Trying to Locate an OLD HIDDEN Reservoir - How did I Miss This?

- With the help from a local viewer, I head off to Located a Hidden Reservoir. The strange thing about this location is that I had no idea this even existed, but what is even more important is that this is the source that feeds the Hidden Oasis. After taking a closer look on Google Maps, I was able to see this location and found a round about way to get to it. This turned out to be much more difficult than I imagined. After getting frustrated from riding endless trails for over 30 minutes, I decided to put up my drone to locate this elusive body of water. Little did I know, I was only a couple hundred yards away from it. So I invite you to come along with me as we located and explore this Old Decommissioned Reservoir that has been sitting abandoned for over 40 years.

I'm glad I was able to show the source of the oasis. Next on the agenda, to show the stream path between this location & the oasis. The Oasis is Finally Clear: th-cam.com/video/fYXLZi1rMCA/w-d-xo.html
Looking forward to going back : }
Is this located in Virginia??
Love kicking back after work and watching a relaxing JP nature adventure💙
Unless you have cotton mouths, u dont need to worry about non venomous watersnakes. They strike viciously if you try to catch them.
It's possible the long pipe is used for power generation. Another person up north found a dilapidated river dam and explained that the pipes are used to maintain waterflow downstream. This is so that the water isn't dispersed while going down in elevation more than the height of the dam itself allowing for the water to generate more power. I check on a 1911 map and confirmed that dam had a power station. While I can't find one on any map I've looked at for this dam if you went down steam past the secret oasis you might and I stress the word might 'eventually' stumble across the foundation of an old power station.
Well...I know you made it out safely because you were able to edit and release this awesome video ...but I sure hated leaving you there ! Couldn't have been easy getting back up on the trail leading out . You go thru a lot to bring us these adventures ! Thank you !! Really loved the drone sequence and music ! ... Can not believe how clear water is there ...amazing ! Never see that down here for sure . Gorgeous surroundings ..Looking forward to the next visit ..Always fun to explore along with you : }
This took a lot of work, especially in the era to build/incorporate. I can vision in my mind the hustle, bustle of people and the importance of this location at one time, that is all but now forgotten.
Thankyou for sharing a most attractive walk.
Amazing adventure! It's so beautiful there, that landscape is just gorgeous! Cool underwater footage, there were so many fish and neat things to see and there were some bubbles coming up from a hole in the bottom, wonder what that could have been, a snake hiding maybe! lol I agree, the water in the stream was crystal clear and it was so peaceful. Thank you for such a wonderful exploration JP!
Someone said it was a clam, I was thinking that too.
I’m so grateful for you sharing your adventure. I can’t do this kind of scrambling about any longer (arthritis etc) and I really wish I could. Cool discovery!… looks like the reservoir is silty and warmer, therefore algae. We’re those rocks slippery? The upstream water is moving, colder. So less algae.
I so thoroughly enjoy these natural explorations. And seeing these abandoned reservoirs is so cool. Great video as always. The reflection in the water are absolutely money shots all the way.
I appreciate that Adam
Wow that is incredible place. You are just a wealth of information. Thank you for your videos. I am behind I know I already said this to you a while back but I realized when I was saving videos to my watch later Playlist I am really behind watching my favorite TH-cam channels...lol...I just got home today from my cancer surgery so I am stuck in bed in a lot of pain which means I can play catch up...lol. I really do appreciate your videos because you make them interesting and informative which really helps to take a person's mind off their problems. I lost my 35 yr son in March to suicide then I came down with cancer. My life has been a whirlwind but it's nice to know I can watch one of your videos and mentally get set free for a few minutes. Thank you. ✌
Great to hear from you. Hope the surgery was a success and that you have better days ahead.
Wow, great Bike ride thanks. My calves are a little sore but Cool now this Goodness 😎 not too bad of a day. This is a total Awe. A break from all these 100+ days and Grandkids. Thank you for the Totally awesome adventure. Try to stay 😎 cool JP.
😊
That was so completely amazing! That clear stream is what got me. Wow. What a find! Thank you for sharing this and waiting for your return trip video! See you soon!
