I believe that M/Y Loon has 2 chase boats. They keep this one in Ft. Lauderdale when they are in the Med. The one they have for the Med is different, and they have video's on TH-cam putting the Chase boats into storage. The Med chase boat is a Anvera 48.
Yes M/V Loon is very present on social media and they talked about how when the left the med for their crossing they stored their boat there and had another in Ft Lauderdale their home in the US.
Hi. Loon doesn't transport its chase boats from the med to the Caribbean and back. They have one chase boat for the med, and another for the Caribbean. They store them locally off-season. They have talked about this in their channel multiple times... Sad to see something like this happen. Hope they can all recover and go back to normal soon
I’d wait for any official investigation findings before jumping to conclusions. Yes they had been to their Christmas celebrations, however any manner of mechanical failures or irregular instances may have occurred. Sometimes we can’t see semi submerged debris especially at night for example. Another thing I noticed, was the track on the tender AIS data en route to Nikki beach shows the tender having passed over the land already. Obviously this had not occurred on the outbound trip. It is not uncommon for out GPS/AIS to be out for various reasons. Not an excuse as a radar would accurately highlight the land, although if following a chart plotter alone with inaccurate GPS data you could see how this may occur. Main thing is a full recovery of anyone harmed in this event.
Kind of surprises me . Crew of the loon seemed to have their act together . Paul clarke has a 3000 ton master , so its suprising to hear that he was at the helm . They have yet to acknowledge it on their channel
Is it confirmed who was driving? If was Paul, he's the boss so it makes sense he'd be the designated driver, instead of assigning that job to one of his subordinates.
@lesmoor001 roger that . Doesnt bode well for the loon brand or paul clarkes future as a superyacht charter captain . If there was a serious injury due to him driving recklessly or intoxicated that could potentially lead to criminal charges or even put his license in jeopardy. Loon has been for sale for the last year , i suspect we are probably looking at a price drop in the near future . Kind of too bad , i really enjoyed the my loon youtube channel , but even with a new crew/captain , it will be a hard thing for the owner to recover from . Jmo
According to the french local newspaper the boat hit several buoys before ending on the rock. Also, one person refused to be tested for alcohol & drugs...
I don't believe a cause has been confirmed for the Tender crash? I can't escape the stupidity of the internet Toadies quick to lay blame (with no immediate knowledge) at the helmsman's feet.
Loon has 2 chase boats. One for the MED and one for the Carribean . They put each chase boat into storage when Loon is not in the respective cruising area .
Great job as always sir. Thanks for continuing to bring us great content. I hope you had a Merry Christmas, with hope that you have a wonderful New Year. Thanks for sharing.
I’m really disappointed about the fact Loon is obviously removing comments and questions regarding their chase boat incident on St. Barth. I mean come on, they put themselves out in publicity and now what, trying to cover up a truly serious incident hospitalizing 6 individuals. Absolutely the least I would have expected from M/Y Loon. Thank you so much for your work, happy holidays.
Consistent with them getting angry at esysman mentioning the name of the owner. Also, it is wise for them to not comment themselves - anything they do say can and will be used in the inevitable lawsuits following this incident.
I don’t believe anyone involved would be making comments regarding what happened since there will be an investigation. Also we don’t yet know what the cause was.
Thank you for answering my question about the solar panels. On a side note, it would be right up your alley to explain the use of solar panels systems on a boat like this, meaning this type of vessel in general and from a technical perspective. When they introduced this boat it did not appear to have solar panels (or as others have said, Starlink). It's possible that they were covered up at times, but if so, why? (From a technical perspective). If they were retrofitted, what would cause someone to install something like that on a one year old and $2m vessel? My questions are not so much about Loon but rather understanding what I'm looking at.
My 💔over this news, but I have been on pins and needles since finding out about the crash. Many thanks for the update. Merry Christmas and Happy Boxing Day to you.
@@katja8321 Miss you too! This is such sad news. I am truly heartbroken over this. I really do hope that they make a public statement. The fact that they have removed all comments is concerning. You take care and Merry Christmas 🎄 to you also. 🤗
If you cant listen, then you should just keep quit.. The call is for a crew chef, not a head chef and who was driving the vessel has NOT been confirmed. I believe there are 4 crew on Loon qualified to drive the chase and maybe 5..
