To help pull off new skins from your skis (especially on warm spring days) or to pull apart new sticky skins (and no skin saver) that are a bit fat with no skunk stripe down the center of the glue side, I add a one inch or so strip of duck tape full length down the middle of the skin glue side to eliminate some of the glue hold surface area so that pulling them off is not so hard. Later, as the skin loses some of its stickiness , one can pull the duck tape off and have some newer glue down the center that was preserved by the tape, to help hold them on better for a while before having to re-glue them. The wider one makes the duck tape strip the less hard the skin is to pull off.
Hated those G3 clips, kicked them off all the time. Now use Skimo style tips, no tail. As long as you keep the tail well glued it works fine. So quick to rip.
Keeping the tail well glued works if you're willing to work at it. I never was, but do remember not bothering with tail hooks when skis were skinnier. Having the tail hook also adds extra security if you do the tail jam on a switchback.
While I do like how much easier they make it to peel your skins apart, skin sheets are NOT fun to deal with when it is 10 F degrees and blowing like crazy! In those situations, the fewer things I have to deal with while my gloves are off the better!
I'm with Mike and John. Having a technique to deal with difficult glue means you don't need to keep track of another fiddle factor. Never liked ski savers but do see their value with extra wide skins. That's part of why I don't like extra wide skis - they require wider skins that beg for skin savers.
I’ve lost about 10 Black Diamond tail clips., until I decided to change my tails. They are expensive and more importantly can ruin your skin day. As I see it, it’s just a wrong design.

G3 makes a great aftermarket tail hook system for twin tips similar to their tip attachment that fits on most tail elastics.

coloWEEDo. haha. never heard that one before
The minimal effort of skin savers is so much easier than yanking apart glue-to-glue skins. Why would anyone not use them?
I only use skin savers for long term storage. On the hill it’s just one more thing to loose
