    I like his faction. Access to Kushite archers, gold, and slaves. Seems to be the beginners campaign. Also he starts with a title and position in the hierarchy.

    Epic stuff - really stirring outro! I've never spent that much time on Egyptian history (more of a NW European lit background), but you're doing a great job of stirring my interest in the period.

      Glad you are liking it! Those outros literally write themselves, it is nothing but a collection of the king's actual claimed titles. The Egyptians were fantastic self promoters. The people of the ancient world have some amazing stories, I am blessed to be in a position to share them.

      @@entirelyalive Well they did give you excellent material - but it also takes talent to recognize the potential in those titles, and integrate them effectively into your own writing (plus the other aspects of intonation, music, editing, etc.) - very well done and impactful!

    Another interesting video! We do know quite a lot about Egypt at this point, with a good amount of primary sources surviving, but there is so much we dont know, and the political erasure campaigns dont help matters. So much we only have incomplete bits of info causing so much discussion!

    I began with him as my first play through. Amenmesse is hard to play with and rule. But of the 3, he seemed to me the most level headed and the one who should have a rightful claim to the throne. In Egypt's past, those who rose from the south...generally Thebes and Abydos and Thinis, most always restored the country back into stability. It is also where the first Dynasty of Kings hailed from. Memphite kings of the north rose to prominence in later dynasties. Though historically, Ramses III is the one who came out on top...the game makes Amenmesse seem like the better of the two brothers from a standpoint despite not being his father's original heir. Even Merneptah questions, in game, if sending his son Amenmesse to Kush was the right choice and whether he should have given him some consideration as a potential heir to his throne. Especially given Seti II's recklessness after giving him such lofty titles and grooming to be his successor unlike Amenmesse who is just bitter and feels hes been exiled due to his mother being from Nubia when it doesnt seem to be case from Merneptah's point of view.

    Ramsess(3) will start in Sinai is confirmed

    Not super relevant to the video, but I just realized that the clip at 6:50 means that Bay likely starts the game off in Gubla(Byblos). Cool, since we didn't know where he'd be. He's basically directly in the middle of Canaan.

    • @jamesbleckley7872
      @jamesbleckley7872 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is a really good catch. I hadn't noticed that. I am putting Bay's video together, and was about to start discussing where he might start lol, but had no idea where they could put him. Gubla is a terrible, terrible place for him to start though, and that will be criticized for sure.

      @@jamesbleckley7872 It's definitely a bit weird. It was Egyptian territory to be sure, but basically right on the edge of it. I'd have expected him to start closer to Egypt. But there are two reasons they might have done it if I were to guess. Firstly, we know that both Rameses and Irsu start in/around Sinai. If Bay was also just outside of it, it'd mean 3 faction leaders basically right next to each other(which could be fun in its own way, however). Secondly, if Bay did start very close to egpyt, it'd basically mean that 6/8 of the factions start in egypt with a massive stretch of empty land in Canaan until you get to the Hitites where they've only got 2 factions there. This start at least means there's still a somewhat more even(though still egypt-focused) spread of factions.

      I get it from a gameplay perspective, but I don't like it historically. Also, I had hoped that they could leave the Levant emptier then fill it later with faction packs, esp a place like Byblos with so much unique history. I guess I will write about the historical Bay, then need to do like a reaction vid when we get more details on him in game.

    Oldest stories like your videos. do you know of any books about the 19th dynasty?

    • @entirelyalive
      @entirelyalive  ปีที่แล้ว

      So, the whole 19th dynasty is dominated by Ramesses II, and I don't have a good book for him, but there are a ton out there. For this period after Merneptah, my main sources are "Poisoned Legacy" by Aiden Dodson, "Tausret" by Richard Wilkinson, and "Ramesses III" by Eric Cline and David O'Connor. All are interesting, though a bit on the academic side. Also, journal article searches on all the Pharaohs of the period, then scavenging thier bibliographies, can get you deeper if you have journal access (or sci-hub lol) Hope that helps!

    Just started your podcast last month since the beginning. Just finished OS 34. Loving it. Have you ever thought of inviting a Warhammer Loremaster to talk about Tomb Kings history? Just to compare and contrast? I got someone in mind who not only has been reading the Lore for about 10 years, but I'm also sure wouldn't be opposed to the idea

    • @entirelyalive
      @entirelyalive  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The crossover potential with Warhammer is absolutely massive. I have considered doing a "How Egyptian are the Necrons and Tomb Kings" by comparing those descriptions with the Book of the Dead and similar texts. Also, my main focus is on Mesopotamia, and I have wanted to do a Chaos Dwarf special for a while. The problem is, I get so excited about Warhammer that I would feel bad bringing some other loremaster in rather than doing it myself, but at the same time I haven't got the time to give these projects the attention they deserve. Maybe if the TW side of this channel grows, I might send some feelers out to the warhammer guys that I personally have been listening to for a while, and maybe run some kind of discussion. We will see lol.

    Will they add a separate Kushite campaign?
