We camped a lot when I was growing up. Mom and Dad always made us walk the area and pickup any trash we found. When we asked why they always said the same thing “You should always leave a place better than when you came”. Thanks for being such a good example.
I am puzzled by the support for someone staying on an area which is clearly signed not to. Then people wonder why campervans get a bad name. Personally, if I read those signs and/or as you did from your research, then I would simply find somewhere else.
Exactly. I don't get the comments supporting him for 'handling the situation well'. There wouldn't have been a situation to de-escalate if he hadn't broken the rules. He knew about the signs, then argued when confronted. Why should the rules have to be changed to his liking? Just go somewhere else. Geeze. The entitlement! People are criticising the local but I'd be angry too if I kept seeing people ignoring the signs everytime I walked my dog! It must get so tedious.
@@LoveSundays at what point in the video did you say this was a protest against 2nd homes? was anything on your van visible to the locals stating this? I agree that 2nd homes should be banned as they force prices above what the locals can afford. i also agree that allowing overnight stays for a charge would be sensible, however at this location, at this time, with signs indicating it was not permitted I'm afraid you were entirely in the wrong.
In many places there is nowhere else because councils put them everywhere (as they have done in Fareham & Gosport) even though they have no legal force (unless accompanied by a displayed fine for contravention), its performative punishment.
Many years ago there were very few regulations and laws. The regulations only turn up to limit bad behaviour. There is no way to explain my attitude in full, but briefly Human nature fits better with the carrot than the stick. Reward good behaviour. People who "leave no trace" (or better, leave it better than when they arrived), morally speaking, are part of the solution, not part of the problem. But the letter of the law too often takes precedence of the spirit of it. Regulations and laws are bad at telling the difference, up until you get before a judge and jury, which is too expensive to be practical.
Im with the local on this one. You knew it was a risky park up and got pulled. You broke the rules 1 Arrive late, leave early. 2. Don't be a dick if you can help it.
The guy with the dogs lives just up the road, has lived in West Cornwall for well over 20 years and puts far more into any community than anyone else i know. Everyone wants to camp on a beach in their campervan (myself included) and so if it was allowed, the place would be wall to wall campervans. There's no camping for a good reason. Bloke camping decided to risk it and rightly got called out, can't really complain and sticking this blokes image up on TH-cam isn't really on.
Just because there is a suitable place to stop doesn not entitle you to stop there. Often someone has moved there and attempted to enclose land/beaches thus denying other use so locals have had to challenge and then correct the ownership. I am sick of people saying what others SHOULD do with their property - as in have a camper site, allow fires, allow dogs, etc.
The problem is too many tourists. These sandy coves are tiny and there’s literally millions of city dwellers being egged on to buy camper vans to enjoy the “freedom”.
No overnight camping. Doesn’t say unless you pick up a bag of rubbish. I can’t see why you would want to park somewhere that is going to upset people living there. Perhaps this is why more and more signs are going up. I don’t feel the locals need to justify why you can’t stay overnight.
👏 spot on. I know he had good intentions, but shouldn't have been surprised by a hostile reaction. He knew it was likely to upset those who had purchase the car park/beach and worked hard to keep it usable for all.
I live on an island, and we have lots and I mean lot's of motorhomes and campervans parking up for over night stays, and I and others have absolutely no right to tell them they can't, putting a sign up saying they can't, means nothing, they can bring their own sign saying please stay overnight, and if challenged, point out that one...put a sign up at the end of your street saying no access, see how far you get.
If there are no camping signs on show then it's no wonder that any locals would have a go at you and it wouldn't matter how nice you are. To say that the locals are missing a trick by not charging campers to stay on the beach is missing the point of why people live in a place like that. They couldn't careless about any monetary gain, they just want peace and freedom from the masses.
@@Steve-s8k Though my point was about the crucial importance of punctuation in conveying meaning (I trust it registered with you). What you wrote was the opposite of what you meant.
@@petergroves3153 I saw the punctuation but from what I remember, as the article was months ago, there were signs up saying 'no overnight camping', which is why I said that it is no wonder the locals are peeved.
Great idea to pick up a bag full of plastic off the beach . If everyone did that it would be brilliant ! But sorry the Old fella was still right,I can see his point . If you let one do it you will soon have loads of vans on the beach taking liberties .
He explained to you why there is no campung, perfectly vaykid reasons, you don't live there and dont know the issues there may have been. He tells you there is a campsite up the road, use it. You go on about a night charge, who is going to administer and monitor it?
@@LoveSundays I don't understand the implication or the point of saying he's a migrant. Many British people internally migrate or migrate to other countries as well.
