Between your page, and the Southwest Game Birds, I have learned so much about how to properly keep quail. Thank you for what you're doing.

Thank you! I’d heard several of these myths and knew they weren’t correct, but I learned a lot of new information too, and it’s very much appreciated!

Excellent interview! Great information and wow...turns out a lot of what I believed was simply a myth. Thank you both for taking the time to educate us. 👍

I am relatively new to raising quail and have just purchased eggs from Kansas (I live in Canada) to add to my flock of seven quail. Thanks for this informative show.

I keep reading that quail do not use Ramps like chickens.. i do have two levels with a rabbit ramp my quail do use it to go from the other nesting area mostly using it as a sleeping area.

The only reason I would buy new blood is too improve size from another line.
But I would raise up those birds, breed those birds, see how they compare to your own original birds, and THEN add some into your line IF there is a improvement

I thought the hatching time cage was too small but they have been happy in it.

I have some jumbo browns that have never been scared or jumped around and while watching this video they did. The dogs don’t bother them or me when I feed them, but they saw a hawk and were freaking out and pacing.

Pickled eggs will last on the shelf if it does not have botchalism which is pretty easy to tell if you store long term. Like any other canned goods the product will swell in the container if there is an issue.

Hi Terry! I have 8 female coturnix quail and one male. The girls are about 3 months old and the male is about 1 year. The issue is, none of the girls are producing eggs. They’ve got a constant supply of quail food, constant supply of water, they are outside and have a sheltered area and an inside area. We are in England so the temperature isn’t anything they can’t handle, but every time it gets a bit raining we put them in there inside area, but they always have plenty of sunlight. I’ve been looking on the internet but nothing will explain why they aren’t producing eggs, but nothing will explain it. Do you have any idea what’s going on?

You need between 14 - 16 hours of daylight for them to lay, if you are not getting that many natural hours of light you can add some supplemental lighting to extend the daylight hours.

Goliath quail. I'm in Australia and bought some eggs recently and the breeder info that came with the eggs said they breed Goliath lines as well as the jumbos I purchased. I asked about these birds and they said that their Jumbos are lines that consistently top out at 275-350g and their Goliaths are lines that consistently top out at 350-490g. What are your comments on that? Should I be wary of the goliath claims or not? At face value they seem to be very professional in everyway.

I’ve probably bought off the same breeder because that’s what they told me as well.

Is there a safe way to pickle quail eggs at all? Does cooking the egg not kill it?

I hv to ask the question: if botcholusm is already present, how does the refrigeration process avert the issue??

It suppresses bacterial growth. Clostridium, or at least its most dangerous strains, needs minimum of 10oC (50F) for growth, so in the fridge it won't grow and most importantly, it won't produce the toxin

Hi Terry, hope the property is getting back to normal. Can you tell me if it's worth adding Apple cider vinegar to their water is worth it?

    • @CoturnixCorner
      @CoturnixCorner  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Slowly but surely we are getting things cleaned up. I've heard of people using Apple cider vinegar (with the mother) mixed in with the water. To be honest, I'm not sure of the benefits, but I believe it would be similar to feeding fermented feed.
