There are better choices but not based on fighting prowess. As long as it isn't Ryan Reynolds I don't mind. I definitely think Adkins needs a role in MK to have good fights, along with Iko Uwais, Lateef Crowder, Nguyen , Ray Park, Ian Anthony Dale, Michael Jai White, Tony Jaa, etc. But it's WB behind it so expect a bunch of lesser actors who can't fight.

I just can't see, Scott playing JC. he has never played any comedic charismatic character before, all the roles he did were anti heroes. on the other hand Alan was literally JC in those Kickboxer movies, not to mention he is blonde as well

After watching Mortal Kombat movie, i say no thanks. He was as charasmatic as a cardboard in that movie. Dont get me wrong, i like lewis but that movie was shit. Joe Taslim and Hiroyuki Sanada saved that movie. Just my 2 cents

Ever since I saw Lewis Tan for the first time in "Into the Badlands", I noticed how he just have magnetism and charisma. Your eyes just go to him in every shot.
Yeah I remember how sloppy the 'Iron Fist' was with his martial arts. It took away any immersion into the MCU with how bad he was. It was frustrating as I really wanted to get into that show. The girl with the katana was way better than Iron Fist
It added on to how bad Iron Fist was as a *super-powered* martial artist. He was constantly struggling in fights against normal humans. It's pretty absurd, how badly conceived the show was. Picking an actor who neither had the martial arts skills nor the charisma, was just the icing on the turd.
Holy shit, I had no idea that Lewis Tan was the son of a a famous stunt performer, especially Philip Tan. I grew up watching his dad in movies all the time, now I gotta go back and watch Tango and Cash, Martial Law, Surf Ninjas., and Lethal Weapon 4. Also, the character of Iron Fist in the comics was always a white guy, but could they not cast an actual martial artist to play him in a live action show? Was Scott Adkins not available?
@@welcometothemovies9157 Problem was they just didn't give the actor the right amount of training. They did like a couple weeks of training for someone with no martial arts experience. Non-martial artists can do well in roles without experience when trained properly Keanu in the wick movies is a perfect example.
I like Lewis Tan. He was cool in Into the Badlands and Wu Assassins. That Cole Young character in Mortal Kombat, didnt care for that. However, I enjoyed the fight scenes in the recent MK film, not the Cole fights, but yeah. TERRANCE OUT
Yea I think that the choreography was pretty good but the cinematography and editing was quite poor tbh... (In the MK movie). I totally agree though, Lewis Tan was freaking amazing in Wu Assassins, so we definitely know that he has a lot more potential than what was provided to him by the writers of MK

Scott, I don't know if you read these comments but love your interviews. As far as trying to get your son into the martial arts i have to say that I used to do my stretching watching tv with my kid and had attempted several times to get them to come to my class where i was teaching. Sometimes they would but not everyone wants to do what you are doing. I did make it a point to teach them all self defense for their own protection but have to say i have been training now for just over 65 years and not one of my kids followed me. I am a retired police officer and body guard and one did become a law enforcement officer. All you can do is try to get them interested but I had a few young students that were pushed into the arts by their father but you can see that they really hated it. If that is what it is going to happen then you will only push your son away from you more than bringing him closer to you. Keep up the good work and look forward to seeing more of your movies..

Regarding Iron Fist. This is why The Punisher worked. Jon Bernthal may not be "a action hero", but he did his stuff and he did it well and you can see it in very episode. It really worked with him. Iron Fist just never worked, I never believed it at all. Hey, maybe it would be worth it to invite Jon Bernthal to the show to get an actor, that does action in :) Would love it!
Scott, that stable shot of Lewis, where it looks like the camera is attached, could of been done in post. I did a similar fx in a short film, you use digital stabilising by using the person, this case Lewis as the tracking point... Makes him stable and background moving. Where normally you would try to track a none moving point to stabilise a shot.. well they may have done it a different, but that's my thoughts

@@jasondiend4248 as a long time mk fan since the 90s I was just incredibly disappointed with the movie and the wasted potential. They had such good martial artists and promised some of the best movie fights ever and then it seems like they never even watched the raid for example.

