I have watched many of your videos. You do a very good job in this one in particular for beginners. I have been raising quail for 10 years just for myself. I usually have 40 or so at any given time. I usually grow jumbo browns because of the ease of sexing when I started out. But now I am going to get a hutch set up for birds of more colors and mixed colors because I have some friends and I that are going to experiment with using the feathers for fly tying. We all fly fish. Just another reason to keep these hardy tasty little birds. The grand kids call them "mini chickens" lol. Go for it people you will enjoy the results .
I love your videos... you're very easy to listen to and you have a wealth of knowledge about these quails. There are others on TH-cam, but I think you are the king of quail information. Thanks so much for sharing!
Red Wrigglers are consumed by Coturnix but they are very high protein so don’t overdo. Live mealworms should be killed (boiling water or freeze) before feeding to birds. If fed live and swallowed whole, it is possible for a mealworm to eat a hole in the crop.
WA awesome. Is there any chance of buying a 'clean Pharaoh' in WA? I am a new enthusiast south of Perth but been to clean up my line and start breeding well from the-start. Merry Christmas.
Would it be too much stress to move them from a cage to a aviary every day? Id like to keep them in a aviary all the time, but we have to many predators, and wouldn't feel safe at night.
How do I stop the rooster from tearing out the feathers on the back of the females neck. My females look horrible. I had a one to three ratio. Their necks look bright red and raw
It is a GREAT fertilizer for your garden. Not as hot as chicken manure, hotter than rabbit, but best to sit then mix with soil before adding to garden. Been use it ten years myself.
I am in NYS and you are allowed 1,000 units a self processed per year, a turkey is 2 unit & chicken are 1 unit. Anyone know how quail count and by how much?
I was thinking something similar. I'm planning on using DuMor cages from Tractor Supply and was considering tilting them forward and cutting out some of the front floor so the egg will drop through the slot into a catch tray. I'm thinking some soft foam or cushion for the egg to fall into. I'm sure, in the long run, I'll end up building but right now a prebuilt cage is best for me.
@@serzyoutdoors Yeah, you could even tilt then back. Then put two cages back to back with a single gutter in the middle tilting to a side. I had considered this but maintenance on the middle works be hard. My new design is different from these. I'll release the video soon.
One of my hens stands right when she lays. We have hardware cloth floors. The egg cracks every time with her. Don't have her anymore. It was a waste of eggs.
@@kelliwiemers6445 thanks for the info! I might put sandboxes in that area instead. You can see what I mean in my latest video. Again, thanks, this really helps!
You have a 5-minute introduction just to open by talking about your production. That's not why people are clicking on your video. Get to the subject nobody really cares about your theme song. You shouldn't ask for likes and subscribes before you've given anything to the audience. Good luck

Sounds good.what were you spraying in the cage front?
Hi Terry. This is such a great series. Thanks for sharing your experience and knowledge. Do you de-worm your birds regularly?
I do not deworm my birds. Glad you are enjoying the series.

1 to 5 or 6 is a kinder ratio for the females.
Started my birds using aragonite (crushed coral) for their grit and calcium, what are your thoughts on that rather than oyster shell?
I would find another kind of feeder that the chickens step on and open it up and it closes that might help get rid of mice
Hi Terry. What do you do with the manure?

Will an egg survive a 2" drop onto 1/2" x 1" mesh? (Making a different type of egg door...Stay tuned)
Don't know, never tried it.

How hard is it to leave the skin on the birds when cleaning them
Do new baby chicks have to stay under a heat lamp like baby chickens do
a heat lamp or a brooder plate are needed for the first few weeks but they adjust to room temperature fairly early. I use a brooder plate.
Recommendation……how many jumbo birds for older couple that just wants to supplement our diet with both eggs and meat 1 x week
Hear you
18” x 20” = 2.5 sq ft. With 4 birds, that’s 5/8 sq ft per bird.
QQ Does hard water, with a lot of lime, hurt the quail ??
If you don’t drink it yourself don’t give it to the birds.
I couldn't say, but I imagine lime wouldn't be good for your water systems, lines, waterers, etc.
I'm at 35 minutes and it is one greeting after another - when does the information begin. I don't mean to complain but time is precious.
Lol make your own videos
-40 C = -40 F
