Despite all the comments, this movie was never banned anywhere except North Korea where virtually everything is banned.
Major movie theatres didn't show this because of a threat of attacks on the theatres.
Independent chains did show this.

The lyrics may be original, but otherwise that's a real thing.
If you think about it, that was the filmmakers telling the audience that jokes aside, they were taking the subject matter seriously.

fun fact Dave Skylark was partially based on the way James Franco's character was originally written for This Is the End and Eminem wrote his own lyrics for the rap in his interview.

Oh my goodness. Oh my goodness. Oh my goodness. I can’t believe someone is actually reacting to this movie. I have been wanting to suggest this movie with various reactors for a long time and I just never got around to it, but I am so glad my favorite twin reactors are reacting to the interview.
This is a movie similar to Borat in that when it was over, I was bent over because my sides hurt from laughing so hard because it was so wrong on so many levels and I loved every damn second!
Borat actually wrote some of the jokes cos Seth asked him (sascha baron cohen that is)
A while ago there was a documentary called Inside North Korea. A doctor was invited to perform cataract surgery on a select number of people, and a documentary crew posed as the doctors helpers while filming everything they could.
Context note: when I say a while ago, I mean this was back when Kim Jung Il was the leader.
The patients admitted to them that the worst thing about being blind is not being able to see their leader.
And when the surgeries proved successful? They thanked their leader instead of the doctor.
Yeah, there's a lot of leaders on the West who want that kind of cult, too.

You guys really need to watch the show Freaks and Geeks if you haven’t already. It’s only 18 episodes but it’s what’s gave James Franco and Seth Rogen their start. There’s so many other famous people in that show that also got their start.
Bought this right at release digitally on my Xbox. Came out around Christmas and what a present it made for me and the buds as we watched it.

The actual interview scene in this movie had no right to go as hard as it did. It was such a curveball it hits HARD. Comedy actors really can do drama well when they want to.

The first night it was available in the US I was on a church trip in 8th grade, and we were so bored. I took out my Kindle and rented this.

I saw this on Christmas Day when it had its (limited, cuz of threats from N.K) theatrical release. Everyone in the audience was so locked in and laughed the entire time, great experience
I got a suggestion for two movies for y'all Chris and Curtis if y'all haven't seen them already the first one is Team America which has Kim Jong Un's father Kim Jong IL as a villain and the second movie is the 2009 Inglorious Bastards

I remember when they first released this they were hesitant about releasing it because the Koreans totally hated it it was almost banned. But I'm glad they released it I saw it day one in theaters and everyone were laughing their butts off.
Banned where? No one cares if North Korea is offended.
Still happy we got to see this movie (on home release and streaming) but I really wish we could’ve seen it theaters, I know for fact if I did everyone in the the would be laughing their asses of lol. Definitely an underrated comedy!
This movie was released on digital release on most major platforms instead of a theatrical release since it almost started a war, haha. The stupid thing is that it's no more silly about the enemy dictator than a movie like Hot Shots: Part Deux is. But North Korea needed to flex...

At the time there was a lot of heat from North Korea saying that this movie was offensive and should be banned around the world. This was the quote from their news:
"The Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), the state news agency of North Korea, reported that their government promised "stern" and "merciless" retaliation if the film was released."
I find it hilarious because Sony just ploughed this movie everywhere at that time and it make the top 10 on IMDB for a few weeks, just to rub salt in the wound. There were also tons of memes around at the time too which were hilarious.

Their movies together were always good. Rogen has said he wont work with Franco anymore though after Franco got cancelled in 18 or 19.

24:00 - 24:11 those handful of frames and seconds are specifically what caused the outrage and controversy with North Korea and Sony. They found the movie to be disrespectful, but the image of Kim's death was deemed unforgiveable and labeled under one of their nations highest crimes of direct threat to their leader. North Korea not only hacked Sony but "attacked" Franco and Rogen on social media bot accounts with threats as well.

I had an extreme and weird reaction to this film when it came out. I've been kind of avoiding it since then. Seeing it now, I don't know exactly why that was the case. Maybe because it was like watching it with you two.
