- This is the Volvo S90 T8 Polestar Engineered. I am testing the S 90 Inscription trim model. The Volvo S90 T8 model is a plug-in hybrid, under the bonnet we face a 2L, 4 cylinder turbocharged petrol engine combined with an electric motor. Can the S90 T8 compete with the likes of BMW 530e or the Mercedes E-Class hybrid? Come with me to find out!

The Volvo brand still shouts safe, cautious, sensible, mature…..not for me!! On the other hand I would happily be a passenger in any car with Anna driving!

These reviews are so professional Anna, your presentation includes just the right amount of 'off the wall' humour like "what about the 5% pf particles it lets through? Great review, as always Anna. Volvo is something else indeed, you will never get that "atmosphere" in any other car, I also love the engineering that goes into making minimalistic look sophisticated and still exude luxury and class. Not easy. This one is very very nice 👍🏻
Had my S90 T8 R-Design56 PHEV 455 delivered on the 27th of Feb 23... Had a BMW 330e before.. The Volvo is chalk and cheese.. Limo drive when cruising but bonkers fast when in the mood. It`s a very big car though. But so nice own. I`m getting regularly over 45 miles on the electric Spring, Summer even Winter. Massive boot space for my golf clubs and trolley plus bits and bobs too. Extremely happy with my purchase.

Got a Magic Blue, Blonde leather S90 T8 in Inscription Pro a month ago (after a C Class) and boy, has this been an upgrade and a half or what. Such a stunning car - unpretentious, understated, and achingly cool. ALL of the additional options are so brilliantly worth it; and I'm so looking forward to the preconditioning function in the winter - entering a warm and toasty car in the mornings! I'm 42, and I feel like instead of joining a Members-only club, I've bought one. Love it! ❤
Oh this is such a gorgeous spec! I've just had the V90 in Denim Blue with Amber interior and I have fallen in love with this colouring. A bit warmer, a bit softer than Blond. But Blond makes the S90 so noble. That's the thing about Volvo - it's so stylish yet so unpretentious. So glad to hear your experience ❤
@@AnnaOnRoads Thanks for taking the time to reply. I know EXACTLY the interior you're talking about and I love it as well! We can just exchange cars for the weekend whenever we want! Haha. I literally JUST came back from a mammoth road trip from London to Alsace and back, and the car really was faultless. I had the massage seats on for at least half the journey (lol), and the Pilot Assist feature really is amazing. For the first time in my life I've been able to take my eyes off the road at least for a couple of seconds to admire the surroundings I am in. My only gripe was the mileage... some days I was unable to charge her, and the mileage was c.35mpg (and I don't put my foot down like you do)! So even with extremely careful driving I really only managed a trip total of 40.2 which I guess is okay. I only tried the power mode twice and oh my goodness - the car is a totally different BEAST in that mode. Even the ridiculously fast French drivers became a small speck in my rear view mirror on those two occasions. Sadly, I need to learn to worry a little less about mileage than I normally do - only to enjoy the Power drive mode more often! Take care!

Well, I have to admit that sometimes I also worry about the mileage especially that I do a lot of driving. But the way to think of it, we really only live once. And we don't know how much more we can enjoy such wonderful cars ❤

The S90 isn´t actually, it´s built exclusively at the Daqing-plant in China. The Torslanda-plant builds the V90/V90CC, V60/V60CC, XC60 and XC90 :)

Brilliant review Anna as always. Congratulations in getting the whole name of the Volvo out, I think I’ll forgot the name halfway through or got tongue tied somewhere along the line. 🤣. It does look really nice but that interior looks absolutely gorgeous, classy and elegant like you said. Sounds like the hybrid is used to help more for the performance than the economy even though they say the high mpg that it supposed to do. Lovely hat you got there Anna. Again love the outtakes. Hi Anna! As usual, your videos are professional in both picture and sound. You can change more on the Volvo and it is by moving your index finger on the screen from left to right then you see lots you can change. Sorry I forgot to mention it earlier when you tested the Volvo. I do not know if I have said it but in Sweden it is sold a bit of the S model regardless of whether it is the 90, 60 or 40 series. about 80% of the cars you sell are the V model or as we in Sweden say Kombi. The same thing regardless of car brand, most station wagon cars are sold. Then when you have to accelerate, you should let go and quickly push down the gas then it goes faster.

