Moreover attachment to anything (things, people, situations) invariably causes suffering. For example, there is nothing inherently bad about owning a BMW M6 or having nice things. What caused you to suffer was your attachment to the BMW and what it represented, and attachment to your identity as a nosebleed-stakes poker player. You are not your things, your vacations, or your status as an elite poker player. You are merely the consciousness that observes your life. It's a powerful concept. It's instructive to watch you navigate your life's path. Cheers!

This is the video that inspired me to add another tactic to my game: When I start feeling the classic "I have to get that money back"... I close the poker tables, turn on my xbox, play a high-energy game that I'm really really good at (gears of war comes to mind), feel like a badass again in minutes, and then, when I'm good and ready, go back to my computer, much different than before. The trick is to actually do it. This tactic is especially effective if you fall into the trap of feeling like a loser when you were, for example, up $140 but now you're only up 80.
this video is what I went through the last 7 years...the high was so high and the low was so well not so low, but I did walk away from the game for a full year until i can fall inlove with it all over again. coming back to the game i fell inlove with years ago is all so fun!
Great advice. I've so been there in business. Losing a ton of money really messes with your head. For me, huge guilt and a loss of confidence were my main problems. I had a weird version of almost "financial PTSD." Thankfully, I've been able to come back and I'm so much stronger for having my set-back. Making a lot of money when you're young is almost always a recipe for a painful lesson. Thanks.
Very good vid. Motivates me more. I work in the West Texas oil field, my home is in Fla, very hard to get to a casino, Congress won't let us play on line, SOMEONE HELP CONVINCE THEM PLEASE, but i go when I can. I got the itch!
This is actually also a great video to watch when one feels good too for continued motivation, in my opinion, since success can often scatter the organized mind more than failure.
Thanks for the video Alec, when you talked about stepping away, it made me think about Covid cause I don’t think I’m made for online. It would be good to walk away for now until live games are back...not side games with mask wearers, I’m referring to WPT tournaments against hundreds of players. Made me think about hitting the books and studying poker until live games are back.