Since the original x-men movie where Ray Park was toad he was trying working to get an Iron Fist movie made with fox at that time where he was gonna be Danny Rand but it never went thru. I tried to push my son into Music,film and Martial arts his entire childhood! I’m a black belt in Traditional Kung Fu and Shaolin and was a blue belt red tip in Taekwondo growing up. He took Shaolin for a little over two years then rebelled and quit! He did the same with music! Being in both the film and music industry he grew up around sets and had a mass of every instrument around him his entire life! He could play drums,guitar,piano anytime day or night but never stuck with anything! I can say i pushed him but not very hard. He’d been on set with me during GiJoe for a few years and thought when a teen he’d be more into film or something and he did love film but i came to the conclusion that nowadays kids are going to become their own person in a different way that our gen did! They’ll be much different than how we grew up! The change to not doing anything i wished he do or wanted him to do happened seriously at 15. He quit everything and told me he was into computers,gaming and now podcasting! I hope you feel my pain;.(…

Working for your Dad is harder than any other job no matter what industry. I grew up working for my old man and he was twice as hard on me because as far as he was concerned I was representing him. It was a great experience and made me a better Leader later in my career.
Love this episode! Tan definitely has the skills to be a great martial artist actor and so far I love what he's done! Definitely loved the MK movie and the fight scenes were badass! Hope to Adkins as JC in the MK sequel!

That's a great recommendation. We also need some of Jackie Chan's stunt team. His friend who was his main opponent in Drunken Master and also the guy with the bad ass kicks from Who Am I?, he was also the one who fought Tony Jaa in the police building in Triple Threat.
@@treestopper2 The Who Am I? guy is Ron Smoorenburg. Actually, he couldn’t get the timing down for some of the kicks so Bradley James Allen doubled him in a few shots.

That’s the thing if MarvelNetflix had casted an actual Martial Artist to portray Iron Fist unlike Finn. He didn’t necessarily have to be an Asian because Danny Rand isn’t Asian or even an Asian American who trained & prepared properly for the role it would’ve been much better. Infact Lewis could’ve dyed his Hair & played the role. At least with Daredevil Cox was believable. Iron Fist felt rushed. To be honest I’m sick of MCU’s either White washing Black washing & GenderBending there’s NO need for it. Their are many Asian characters, White Characters & Black Characters as well as Female Characters so they need to lay off the swapping & shet it’s ridiculous. I like Lewis Tan. He was cool in Into the Badlands and Wu Assassins. That Cole Young character in Mortal Kombat, didnt care for that. However, I enjoyed the fight scenes in the recent MK film, not the Cole fights, but yeah.

Yea I think that the choreography was pretty good but the cinematography and editing was quite poor tbh... (In the MK movie). I totally agree though, Lewis Tan was freaking amazing in Wu Assassins, so we definitely know that he has a lot more potential than what was provided to him by the writers of MK

All the fights were kind of crap, quick cut editing, not as bad as something like taken 2 or 3, but it wasn’t good.

I hate race washing and gender washing, but sometimes it works, and Iron Fist being Colleen or Shuri being Black Panther could be dope (if they change the actress because Laetitia Wright is 40 pounds soaking wet)

it was a great fight and he really impressed me in it. but i didnt know that the lead of MK was that guy in the iron fist. he didnt impress me that much in MK tbh, thats strange. but in fist his movements were really outstanding

Scott, I don't know if you read these comments but love your interviews. As far as trying to get your son into the martial arts i have to say that I used to do my stretching watching tv with my kid and had attempted several times to get them to come to my class where i was teaching. Sometimes they would but not everyone wants to do what you are doing. I did make it a point to teach them all self defense for their own protection but have to say i have been training now for just over 65 years and not one of my kids followed me. I am a retired police officer and body guard and one did become a law enforcement officer. All you can do is try to get them interested but I had a few young students that were pushed into the arts by their father but you can see that they really hated it. If that is what it is going to happen then you will only push your son away from you more than bringing him closer to you.