Respectfully and objectively speaking, a big white van parked up on a pretty shingle beach taints the aesthetic. Unfortunately, we now live in a society where reactions to misdemeanours are ridiculed more-so than the misdemeanours themselves.
We full-time and the sign said no camping and a sign with a red line through a motorhome. On this occasion you are wrong . Dawlish warren tried to allow overnight parking, within 4 weeks it turned into a sh.. house
To be fair. That wasn't the best place to park a van overnight. I though that stealth camping was about being discreet and stopping out of the way. Not right in front of the locals faces, on their beach!
Nice one picking up the trash, the more you look the more you see as until you look closer it can appear quite tidy on a shingly beach. There are cheap fingerless gloves on Ebay with rubbery grip dots on the palm & fingers that'd be great for cold days holding the camera, drone remote etc. Keep up the adventures!
Good job with cleaning up the beach and also talking to the local man about your opinion and offering some advice. I was nervous when you went outside during the night. But I figured things were okay or else there would not have been a video. Way too cold for me to be sleeping in a van, heater or no heater. Glad you were able to make it thru wearing all of your clothes!
Good video mate. Totally understand the locals frustration, although with out campers and tourism, Cornwall would have even more unemployment and less money. I love taking holidays in the West Country but it is becoming so busy and expensive to stay anywhere in the area. Well done with the beach clean, safe parking away from sea, and your attempt to support the local pub!
I'm Cornish, campers bring in good money for pubs and local shops. perhaps more than holiday home owners. They buy food and provisions, meals, gas and diesel locally as a rule. I'm sure a lot more campers would use the numerous 10.00 overnight pitches if they knew where there were in the first place. Where I live we turn a blind eye because there have never been too many in the same spots at the same time. Maybe it's just the Doggers objecting 🤣
Apparently tourism accounts for just 10% of Cornwall's GDP, now 10% is still significant, but i know a lot of locals understandably get sick of the clogged up roads and so on in season
It’s 10% and that’s why Cornwall is one of the poorest counties in the UK. If there were more camper friendly places that income would be a lot higher.
Have you been to some of the campsites. The facilities are on occasions shocking and the pitches are awful. They also charge anywhere between £35/45 a night. Which we all know is scandalous. The fact is the UK is just becoming anti-social. If you don’t want to be a destination for camping or an attraction area to visit then ditch all the hospitality sector geared up to it.
Well done Shaun. a tricky situation which you both handled with respect and the local chap will now know theres at least one decent guy out there in a camper and maybe he will have a better opinion knowing he met one. Much respect as always- Kenny
Loved the way you dealt with him.....deescalated the situation and he went from being g a sweary cockwomble to an OK guy who apologised and explained the issues they have had. Good to have you back fella
I can totally see why they limit this. It’s frustrating trying to find a park up but every time I pull into a popular spot where a few vans are it’s noisy and ppl take over. Iv seen ppl putting fire pits in the road and filling the place to the point that the locals can’t come in and go for a walk. I’m on both sides of this one but I know it’s not everyone but there is a pattern of abuse followed by height barriers.
Tbh don't think you have an argument.theres signs saying no camping.and you camped there ? Anyways he probably wants it for his self to let his dogs run wild
Well by that rule Shaun would have to pack it all in. So would I and lots of responsible people. I don't care about signs in public areas. Beaches and woodlands are mine

Just had another thought the pub would of been open if the place was full of locals you should do a vid showing how many lights are off in the surrounding houses that's a good indication of holiday use homes !
Or, the publicans run throughout the summer without a day off and use January/start of the year to close down for a well earned break? As is quite typical in the hospitality trade....
A lot of people involved in the tourist trade do so well, especially from holiday homes, cleaning managing, maintaining etc that they will often holiday abroad in the winter. I have a holiday home even thr window cleaner has flats he let's out. Tourism is big. Not all are just left empty for Londoners to visit once in a while
@@LoveSundays it's not a holiday home. It's a business Shaun. If it's not let we are there. One of the golden rules for 'stealth' camping is 'get there late, leave early'. I think if you'd have left around 7.30am there wouldn't have been any issues. No doubt they watched your every move and let you stay the night.
I’ve applied the same rules for over 30 yrs. Never had a problem or been moved. Overnighting has been totally spoilt during COVID and by idiots. It’s a shame, but its own popularity will be its downfall really.

