- He is the tallest man to ever play in the NBA at 7'7", but Romanian, Gheorghe Mureșan is also one of the most endearing characters we've had in the league. Identified at a young age by his dentist for his physical attributes, Gheorghe took up the game in his native Romania and the sport saw him move to French Basketball powerhouse Pau Orthez, before he was drafted by the Washington Bullets in 1993. While his height was always a talking point, Gheorghe made it his mission to be known for his basketball prowess and his dedication to the game was rewarded with the Most Improved Player award in 1996 and a trip to the playoffs the following year. His time in the NBA was short, but his impact was everlasting.

The coolest thing about these foreigners is their overall attitude and appreciation for the opportunity to play in the NBA. Way different than other players who talk too much
Completely different mentality. Europeans (and Africans) are LUCKY to be in the league due to their freak size. Americans have been trained since children and taught to think they are the very best at every level. Take a look at luka doncic who is a euro brought up around the game like Americans are…. He certainly isn’t meek or respectful.
First time Ghita watched basketball on T.V. was in national team training 💣💯🔥quite a life story...

I am one of the people from Romania who at 14 ,woke up every Friday at 3 o’clock in the morning to watch Big Ghitza playing against the best players in the history of basketball… Shaq,Hakeem,Patring Ewing,Carl Malone,Jordan,Mutombo,Sean Kemp,Regie Miller…
I felt so blessed that I could seen Muresan being so competitive with this players …
What an example of humanity ,modesty and hard working person !!!!!
Although I'm from Hungary, I still consider Gheorghe as my idol in basketball and also my favorite NBA player

@@A.Dude. Well, there is nothing pointless, given that Hungarian officials are a**holes. For example, there's an extradition request that Romania placed years ago for a certain Hungarian citizen that should be brought to justice here for almost killing a Romanian dude in the interethnic clashes in 1990, in Tg-Mures. The Hungarian authorities never complied with that request. However, that citizen owns a beverage company that keeps exporting its products to Romania. I am not even going back to what happened in the 1940s... P.S. I do not have anything against the Hungarian people. However, they - and us Romanians as well - are somehow a mirror of their political leaders. By action or non-action.

I was born in Seattle in 1973, where I grew up. Sonics and Blazers fan. Japanese-American. I LOVED Gheorghe Muresan! When healthy, had some nice offensive skills. And, he seems like a great human being. Gheorghe Muresan Cologne: Ya, Chicks dig it!

What a really nice person.
If it wasn’t for injuries which unfortunately were bond to happen due to his height. He’d been a star player.
He was getting better and better each year with his highest ppg being 14.5 with 10rpg. At 24.
He really wasn't that bad and certainly had a lot more talent than Manute Bol. But suffered the same fate almost all super-giants in the NBA (except for Shawn Bradley) suffer from, short careers due to knee and foot problems.
Best season averaging 15 and 10 is definitely very decent especially for a guy that big which mostly can't do anything but block shots
I remember seeing the Pau Orthez team at the CDG airport once. There come the Gadou brothers - I am like these guys are huge..6-8, 6-9. Then comes Ghita, dwarfing the other giants, it was incredible. Almost super human.
Muresan is the only player I know who had success in the NBA with gigantism. His parents were average height but he had a pituitary growth issue. Mark Eaton, Manute Bol, Yao Ming and Boban M are all naturally tall. There have been players 7'7 to 8'0 at college and International level but not the NBA. Muresan was very athletic and mobile for such a person.
The only tall player to actually be good in the NBA too, others came in and we're nothing but shot blockers. Muresan was dropping 14 points double double, wish he could play more...
@@mailman5043 Him and Yao were both very good in my opinion. Strong as hell but still worked hard to improve their skillset and footwork. Rik Smits wasn’t as tall but he made his mark too

Probably not that tall ..my dad is just below 6 feet. And I'm 6 feet 7 inches tall..but my grandfathers and my great- grandfather were all between 6 feet 2 inches to 7 feet tall.

He barely cant walk anymore, playing basketball for so long time with all this injuries is not healthy for tall guys. Same with Dirk Nowitzky, he is disabled now... Why this is never in the videos? My dad is 84, he is much more healthy in his age than these Big Man beeing 40 years younger than him---