That was a great discovery, absolutely beautiful scenery and such a tranquil location. Thank you for bringing us along, you do awesome video work JP 👍☮️🇺🇲
You've got some of the best videos on yt! Ty for all your hard work and taking us all with you! ❤
Thank you for taking us along. 🤗 Needed the distraction today! Be Blessed, stay safe! 💙
@JP thank you. I love your vids, I adore the forest and can't fo this myself as I'm disabled. So watching you is so lovely. Thank you.
Aww thank you so much 💙
I love all your videos to places I could never go to at my old age. Thankfully you found what you were looking for. Nature is so beautiful. God Bless.....
This guy is another great videographer here on YT, one of the best who does not get enough credit .
That was a very nice exploration. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for stopping by to watch
Thanks!
That was really a super awesome adventure. The entire time you are walking on those high places I am holding my breath. At the end when you walk up the stream that water was so beautiful and clear. I love water flowing over Rocks, so peaceful. Love the underwater videos too. Great Video Jay, Thank you so so much. Stay Safe! Prayers for safe exploring! 🦋🙏☺️
I’m so glad I found your channel. I have not been able to do any exploring for about 12 years now, the thing with my heart keeps me from it. I love everything about your posts, I even like the squishy sound your sandals make after you walk in the water. Thanks so much for sharing!
Glad you enjoyed the video
It definitely very eerie with the cloudy water but there is lot's of wildlife
Yep dont like cloudy merky water, nope i wouldnt go in. That electric bike is cool, have to check those out. Also when its hot for awhile water gets a little stagnant, even lake erie does and the faucet water even smells little fishy.
Hi Jay, what a stunning location and it looks like not too many people make the trek down there.
I loved seeing all of the fish in the underwater shots, they were very cool.
Thank you for sharing, much love. xx❤
Fantastic location. The harder to get to places seem so much better. You don't get vast amounts of "riff-raff" to muck it up like more accessible locations. The fish I spotted were trout fry(babies), perch and bluegill. Sure signs of a healthy body of water. Once again Jay, you've took some beautiful stills and drone footage. Do be careful on your solo adventures buddy, you know that 😉. 👍🤙
Another awesome vidio.my freind.I'm 77 years young, used to do all of the things, you do ,motorcycle, atv, boats, fast, fast, cars, trucks, ladys,im lucky to be alive,I've had many, many, near death, experiences, heart attacks,,car wrecks,,motorcycle ,spills ,drounding, chokeing on food ,tick bites, dog bites, sun burned so bad ,as a adult several.times ,it made me sick, reason I had cancer spots removed from my back.brain operation.( A shunt) ,almost didn't wake up from anasteaha.when I had my teeth pulled.so I am a lucky soul.knock on wood.!!!
Very nice footage! Appreciate your eye for filming 🎥
Thanks!
Really cool little spot !! Upstream that water was so clear and clean !! Awesome little loved the drone footage those reflections in the water were amazing !! Great video as always !! 👍👍👍
Noah loves the water and seeing the fish thank you for sharing ❤❤❤ stay safe love ya
💙💙
Reflections of the clouds off the water was very pretty! 😊
Awesome discovery! Awesome adventure JP! Such a beautiful place! I bet it was really deep back in it's heyday before all the years of sediment filled it in. I wonder if it was used for the mining or was always a water source for somewhere else. It would be cool to find out where the pipe goes too! Awesome video! Thanks for bringing us along!
Great explore JP....thanks once again for sharing places we will never get to see.
I'm really enjoying your channel. You do such a great job capturing the beauty and intrigue of very interesting locations. After a very long work day it's so nice to relax and enjoy your channel. Very good filming, and also very professional looking.
God Bless You and Your Family. Also a special hello to Lilly. 🙏🙏🙏
I appreciate that. Thanks so much
Always love the underwater footage. Great detective work. Always enjoy your videos.
loved this!!! I am too fascinated by anything water and stone construction related. Thanks for sharing 😍
Hard to go wrong with those two interests
@@JPVideos81 💯 agreed!
Another interesting place, JP. Thanks for the effort you put into your videos.
Cool. That was fun! Thanks for sharing!
👍🙂🙏
: Love this exploration. Thank you for sharing these live moments. Everyone needs time to reflect. Water sounds are calming, greenery is full n green, beautiful. 💯
It's my pleasure. Thanks for watching.
Really neat J. Not only do you a lot about trains but coal mining too. You really know the area.
Great video, JP, as always. Thank you so much for creating these videos. I truly enjoy them.
💙💙
Nice spot!! Looks like it filled up with debris over the decades, must have been as deep as the dam. Follow the pipe and see where it leads to.
OK this was another GREAT explore! Was right there with you. Glad you took many precautions doing this especially with the discovery of the snake skin...water snakes are aggressive. So So Good!! Thank you for sharing and posting this one! 💧 💦
Thanks so much B. I always appreciate your feedback. This one tested my patience a bit, but the effort was worth it.
Beautiful remote area!
Pipes and water processing structures have something eerie about them. The murky water makes it eerie and mysterious at the same time!
I agree!
I love your video explorations. Just wish I knew the locations. I would like to join you sometime.
Wow the resolution is really great in those underwater parts! I was not expecting that.
That’s amazing that such a huge structure can be hidden in the remote wolf like that. Thanks for checking it out and sharing the footage with us!
Very beautiful place
Chamber appears to be an old drop structure. Dropped wood planks into those channels to control water flow rate.
Edit:
(You later confirmed this with the pipe in the chamber. Funny thing is today in stormwater design we use the same theories/methods just tweaked slightly.)
Get a GPS Mount on your bike.
Awesome video and beautiful location! Very interesting video too. Kept getting more and more exciting with every find! 👍🏻
💙
Very cool explore! Of course, loving the underwater shots. That is quite a place!
Was a pleasant surprise seeing the aquatic wildlife. Thanks for checking out the adventure
Beautiful stream of water, excellent video JP. 👍👍👍👍
Thanks so much
Captivating Jason. I just love it!! Thank you for sharing my friend! 👍❤️
💙💙
Awesome! Definitely follow the pipe next time. The path is pretty great and has some nice little stone overhangs and water pools. There's also another waterfall right after the bend.
Also, upstream from that res is a small "tubs" Smooth rock pools and glacial holes. APW does keep an eye on that spot though.
At the swimming hole right now. Honestly, can't get enough of this place and the little secrets it has to offer.
Have you ever thought about taking a sample of the water for testing or taking a kit with you? I'd be interested in seeing the results of some of these reservoirs.
Ty jp great work
Looks like you found the grate were the water enters the pipe as well as some fish, awesome adventure!!!
You're a lucky dog having an area like that to explore! Where I live our water is a nice 💩 brown lol. I used to live in Michigan and the clearest water I seen there was in a big spring called kitchitkipe or something like that, and Torch lake. Anyways, cool area you are exploring, can't wait to see more!!!
Loving the underwater video.
A little minno trivia. They're are many many varieties and most are not small versions of larger fish, they stay that size and ... in Scotland they are called Sparny Tickles! Wade out nekid on a hot day above your waist and be still. Before long why the scots name them that may become more apparent. ;-)
Those fish with the stripes on them look like perch. :)
Congratulations on 180K subscribers !! Well done !!👍
I'm so glad you took us along on this adventure. Beautiful area that makes for some great pictures and video. I was wondering what the air bubbles coming out of the hole were from. Either some animal that was under there or was it the source of the cloudiness. The reflection of the clouds on the water was really nice.
If you were out there on one the hot days we've had, I bet you were really enjoying the cold water in the source. Glad you made it back out safely. You'll have to let us know which way you decided to go to get out.
Was wondering about those bubbles too…🤔
I think it was a clam or mussel
You always find such interesting places to explore awesome job Jay👍👍
This one would of passed by my radar if it wasnt for the help of a viewer. I'm glad I was able to share it with everyone.
@@JPVideos81 Glad you found it
Those grooves in the concrete structure most likely held a couple of large steele doors that were attached by a lever/pully system that would allow the dam owner to control the flow of the water.
Thanks for the additional info on that shaft structure.
JP some great views of the area and a good little area. 👍🏻 it was worth the avenger there. Thank you for sharing and have a good week 👋
Some info on the dam , what coal company built it, and where the pipe went to. That would be good. A view of the sign by the gate would give clues, but I imagine you don't want folks to know. When I lived near Reading Pa, we had a motorized canoe, we explored the many dams built on the Schuylkill river in coal country to catch the coal dust in the river which was clogging it. They dredged the dams built and pumped the impoundment residue to the side, piles of coal dust along the river bank.