@@AnnaOnRoads Yes, you're right about the S90. We Swedes go to cottages on the weekend, out fishing or hunting, have a dog, and then many have a pram. So therefore Combi best. Like the Volvo dealer in Kiruna, no S model is included as a display, as they are still not sold but only the V models. If it is not an XC model and they are mostly sold in Kiruna. My city.

It’s definitely a beautiful car but I’m so apprehensive about buying anything electronic with the Advancement of technology it’s obsolete within a year.I was wondering how many times it took anna to,open the boot .
Automotive engineer here...way too much complexity to own longer term. Cool with warranty and a lease if you want to burn through money for this type of car.

I´m just responding to you rcomment about wanting to see the S90 as a estate car with the hybrid power plant, and the V90 is the estate (wagon) version of the S90, and available with the T8 hybrid twin engine.

But the comfort still applies! Plus the pollution, I've lived in Singapore for a while so that seat cooling is a must!

Hola Anna! Magnífico automóvil el Volvo S90, su diseño sigue siendo bonito. Suena muy interesante la versión Recharge T8. Definitivamente, es más recomendable un auto híbrido enchufable que uno completamente eléctrico. Me encanta el S90. Un auto que sin duda lo compraría.

Hi Anna. I'm going to have to disagree with your take on hybrids. In my opinion hybrids are best left for exotic cars such as Ferrari and McLaren for the electric assist to flatten the torque curve. For the ordinary driver I feel they either go full electric or a car with a standalone combustion engine. I just don't see the benefit of a hybrid especially now that electric cars have long range capability with the added bonus of a quick charge at a charging station. And with charging stations becoming more common, the major drawback I see with electric cars is the actual purchase price.
The other disadvantage I see with a hybrid is it adds another complexity to a vehicle which means adding another thing that could go wrong. If a hybrid owner only makes short trips and the engine is not being used then that owner is driving around unnecessarily with an engine which the space could be taken up with additional batteries. Then if a hybrid owner has the engine being used a lot of the time they might as well be driving a normal engine vehicle as the benefit of the hybrid system is going to be very minimal.
Nevertheless thanks for your review on a vehicle that doesn't get much attention in the media, well in Australia at least.

Stuffed is putting it kindly when the battery-or power grid-gives up. Good argument here for a hybrid but this follower/fan will wait another decade before plugging and praying. BTW: great handling of heels and wheel, jus’ sayin’…

Often overlooked is that darn near everything we use in daily life is petroleum-derived in some way or somehow connected to the ready availability of fossil fuels. Even in the case of EVs, the electric still has to be somehow generated for them. Doesn't happen by magic. The lithium for the batteries has to be mined and batteries have to be disposed of when they fail or wear out or whatever happens. Wind and solar will likely never be more than supplementals. So that leads us back to fossil fuels, nuclear, hydro-electric, etc. etc. I don't see very many people clamoring to give up their own civilized comforts. It's always supposed to fall on someone else.

It is a pretty car but only 4 cylinders cant compete with MB, BMW, Audi, Lexus, Cadillac etc. How is the top speed only 180kmh?
Volvo is now limiting the top speed across the entire range, sadly.

I'm not really sure what to make of it Anna.. now that Geely owns Volvo. I just don't think that they're the same. The drivelines are Chinese.. so they say... but it looks like a Volvo. after the year model 2015 ..the Volvo factory technicians that I know don't speak well of them.. if I had a choice I would go with the S class you previewed a few weeks ago.. oh well

Your skin looked fine , the 5% didn't get you! Great video of a non mainstream car. Prefer the looks of my work car , Arteon to be honest. My biggest problem with Volvo is here on the out skirts of London I visited three dealerships for Volvo when looking for a new SUV . The Volvo dealers really had poor product knowledge and dreadful customer service. Going to a Cupra dealer was the polar opposite, enthusiastic staff and a 2 hour test drive , not 15 minutes. Hence I have a Cupra Ateca. Stay safe.