Oh dear. Someone suggested Loon for Superyacht of the Year in the comments of one of your recent videos, because of the excellence and dedication of the crew. I made the point most crews are excellent and it's just the social media content which highlights Loon's crew, but this is really a shame if one error (?) means things change in a number of ways. Hope all those in hospital get better very soon. Sad, sad situation.
@esysman Have look at the small boat that blew up in Ft Lauderdale over the weekend. Tons of live video. Most importantly, Merry Christmas to you and the YachtReport family.
The HCB is stored near Ft Lauderdale during the summer when Loon is in the Med , in the summer ,Loon has another chase boat , the Anvera , which is stored for the winter in Italy. Loon sails across the Atlantic alone from the Med to Florida , then they collect the HCB from storage for the winter season. I can't imagine Capt Paul Clarke will be happy let alone the owner , I'm sure, if it is their HCB, a video about it will be on their channel .
The Loon has TWO chase boats… they leave one in storage in the Mediterranean, and put this one in storage when they leave the Caribbean. They do NOT transport this boat back and forth. FYI!
Happy Christmas. There are more and more yachts, so I guess there will be more and unfortunate events even though training has vastly improved, and the level of professionalism has increased, the human factor will always come into play. You cannot train that aways, people will always make mistakes, just like animals having a drink of water on the Masai Mara and a crocodile grabs them, or the highly skilled top KLM pilot at Tenerife. As for Loon and captain Paul, we will likely never know all the details. I hope the young woman recovers from what sounds like a devastating event. It does seem odd that this happened on the way back to Loon, and not headed to shore.
I you actually watch the Loon channel, you will see they have two chase vessels. One for the Med season and one for the South Florida and Caribbean season. Also, the Loon channel shows the chase boats being towed most of the time.
The Loons chase boat..they have 2.. 1 for the Caribbean and another for the Mediterranean.. They store each of them on shore when whenever they cross the Atlantic. Also, the Loon has been on the market for sale as of this year.
Petrol fumes are heavier than air, and collect in the lower reaches if not properly vented, or if a leak occurs. I suffered second degree burns when a small vessel flashed over; amazingly the vessel was largely fine.
Wow what a mess on the Loon! The captain (who I perceived as being levelheaded and very competent from a few videos I've watched on their channel) was driving and the crew are jumping ship? Yikes. Also that explosion on the other boat was horrific, I'm sorry about the one who lost his/her life.
No, Loon has TWO Chase boats, one for the Mediterranean and one for the Caribbean. They leave those chase boats in their respective regions when the Loon super yacht sails across the Atlantic. Those chase boats are optimized to the very different needs of the two locations.
M/Y Loon has a tender in the Med and a different tender in the States (Caribbean) They store the tender locally when not in use. Hopefully none of the crew are too badly hurt. Guessing this is due to a technical malfunction, because the crew seems quite professional, but you never know.
Wonderful reporting. I hope injured crew member makes a speedy recovery. Sounds like all crew on HCB have been dismissed, alcohol possibly involved? Noticed Loon hasn't put up any videos in the past few days.....
Merry Christmas to you and I love your journalism quality. While most jumps to conclusions in assumptions, you always based it on facts. Now, “what could go wrong” video brought up a question that I’ve been wondering for a long time. If a yacht is rated for 12 people, could you have more people on the yacht if it’s not an overnight trip?
Quick info from watching Loon’s channel. They leave the HCB in Florida for Caribbean work and have keep another all carbon fiber Anvera tender in Italy for Med work. (They say they need a more rugged hull for Caribbean) Crew all seem very nice, but, do like their partying, but, also seem very pro. I feel really bad for capt Paul if he was at the helm at the time of grounding. I’m sure he’s devastated.
Loons hcb53 stays in the carribean. Their other chase boat stays in the med. They put them in dry storage when they cross the Atlantic. This has been detailed in their youtube channel. We want to know who the injured crew was.

Anvera in the Med and HCB for Caribbean
The HCB 53 that they use in the Carribean has a much shallower draft than the Anvera 48 that they use whilst in the Mediterranean.
Thanks for the update. Happy Christmas to you!

There is no confirmation of Paul driving as other officers could have been at the helm. Regardless a license doesn’t guarantee behavior.