It is ashame that some ruin it for others but in all honesty there were signs up saying no camping but you handled it well and he seemed like an ok chap in the end,I wish England was more accommodating for us van dwellers
Staying over in a vehicle is not camping, in a tent it would be camping. On an aire it's not allowed to put any stuff out like chairs and tables, awnings etc etc. I Spain i read that the only thing allowed outside of the vehicle is levelling ramps. so, don't put stuff on the ground outside but of course in a car you can do all sorts of stuff and no-one complains buit a campervan, oh dear oh dear. dear
I know where you were Shaun, I once had an issue there with the locals when using the dive centre. Well done on talking to the bloke calmly & putting your point across. Did you see Ben Fogle this week on TV doing a programme on van life people?
The cabal in Westminster don't want people living in camper vans, that's why they are doing their best to outlaw it after all we are all being milked by them
Tbh The amount of camper vans and small RVs I see bassically blocking entire pull-ins off in Scotland, so no one else can park over night. I had one couple explain to me that they'd planned on being at a spot that night and didn't want anyone else around - it was the only suitable pull-in for 17 miles.
Great to see another video, it's a tough thing to handle that situation. Clearly he was fed up along with the rest of the village how people have treated the place and typically it is a situation of the few ruining it for the many. Hopefully you changed their perception a little?
Cheers for standing up for most campers we love the outdoors & so of us often tidy beaches. It's the minority spoiling it for the majority. I love your adventures keep them coming.
We've been campervanning for well over 20 years. If a place says 'no camping' or whatever, guess what? We don't stop overnight there! I've no idea what your point was.
I’ve been camper vanning for nearly 30 years and these illegal signs are popping up all over and if no one challenges it we will lose all our freedom. I’d much rather pay a fine and park there then let this country turn into somewhere that’s has even more rules and control

It’s a difficult situation but they’ve made it very clear they don’t want MHs camping there. Tbh I understand, we have the same problem with Vans parked everywhere where I live, tiny beach car parks full of MHs. In the summer in Scotland there’s far too many MHs so that every view is blocked by them. Visitors and locals alike can’t visit some beaches because of MHs We’ve gone to great expense to provide Aires in some of the most beautiful places but they won’t use them because they have to pay a minimal charge. Cemetery car parks are full but of them too so locals have had enough now. The situation is only going to get worse . I know some won’t like what I say and I mean no disrespect Shaun, I love your videos but respect locals wishes and you’ll find them helpful. That man was wrong too by being confrontational
Ok Shaun, as an ex copper who spent 30 years dealing with many ‘angry’ people, I thought you dealt with that situation brilliantly. Yes, you may have been in the wrong, however, you justified it with a very positive discussion. I know wild camp in my van, it is becoming more difficult to find good spots, so I enjoy your travels!
With all respect being an ex copper isn’t the be all. He was in the wrong, period. That isn’t justified because he tied up yet another local in an entitled conversation. Can they not just enjoy their morning walk, in their home area without having to debate camping yet again. The sign says no camping and there’s a campsite up the road.
@@christinedunn5709 What you need to understand is that anyone can put up a sign saying whatever they want (within reason), but it’s the law that determines whether something is lawful or not. In my experience, most people are ignorant of the law and operate upon assumptions. If someone is making claims, he needs to be able to quote the relevant law, or he’s better off just minding his own business. I spent years in the military, and did all sorts of specialist security work afterwards. In all that time I never approached anyone with an attitude like that bloke did. At one time I also had to handle some of the most dangerous and nasty dogs you’ve ever seen (Not my choice), until one started reacting badly to children!! I didn’t even make a fuss over that. I just parked the thing in the boss’s office and quit. Some people like to cause drama. Others invite it. My experience is that if you treat people as you’d expect to be treated yourself (The Golden Rule), most people are good. Gypsies, Muslim gangs, drunks, dangerous psychopaths - all part of life’s rich pageant. One day I met a former enemy at an exhibition centre in London. The world turns. Peace 🏴
As an ex cop, you will also know Shaun was not in the wrong technically, as trespass is a civil offence and he needs to be told to leave before it becomes trespass. As you say he handles he situationvey well.
If I remember that far back, taking ‘coney’ (rabbit) on a Sunday is mentioned somewhere in the definition of trespass, and has to be committing a common law offence 👮♂️😂
stopping somewhere overnight where you know you shouldnt, yeah youre doing great things for the van community!!!! well done. just dont do it! guess you just feel entitled to do what you want!
You handled it well, and he did lighten up which was good. I wouldn't have got out at 1. No chance. I wild camp all over Devon and Cornwall. And honestly cannot remember seeing a mess from campers anywhere. I've seen take away bags and cans from time.to time and am sure this is not campers. But like you I pick it up. Great video.
