As a final note, I would like to add that I don't think the bonsai at the end of the video is the same one from the beginning.

I got a rug juniper a while ago. Kept it outside it full sun like I thought I should. Pruned off too much I think or something and it died :( Have a dwarf jade and a ficus bonsai now that seem to be doing fine
You shouldn't cut any branches if you plant is weak, dont water the soil heavily if your substrate holds a lot of water! Also styling is for your liking, it shouldn't be a ball just cuz a video said so

Yeah, you also need bonsai soil (preferably lava rock ,pumice & akadama soil mix or even Turface clay soil mix if you wanna go to cheaper route ,you- know the stuff usually used as cat litter but never use cat litter products look up the name as shown call turface because that tree not gonna work in regular dirt 😂 it could cause root rot in the future if you don’t use this type of method for the overall health of the tree….🌴
Focus trees can tolerate high heat they’re subtropical/ tropical trees if the leaves became crunchy you probably didn’t water it enough or watered it way too much which makes the leaves yellow and mushy if it’s gone a long time without leaves it’s most likely dead if anything put it in the shade outside and water it depending on the soil used if it’s little pebbles water it every day if it’s like regular dirt water it when the first inch of soil becomes dry you never want the roots to dry out or it dies but there could be many factors on why it became that way

Most stores that sell plants sell ficus bonsai like the one in the video. If you get a different tree species make sure to do research bc these tips do not apply for all bonsai and especially not for the outdoor bonsai(which most bonsai trees are.)

You should try it again if you’re up for the commitment it’s a beautiful hobby but you have to be very committed to them and it becomes addictive once you know what you’re doing and why you did it bonsai isn’t a decoration it’s more of a hobby but it’s a very peaceful and fun one at that

Don't do that. Don't cut your bonsai every month. At max twice a year. Develop the tree. Develop branches and a canopy. There is no such thing as an indoor bonsai. All trees need natural sun. Bring tropicals outdoor in the late spring until early autumn.

I find repotting certain species helps speed up growth. Gives the roots a wee boost.