Regarding Iron Fist. This is why The Punisher worked. Jon Bernthal may not be "a action hero", but he did his stuff and he did it well and you can see it in very episode. It really worked with him. Iron Fist just never worked, I never believed it at all. Hey, maybe it would be worth it to invite Jon Bernthal to the show to get an actor, that does action in :) Would love it!

Scott, that stable shot of Lewis, where it looks like the camera is attached, could of been done in post. I did a similar fx in a short film, you use digital stabilising by using the person, this case Lewis as the tracking point... Makes him stable and background moving. Where normally you would try to track a none moving point to stabilise a shot.. well they may have done it a different, but that's my thoughts

@@Spjerdalai A lot of people often say things like this would do exactly what the director and writers did. You do what your job entails you don't do whatever the fuck you want. No matter how much of a disservice the film did to the cast and franchise.
@@jasondiend4248 as a long time mk fan since the 90s I was just incredibly disappointed with the movie and the wasted potential. They had such good martial artists and promised some of the best movie fights ever and then it seems like they never even watched the raid for example.
I really enjoyed this segment. Thanks to Scott I am more familiar with this gentleman’s work and his dad’s and I cannot wait to see him in future projects.

Iron Fist shouldn't be Asian, he was always white in the comics. The problem was it should've been a white actor who knows martial arts. Like Scott Adkins.
Or at least given enough training time to make it work like Keanu had for John Wick. Instead they did like a couple weeks of training for someone with no background which was stupid.
@@bradmiles1984 I heard they rushed Iron Fist because they had The Defenders release coming up. No matter how good his acting is, he cannot sell a martial arts expert role unless he's trained for it.
@@Mutantgamer Yeah rushing was just a bad idea. It's a great character that took decades to finally get on screen and it got that treatment. Since the original x-men movie where Ray Park was toad he was trying working to get an Iron Fist movie made with fox at that time where he was gonna be Danny Rand but it never went thru. He would of been a vast improvement.
And MJW should have been Luke Cage, instead we got fat Luke Cage and mcdojo Iron Fist.

You know the fight choreography in MK was kinda weak, when Scott's favorite fight is the CGI one.
I tried to push my son into Music,film and Martial arts his entire childhood!
I’m a black belt in Traditional Kung Fu and Shaolin and was a blue belt red tip in Taekwondo growing up.
He took Shaolin for a little over two years then rebelled and quit!
He did the same with music!
Being in both the film and music industry he grew up around sets and had a mass of every instrument around him his entire life!
He could play drums,guitar,piano anytime day or night but never stuck with anything!
I can say i pushed him but not very hard.
He’d been on set with me during GiJoe for a few years and thought when a teen he’d be more into film or something and he did love film but i came to the conclusion that nowadays kids are going to become their own person in a different way that our gen did!
They’ll be much different than how we grew up!
The change to not doing anything i wished he do or wanted him to do happened seriously at 15.
He quit everything and told me he was into computers,gaming and now podcasting!

Working for your Dad is harder than any other job no matter what industry. I grew up working for my old man and he was twice as hard on me because as far as he was concerned I was representing him. It was a great experience and made me a better Leader later in my career.

That's a great recommendation. We also need some of Jackie Chan's stunt team. His friend who was his main opponent in Drunken Master and also the guy with the bad ass kicks from Who Am I?, he was also the one who fought Tony Jaa in the police building in Triple Threat.
@@treestopper2 The Who Am I? guy is Ron Smoorenburg. Actually, he couldn’t get the timing down for some of the kicks so Bradley James Allen doubled him in a few shots.

That’s the thing if MarvelNetflix had casted an actual Martial Artist to portray Iron Fist unlike Finn. He didn’t necessarily have to be an Asian because Danny Rand isn’t Asian or even an Asian American who trained & prepared properly for the role it would’ve been much better. Infact Lewis could’ve dyed his Hair & played the role.
