I'm definitely going to try this on my car. Somebody sprayed adhesive to put fabric on the Plastics and I'm trying to get that off so hopefully this will work.😊

Great advice. I watch a shoe cobbler that uses this often. He has a small steel oil “squirt can” that he uses to separate the glue on shoe repairs.

Odorless mineral spirits is great stuff. I works great as a general purpose degreaser as well. It has a very high flash point so it is very safe. But it does have a couple drawbacks. As it ages it oxidizes and starts to stink so keep your supply clean. Don't pour back used thinner. Also do not use near standing pilot lights like on old school furnaces, water heaters and stove. The combusted fumes stink awful and the byproducts are corrosive to the pilot gas orifice.

Back in the day of vinyl tops we used gasoline to remove glue too. Lol

I wrap duct tape around my hand and pat the area gently, repeatedly. The duct tape pulls the glue off without harming vinyl, leather, or paint. If its a stubborn area I'll change the tape out 2 or 3 times.
Hello Smoove, I can see that. How well does the duct tape work if you need to remover contact adhesive from glue soaked fabric? I wouldn't know as I have never thought of trying that. Please keep liking and watching!
@@oldschoolautoupholstery I just use this method for overspray, glue drips, or if I accidentally touch something Im working on with glue on my hands. If the material is really soaked, then the mineral spirits will be the best as you showed here. Love your vids!

I've been using lighter fluid to clean up contact cement it works well on vinyl

Thank you! My problem is the adhesive over spray got on a thin bowdrill fabric (liner for header in jaguar). What can i use to remove it from that thin material that will not discolor it? Thank you!

Would this be a good way to clean the inside of the spray gun after you spray glue? Or would it be easier to just have a cheap gun designated for glue only?
Hello Fox, I bought a cheap HF spray gun only for this purpose for like $28. The only time I have had to clean the inside was when I let the level get too low, then in the heat, the glue at the bottom got too thick so I had to clean it out. With the mineral spirits, the glue just rolls right out. Please keep liking and watching!

Hello Joe, Thank you so much! If you are gluing two soft things together like foam to foam or foam to material, there is no waiting. If you are glued to something hard like metal or hard plastic, give it a solid five minutes of drying time before putting together. Please keep liking and watching!

Hello Brad, I get this question a lot but the answer is always the same, I don't know... I use the stock tip that comes with the cheapo $28 Harbor Freight spray gun. Works every time. Please keep liking and watching!
Awesome thankyoui,,,, I notice you dont have the little clear vent hose on your spray gun, does it work better without the little hose? Wont glue dry up inside? Thanks for all you do
Hello Miguel, You are so welcome! That is one of my habits, taking off the clear hose. I don't exactly know why... The only way the glue changes inside if it is not used regularly or if it is very hot outside. Please keep liking and watching!