I'm hoping to follow the pipe in a future video. The sign was shot up, but said about dangers of the dam. Thanks for checking out the video.
I really enjoyed this exploration. Thanks.
Be careful with the 🐍
Beautiful place and the water so clean
I think that 'chamber' contained sluice gates to control the flow of water.
All I can say is wow!!!!!!!! Thank you sooooooooooooooooo much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you for an exceptional adventure. Especially as some who gets claustrophobic and panics in the woods lol I appreciate the opportunity to hike along via You Tube with you.
Thanks for joining me
Awesome aerial view of cloud reflection on the water @33:26
Cool bike.
I saw a clam bubbling from under the silt. 😂 Gorgeous hills and creeks up there!! You are very fortunate to be able to go there! Enjoy!
I was thinking a clam or mussel. Wonder how deep they live?
how in the hell are your videos NOT in my newsfeed now? I had to actually look your channel up! I just wanted to see the beautiful things God made.
ths well could have been a mill pond water storage and regulating flow was the only means of water based manufacturing and of course grinding grain mill ponds assured steady flows and speeds for saw mills ,grain grinding, and even shoe manufacturing ...these were likely very near the canal systems as well for shipping out the finished products
It was a popular swimming hole back when I was in high school during the late 80’s and early 90’s and the water level was much higher back then.
My guess on the fence is that it was to help prevent people from falling down the hill, into the water, but I'm no expert. It just looked, from what I could see, as though you couldn't tell the water was there from behind the fence but to either side of where it ends, you can see it.
Very nice! Do you have Cottonmouths in your area? Watch the tree branches hanging over the water!
Nice looking Perch and Bluegills! Great video! Thanx!
Yes we do
nice adventure JP ...
What a FIND! 🤗
Thanks for the video JP definitely a beautiful place to be, plenty of fish 🐟 in there too. What has happened to your Patron channel 🤔 please!!😎🐟🐟🐟🐍🐍🇬🇧🇺🇦
I announced last month (patreon post)that it was ending. It's now closed.
@@JPVideos81 will definitely still follow you regards Chris 😊
Hello from Ohio there is two resavors here that was for crooksville Ohio and an upper and lower and some ago time ago the last couple or three years they completely drained them and now they are abandoned
At 17:30, I agree with other comments that is is probably some type of sluice to control water flow or height, with gates that were raised or lowered with some type of pulley system.
Loving these hidden watering holes types of adventures 💦☀️❤️ I live in FL near Sebastian... I would love to find/see locations like these near me but I don't think anything like these gems are here lol
I love exploring them. Too bad you don't have spots like this down there.
Oh my gosh are u fricken kidding beautiful place ❤❤❤❤
Heck yeah it is!
I got to film A abandoned power plant few days ago great find
Fantastic video JP thanks it's a place you just want to stay and leave the world behind
Wow the fish were great 👍🏻 looked like maybe rock bass or crappie or perch and some sun fish in the dam it’s self… now here’s another quest for you… where do the pipes go to down steam???
Great video Jp, Are you every afriad that your bike will get stole for being out that long with out seing it.
I had it locked up next to the tree
enjoyed the adventure...😁
you do find some interesting places, kind of looks like the reservoir is filling up with stone etc.
We used to dive off the wall that goes around the chamber. Water was much, much deeper then. The islands were under water.
Hi JP love the video. It's like I am exploring with you. Just a quick question or two. 1) what kind of bike are you riding and is it electric? 2) was this a whole day adventure? 3) what ki d of camera do you use? Glad you got back ok..
I was riding the Hiboy P6 (I did a review on it on my channel). I used the dji osmo action and galaxy s10+ in this video and it was done within a few hours.
Great video as usual jp.I don't like going into water when I can't see clearly eather.
Can you imagine when you get a good rain? Dangerous for kids. Stay safe.
At the 25:17 seconds nice cannabis indica plants in the background, under the acorn 🎄.
Is there any gold where your at!??
awesome video!
My guess? It's getting hotter and hotter out. I bet more and more locals are out swimming. If you come back when it's sprinc or at least just the very beginning of summer, if my hunch is correct, the water should be clearer.
Thanks I enjoyed watching awesome video 👍
