  • My name is Sam, and I am a dad of two lovely daughters, Helen and Sarah. I think every parent agrees that asking kids to practice piano is not always fun. To change the piano learning atmosphere in the house, I decided to learn piano with my daughters. I started with zero experience. My target was to learn 100 pieces. I completed my goal in 4 years. This video is to record my learning progress.
Please subscribe my channel if you like my idea. Thanks!

Hey Sam, I highly recommend to get kown with the concept of playing with arm weight (search piano arm weight here at youtube and watch different videos on this topic). You will learn how to walk on keys and play more economical. In most cases the weight does not come from a single finger stroke but from the arm weight where the fingers just do the micro movement to transfer the weight. You may consider to sit a little bit higher, too, to achieve a straight line from elbow to hand as the default position. Best regards from Germany.

I will be 4 years into piano this spring and found this because I’m wondering if I’ve made good progress or not. I still don’t know! Anyways what a gift to have your daughter learn with you. I tried but none of my three daughters were interested in learning to play.

I taught my 3 sons to play piano. This brings back such good memories. I think it's also important to note how long it took you to get to where you are. I constantly get the question from adults: How long is it going to take before I can play like ... - 4 years is a great answer. They want the answer to be 4 months. Bravo to you! Definitely continue to play. Never stop learning . (Subscribing so I can keep up with your progress.) 😊

Thanks Jean for your encouragement. My new goal is to learn another 100 pieces. It may take me 8 more years. I will make another video for that. Haha

@@dadlearnspiano8912 Nah... One might think that as the songs get harder it will take longer to learn them. Paradoxically, when you think about it, every new skill is built upon the ones that came before and thus your new pieces are just as hard to you now as the first ones were to you then. Your brain can't tell the difference. You'll see... 4 years, not 8. Lol

Great progress, great inspiration too! Hat off salute to your dedication and love for your daughters -- this is true "lead(love) by example". I also started taking formal lessons so that I can teach/practice with my boy. Subscribed.

Great work! I am new adult learner? How much time did you spend a day practicing? And did you increase your training time gradually over the years or just did it same consistently throughout? Oh and looking forward to your future progress. I especially enjoyed the piece where you had four hands, lol. 🤣

Me personally, i recommend memorising 3 or 4 notes from both thr bass or g clef. Be able to identify them quickly. And then use the interval method to find the other notes. I believe it may be called the landmark system. For example, you read a note that is 3 spaces above the D note which you have memorised and therefore you can figure out what it is. Idk if that makes sense. You can use pneumonics but in my opinion, as you advance, pneumonics become less helpful. These are great videos to watch:
