Nothing quite says 'French ship' like quad turrets and a tumblehome hull. And that funnel placement! Oh yes, a truly 'magnifique' ship refit!
Easily my favourite refit ever. If he hadn't done it I'd have been super disappointed 😂.
I like to think that the bureau of ship design as a whole is working on the new designs, properly making ships with the new hulls, and only left the oldest engineer (who's by now senile and has frequent hallucinations) and the newest (unpaid) intern to work on the refits.

At this point with the sheer amount of refits these ships go through, they are essentially super modular lego ships where they just bolt parts on where they want them.

Actually making a smaller dreadnought would make sense considering the size of the French over seas territory you have. The navy would likely need and want to go for many smaller ships they can distribute all over the place rather than a few larger ships that can only be in a few places.

When you see Frankenships, as a French, I see normal French ships ! And more ships are weird, better it is ! For me, the best turret arrangement is big quadruples on A and B, and a lot of secondaries ! Two front turrets only is very efficient for protecting the ship.

How about that variant of modernization of "Lyon": remove middle turret with main guns (it is turret X in Britain?🤔), add one more battery of triple 155-s in the empty place (because now it looks a bit weird without guns), and change main guns to quads. More secondaries + 8 main guns (instead of 6) P.S. the empty place I mentioned are those round installations (or how are they called?🤨) for secondaries.

You could have dropped one of the funnels on the Aspirant Herber to fit the Quad Torp Launcher, as you had more than enough Engine Efficiency. That also would've allowed for you to make the citadel a bit more compact, but I'm uncertain how much that would effect the stability of the ship.

For the Indomptable, the aft funnel placement offers a potential solution for gun placement... Build a Dunkerque-style battleship:
Place both quad 260mm turrets forward (use a barbette if possible), place the towers, and place the funnel. Mount secondaries to cover the aft.
They may look, say, comical, but if it works, it works.
Also, perhaps you could also try redesigning some of your ships' towers? They may help boost some stats, although the decision may be determined by what this kind of refit will trade off.
The smaller dreadnought design though, I think while it may be a step back in size, still may be relevant and useful, given the size and distance of your overseas colonial holdings. It might work as a sort of main battle line for your colonial fleets alongside your ageing pre-dreadnought and dreadnought battleships.
As for the large cruiser, would definitely want more of them if that would be my fleet. Their specifications and design looks promising and may have the potential to perform better than your current battlecruisers in their specialized role as cruiser hunters and support ships.

The Frankenstein ship, when you're told you have to update a hull that's older than you to carry modern turrets and test the new quadruple turrets for the French navy. Well, it will never see combat. It's old. it is a testbed ship now. It's old. Thinks the refit designer not knowing that the admiral is from the imperium of man and throw everything, including the sink at people.
You've gone round the bend mate. This was a very interesting video. Glad to see you finally downsizing funnels and # of as you modernize. Limiting yourself to no retiring or selling of your old ships is a big hindrance after all. Causing you to maintain more ship than usual.
I like how the Cosmaos now outgun all of your older heavy cruisers lol, it might be worth adopting a 180mm gun or something for the heavy cruisers in question so that that isn't the case
Just say no to 80mm guns.

While the cursedness of the Indomptable refit is incredible, I'm kind of hoping that somehow, further down the line, they at least get their funnels in a reasonable place.

Brother munro i think on your older ship lengthening and widening them would be a better option. Also this is my opinion if the developer's are using real blueprints for the turrets. The reason the fit issue come into play is the gun recoil area increases with the increase is size
Lengthening by adding displacement unfortunately isn't an option. Broadening the beam would've been much more sensible than what happened. The OP stabilization tanks in this mod make silly design decisions viable. I recognize the need for this change, it makes insane AI designs viable as well.

The facilities at Moskalvo are being refurbished to support a Station navale.

