Hi guys it’s been almost 10 months since I posted this video! I want to share with you how life has been since then. :)
1.) I now work online with VIPKID and can work wherever I want to in the world whenever I want to! I am my own boss freely choosing my own days and hours that I want to work. All completely up to me. I make thousands of dollars more than I used to in China! I work 1 on 1 compared to my China job dealing with up to 15 kids per classroom!! Want to learn more? Add me on Instagram! If you want to sign up with vipkid, make sure to use my referral code! :)
    Personal: Janaeadventures
    VIPKID: vipkidjanae
    Referral Code: JANAE0028
2.) I got out of a horribly bad physically abusive relationship and you didn’t see much of me until I broke up with him and traveled to Central America and South America!
3.) I’ve been traveling Guatemala, Belize, Mexico, and Brazil since then! I’m going to Europe in late May or early June to reunite with my amazingly sweet Swedish boyfriend. We met in Mexico. And I met up with him again in Brazil. 😊
4.) I am now the happiest I’ve ever been. The woman I am now has never been so joyful in her entire life. It’s crazy. I love my job. I love getting to travel whenever. And I absolutely 100% love how amazingly kind, genuine, honest, and very gentle boyfriend is. He won’t even kill insects. He just picks them up and puts them outside bahaha.
Thanks for sticking around. Make sure to check my most recent videos out! Leave a comment and a like!!!:)

And now VIPKid is dead, the online TEFL market is horrendous, people charge $10/hour on preply and you can make 3-4 times more money in China. 30-40,000 yuan/month salaries are very common for minimal work. Although long term the TEFL market is dead globally. This decade is shaping up to be awesome! Haha.

I've been teaching in China off and on for the past 15 years. Chinese culture doesn't respect written contracts the way people do in the West. Enter into an agreement knowing that there's a good chance the company will try to weasel out of their obligations, and have a backup plan for when that happens.

China has to restrict any Anglosaxon that coming to their nation by only having "teaching English" skill, no more that skill, instead various skills in finance, science and tech

    • @dianedong1062
      @dianedong1062 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

@@irritatedanglosaxon1705 I've met plenty of teachers in my time and certainly some of them should never have been allowed to call themselved "teachers". Some of those people had univeristy degrees yet didn't even have a basic understanding of high school math and science. I'm not sure how that's possible, but it's true. I'm not sure why you specifically singled out "Anglosaxons", as if somehow people from Nigeria, India, Columibia, and other societies are somehow more virtuous and knowlegeable by nature. The problem with China though is that most of the best teachers would rather work in Japan, Taiwan, Korea, or some other place where they can access google. There's a shortage here, so they often end up taking what they can get.

Your experience in China sounds familiar with me in terms of the treatment of “foreign” English teachers in Japan. You are not alone and I empathize with the treatment you experienced. I once worked as a English teacher in Japan some 30 years ago and I used it as a stepping stone to finance my way to graduate school to further my education. I was already fairly fluent in Japanese when I first traveled to Japan as an English conversation teacher at a private college. The Japanese Government had and still sponsors a program that sends BA level graduates teach at various schools in the country where you are used as a White Face to demonstrate to a domestic audience how “international” Japan is. I’m fortunate that I did not go through that Ministry of Foreign Affairs program. I’m very happy that you have “graduated” from this tough experience and are now working in a field of your own liking. Good luck to you. As time passes you will see more of the positives about your time abroad in China, and less of the painful memories. It’s a natural process.

You are airing your bad experience in China. I feel you. As a Chinese immigrant who later became an American through naturalization, I have lived in the US for more than 2 decades, I get treated unfairly a lot of times because of my background. There was a time when I had a rental dispute with a Chinese American, the American police sided with that Chinese American who was born and grew up in America, speaking perfect English, even thought the police knew he was breaking the law by splitting a bedroom into 2 smaller rooms, then rented them out.

China has faults for sure, just like every country, including the usa.
But if you know the history of our country china you will understand better. China used to be the superpower of the world for 2000 years right until the 1800s when foreign powers came to attack and occupy. China not only had to deal with the foreign powers meddling and causing trouble all throughout the early 1900s but it also went though a lot of civil war between KMT and communist party.
The communist party won in 1949 and for the next 30 years or so there was a big mess, with the cultural revolution. China only reeeeally started to settle from late 70s. For the next 40 years china was rebuilding itself and its actually done very well.
You cannot compare it to a country like usa because usa has not had foreign powers invading and occupying it for the past 150 years or so. Apart from minor attacks like pearl harbour, American mainland has been in peace. But of course you are happy in usa so hey Im happy for you. Just giving you some history of our country that's all and just saying it is rebuilding itself. :) xx

I've got to say wow, you put up with that for a whole year. I was also in China but my employer was quite OK, shady yes but not so bad, one down fall, where they should have given me an 8000 yuan completion bonus, they decided to bend the rules and decided to pay my airfare back to Australia which was on China eastern airline worth 4000 yuan. Pissed me off, I even argued the point to them but they just give you that saving face smile, grrr. I'm currently in my 6th year working in Cambodia and I love it, maybe consider coming here one day.

My friend is also an American and she lives in Cambodia and married a Cambodian! She doesn’t make nearly as much as I did in China, but she loves the place and she’s having a huge water crisis in Phnom Penh. I’ve been Cambodia in Phnom Penh and siem reap! It’s definitely third world living, but you’ll have to tell me more about it! 😊

#1 .. the law in China says you can give 30-day notice to quit by law. #2 .. there is a labour board for us foreigners .. #4 you could have quit with 30 days notice and they would have to by law give you with both release papers. I have lived in China for 6 years, my son has been teaching for 5 years and my twin brother for 20 years. In our company, 25% of our staff has been here for 6 to 10 years. To go live and work in a foreign country isn’t for everyone. There’s a lot of difference in how ppl conduct their lives and their work. Also if you don’t know the language, of course you are gonna be in the dark. Since you don’t understand everything, you expect and judge everyone as you would in America which doesn’t work most of the time. ESL teachers often have this problem. But I believe Chinese people treat foreigners pretty nicely in general. They are often more polite and offers free meal and free drink to foreigners. I hope you can find a better company to work for next time!

I knew an American Doctor about 12 or so years ago (Dr. Waters), he was a general practitioner & general surgeon!! He was invited to do some work in China & the Chinese woman who initiated him going there was a victim of a violent street crime of 2 men on a motorcycle who grabbed her purse but the purse dragged her & hurt her very seriously!! He said they would not allow him to not only visit her in the hospital but he could in no way contact her & therefore lost contact with her!! She never came back to the hospital or other medical facility he was working at!! They double-crossed him & did not pay him for the work he did after this accident & injury!! He said he was ripped off of the money he was suppose to get & was promised to him by this Chinese woman!! With her out of the picture, others in authority took advantage of this American doctor!! I wonder how many Americans & other foriegners have been 'ripped-off' like Dr. Waters in China??