They shouldn't charge people to stay overnight there because those type of situations ruin the landscape. I grew up and I'm from Seattle Washington, and the increase of urban campers has destroyed our local beaches, it's polluted our waterways, and now a glacial lake that I grew up next to called bitter lake is completely and usable because of the camping that has taken place. The campers urinated and defecated into the lake, which is small, and it caused a whole bunch of algae bloom and that has killed off all the local fish, the entire West portion of the park has been partitioned and fenced off permanently until they go through a complete bio overhaul which includes soil removal, soil replacement, replacement of native plants that were destroyed, replacement of anti-erosion landscaping, it's just a huge mess. And it's costing millions.
Your sense of entitlement is utterly gobsmacking! And then you have the audacity to give that guy attitude, for something YOU did wrong??! Thoroughly unlikable.
Makes me laugh that people move to an area then tell everyone else they can’t visit that area. If you don’t like visitors then don’t buy a house near a tourist location. It’s the same as people buying houses near an airport and then complaining about the noise.
They're not telling people they can't visit the area. Unless you think the only way to visit an area is to do it in a camper van and then park up wherever you like.
Well of course people hate van campers, they own $60-80,000 dollar vans and then want to cheap out and camp for free everywhere. The funniest part is they put up blackout curtains and think nobody knows they’re in there. Lol And they’re probably snobby grammar police too.
It’s that type of attitude from that man that stops me from going to places like Devon and Cornwall, much prefer to go abroad where they welcome you with open arms plus the weather is so much better!
Yep I dont bother with either Devon or Cornwall on the basis of a minority of the locals who just have some pathologically hatred for those of us who have campervans. My view has always been to leave no trace, and buy locally while I am there - thus not only enjoying their community, but putting money in their economy from a passing tourist, and then leaving the place as I found it. Its the people that dont do any of this that spoil it for the rest of us.
@@DS-cf1zc It's not just campervans there is a strong anti-tourist movement in Cornwall. It's very off putting to visit a place with tourists f off graffiti
It's a real shame because we do exactly the same. Litter picks at most stops. But there's more and more overnight parking signs going up in the last 6 months. Unfortunately we have to do vanlife UK 🇬🇧 full time for a while, whilst waiting for our D7 visas to come through, then we'll be back in Portugal 🇵🇹 full time 🙌🫶👍
I can understand the chaps point that campers are not welcome in their village but there’s no need to start off swearing at you - he was obviously looking for a confrontation from the get go. I live in a village on the north coast of Cornwall and we have a lot of campers stay all year round. It’s great because our pubs also stay open all year to cater for the tourism. Most campers are respectful and tidy up - not all though
There is a great need to start off swearing at him, he did see the signs and as usual with ALL the motor home/van camper types they ignore them with a self entitled attitude. Even on campsites were there are allotted spaces you see the van people ignore the allotted spaces and plonk their oversized heaps where ever and then hog water feeds or pour there waste down toilets.
@@Chris66able I accept that people do not like campers ignoring the signs. I disagree with the aggressive and chav behaviour of swearing and looking for a conflict. I believe a courteous discussion would have a more positive outcome for both the locals and the campers

Nice video Shaun great beach clean and a good conversation with the local gentleman. I know the beach well and i agree with your suggestion of one night only. Thanks for sharing as always.
I can understand their issues with camping.they probably fed up with vans and camper vans parking up outside their homes and also with rubbish problems. But on the other side, if they're thay bothered, make areas specifically for vans and pot facilities in to encourage them to use them. The money that's collected could be used for the area. As for the situation, u were very respectful and he should have been the same swearing and mouthing off isn't the answer
I know where that place is, and just checked on their website... "Due to a number of reasons we do not permit overnight camping of any sort on this beach - no tents, vans, campers, caravans etc - PLEASE DO NOT OFFEND OR UPSET THE RESIDENTS OF ******** BY IGNORING THIS Legal campsites with lovely facilities are available nearby" I don't know if they put this up before or after your visit, but I agree with you; they're missing out on what could be a vital income stream if they 'policed' it more warmly. As you say, he turned out to be quite reasonable, but he could have opened a little more calmy.
The problem is 90% of camper van owners have zero interest in camp sites that are now charging £25-30 a night - absolute total rip off & make going out in the van financially impossible, we need a campaign to get sensibly priced park ups, well, frankly, free parks ups - like the rest of the evolved world, the UK is draconian in these terms.
what part of we dont want people camping on our beach do you not understand would you welcome somebody who just turned up and stopped on your front garden against your wishes ? no didnt think so
I have to admit I see their point. The divvies who go around making a mess spoil it for everybody. I don't do camper vans, but do like a wild camp in my local area there are loads of idiots who leave beer bottles, rubbish and campfire scars. Problem is people only notice when the idiots have been, nobody spots the ones who don't as they leave no trace.
