photos

So Marvel Rivals slid in instead"
~Fleekazoid 2024
I don’t necessarily agree with the “I wished Concord was the death nail in hero shooters”. It’s love this genre and this game is proof many people do as well. All I hope for concord to be the wake up call for is that in order to succeed in this bloated market you have to stand out, be creative, and overall play well. It’s not your CEO’s who bring in the money, it’s your developers.
That moment when bricky looks better than invisible woman
"He who controls the porn controls the market". Yeah, as a furry I can say we're responsible for the influx of rocket raccoon players into this game, and we are both sorry and welcome for it
The amount of times ive loaded up bucky and gotten a rocket, or seen a hela and switched to loki, the team ups are amazing. Special shout out to hulks who power my absolutely opressive Dr. Strange even more
Many show up for the hot characters.

you can also pretty easily get enough premium currency to go back and buy the premium battle pass that you wanted the skins from for free in a few seasons
20:25 reminds of Metal Gear Solid 4, "He who controls the Battlefield, controls History"
20:30 talking about the Horndog Theory
Not a theory it's human nature sex sells and always will 😂
I miss not being able to see the white boi :( You don’t need to change your editing style
Dude you are one of the few gamers on yt who I feel who genuinely likes the art form and community of videogames as a whole.
You can get ANY Battlepass and complete it on your time and at any point in time as long as the servers stay up
24:40
HAHAHAHAHAHAA
Oh, don't worry; the laugh is fake, but the tears are real.
Bricky:"You can rea-." "THE MOOON CALLS YOU."
My favorite part about this game is that in the comics some fights actually go like this
The placement of the Man on Fire movie poster placement had me dying lmao!
I like the way brick throw marketing on your face quickly to get to the matter quickly lol
20:20 Bricky has peered beyond the veil into the abyss and it stared back. Bricky has started his gooner arc.
Everyone is saying Jeff is Satan when it’s really Luna Snow and Mantis.
Man, Bricky spending 5 minutes on the Gooner's Gambit of making hot video game characters is not what i was expecting today.
This game is honestly doing quite a lot for Marvel. I unironically started reading some comics after years of putting it off 😭
Playing Magik led to me reading Magik stuff and then Xmen stuff.
Something other hero shooters I won’t mention leaned into, corporate monetization, and drove away most of their players because of it😂😅 hope everyone enjoys this game as much as I have🙏
21:30 THE GRUBHUB GUY AS CLOAK!
all of the hero's look bad ass as fuck (and sexy) and you can tell the devs actually have a good understanding of not just the IP but what fans WANT out of the IP. From the character interactions referencing past comics, the amazing sound tracks, the comic book looking graphics and awesome looking backdrops, Marvel studios WISHES they had as much creativity and talent as these guys.
In regards to the monetization while I agree that the individual skin bundles can kinda be a bit pricey
1. It's at least bundled with some extra flair like a nameplate, spray, emote and purples and above come with MVP Animations
2. The Battle Pass is legit such a good value it's very, very hard to not grab it
Like seriously, $10 for 10 skins.
19:37 one of the funniest things to me was when they teased the malice skin on the Marvel Rivals Discord and the only reacts the dev allowed for the teaser were the heart react and the peach emoji react lol thing had like 200k reacts before it got removed from game news for some reason :(
"Let them (supports) do damage"
Meanwhile, me as Rocket, who hasn't let go of right click in three games and not planning to start.
Another classic style Bricky video- just explanations, pngs, and funny memes… this is nostalgic
feels weird watching a bricky video with no bricky hiding his legs while on a greenscreen