The main magazine carries a balanced standard load of standard sized 50% Base Fuze HE and 50% improved ballistic capped AP shells using Cordite Low Burn as the propellant and TNT High Mixture as the bursting charge. The secondary battery is three triple turrets bearing 155mm/45 Mark 4 guns with 180mm face, 80mm top, and 80mm barbette HADIR Advanced Cemented armor. A tertiary battery consists of six quadruple 50mm/45 Mark 4 gun mounts in the superstructure. The secondary and tertiary magazines carry an HE heavy standard load of standard sized 62.5% Base Fuze HE and 37.5% improved ballistic capped AP shells.
HADIR Advanced Cemented armor is clade 400mm on the main belt, 100mm on the extended belt, 100mm on the 1st inner belt, 50mm on the 2nd inner belt, 200mm on the main deck, 100mm on the extended deck, 100mm on the inner deck, 100mm on the superstructure, and 420mm on the conning tower. The Class has a double bottom hull, water tight hatches and reinforced bulkheads separating normal compartmentation, counter-flooding systems, improved pumps and piping for flooding reduction, and extended double layer anti-torpedo bulges. A crew of 1355 officers and enlisted men will be provided standard quarters. The class carries Radio Direction Finding (RDF) systems.
The class will consist of the lead ship Faucon, Marguerite du Ponant, Grand Anglais, and Dunkerque. Build time will be 23 months with a commissioning time of 3 months. Cost per ship will be $511,967,500, and monthly maintenance in port of $19,454,760
Your problem with the 155 turrets could have been solved by using 127/130mm turrets instead

1:50:18: As you can tell from the timing of this comment I've been only getting to recording the refit data lately, but I've noticed you sometimes do the component upgrades including upgrading the armor scheme, the Citadel I to V, late then don't go down and tweak the inner layers.

The Corps d'armée de Chine has ended the warlord regime in Shanghai and Hangzhou in Eastern China with its provinces of Jiangsu, Anhui, Zhejiang, Henan, and Hubei. With the exception of the Japanese protectorate in Weihaiwei and the territory of Manchuria the Troisième République now controls all of historic China.

Have you guys considered reworking the stuff for Austria-Hungary in your mod? A lot of their gun turrets are ridiculously heavy for them early on, and often times aren't too well fitting... and, they hardly get any battleship hulls in the mod before dreadnoughts. And the german small gun mounts stick out a lot, too. Still, wonderful mod, and thank you guys for your efforts!

No they’re just quite heavy so they tend to be a ‘nice to have’
could've you have replaced the Jeane'darcs doubles with triples, to shortern the citadel (as compared to the act refit), increase fire power, and enable you to pop a triple 155 where the "x" turret was, and have a wing pair just behind the "b" turret?
I think that the reason why the 50 mm guns got changed to 51 mm is becauce it a to small change in inches? So the game increase it to the closest round caliber. Like in the desinger it’s a -0.7. Convertion error basicaly.
Also insteat of increasing speed, could’ve you give them triple hull bottom?

Can also say they wore down their rifling due to years of heavy use.

The Corps d'armée de Chine has ended the warlord regime in Xinjiang Province. Though ethnically related to the Han Chinese, the Uyghurs majority are Muslim, and welcome the French policy of indigenous religious liberty and restricted proselytization.
This is one of the reasons the Troisième République is allied to both Arabia and the Ottoman Empire.
Could just commit to battlebarge with center superfireing turret and aft superstructure.

And for what atrocity "Indomitable" became, it should be renamed to "Gwynplaine"🤔 or to "Meme"
Well, I guess when you've GOT to keep ships shenanigans happen. May I now ask for this with other nations too then? Because there's now a guarantee of shenanigans in the late game with all those various hulls. Also I suppose you'll fix the 2 inch gun not getting it's mark 4 and 5 till later for some reason?

Gotta ask. How much difference does ship range actually make? My uninformed observation is 'absolutely zero' since logistics are completely abstracted.
It affects mission generation. In addition your ships can run out of fuel in battle if you have very low range

You know what would make those garbage cruiser hulls with the cutouts better? Seaplanes and seaplane launchers. Its what the aft raised portion is for.