I don't agree with parking somewhere that specifically says no parking. I think there should be a lot more overnight parking places though with a time limit so you don't get the permanent travellers taking over. Campsites for the week and overnight for those touring. As most people say, leave the place the same or better than when you came.
I’m afraid the balance has been tipped now. Here in north Wales there are vans everywhere now. Signs are ignored, rubbish dumped and most of us locals have found human shit. Van owners stay for free, bring all their own food and contribute little or nothing to the local economy. The roads they travel on, the A&E departments they use, the paths on the mountains that are maintained - they all cost money. Meanwhile local campsites are losing trade. If you want people to stop getting pissed off then put your hand in your pocket and stop freeloading. I say this as a camper and lover of the outdoors.
Don’t blame the locals getting fed up with people parking their vans on the beach and it was pretty obvious not too. But hey ho am parking anyway so what’s the problem. It’s all about trying to get some vid for TH-cam SAD
I live in a community on the NC500 and for every considerate camper van person there are about a dozen incosiderate ones. For example turning up at a cemetry and useing the headstones as a windbreak for their fire, theft of hounesy boxes and the amount of rubbish left doesn't bear thinking about. People in rented mobile homes are the worst and but all MH's, campers and van campers are now seen in a bad light.
This is a real shame. I'm heading there in 6 weeks and not being welcome is a worry. I have booked on a few sites but sites aren't what it's all about for me. I wouldn't dream of causing a mess or a nuisance. I tend to find pubs that are happy for you to stay if you eat there.

Join the Camping & Caravanning Club or the Motorhome & Caravan Club and you can go to their weekend meets or longer Temporary Holiday Site meets. For example there is one at Beadnell on the beautiful Northumberland Coast, one field away from the beach, which is open for 23 nights in July/August and no need to book if you are a C&C Club member. Usually between £10 to £13 a night (£10 at Beadnell) but all you get is somewhere to fill up your water barrel, bins for your rubbish and a place to empty your toilet cassette but its safe, clean and well ordered. But with gas bottles and solar panels/battery for cooking and heating, you have all you need.

When ever I find myself in similar situations, I smile inwardly, have a little chuckle & think of nonsensical sayings. e.g. 'You can never plan for people' as well as 'How can I fly like an Eagle when I'm surrounded by Turkeys' You're a good guy that doesn't impact on others, yet all the NIMBY's & sad unhappy people try to impair their vitriol toward anyone that doesn't comply with their miserable contained ways. I completely understand where the guy is coming from, imagine how full that beach would get in the summer with vans and let's face facts not every one is clean and respectful. Sheer numbers of visitors would completely ruin the charm of the place and would devalue local properties and make their lives miserable for at least half the year. Enjoyed the video, sandwich looked nice , seeing as you have plenty of power in the van have you considered using an air fryer/grill (ninja) cooks just about everything with little fuss and no steam and fat hanging in a small space.
The more I see of this, the more I agree more with the good camper permit idea you had several videos ago! Regardless of right or wrong, I never approach anyone with such a aggressive tone especially when the dogs are taking him for a walk. Always be pleasant even with confrontations.. well done for being calm.
Hi another great video 👍the thing is the bag of rubbish that you collected (and well done for that) wasn’t from people staying overnight or mistreating it it’s just what’s washed up on the beach, and it’s locals tarring everyone with the same brush, but I do understand if I was lucky enough to live in a beautiful location like that I’d probably be protective over it too, and like you said there is always someone that spoils it for others 😢 that’s why I mainly stay on a camp site as I hate confrontation ..
Well done on handling that so well Shaun. One part of me doesn't get how a beach can be privately owned but not enjoyed however, I totally get how things can get out of hand with some people abusing it leaving a wake of rubbish and bad vibes for the locals. It's a shame there isn't some kind of payment system so they can at least, like you said, make some money to help maintain the area and also give something back to the people that live there. Better luck with the pub and locals next time! :)
What’s the problem? No fucking camping here, but you know you see the sign but you didn’t give a shit mate so you said fuck it. I’ll camp here and wonder why people get pissy at you.
Other than the pub and the diving trips, is there actually anything to do there, or see? Are there even any shops there? It seems like a bit of a drive just to park on a Stone beach and then go back out the way you came. They don’t seem interested in having any tourism there at all! Glad you posted this. Scrubbed off my list of places to visit! I know from my own trips around Cornwall, that especially in that general area and all the way to Falmouth, I’ve never felt welcome by locals, which is in stark difference to the north coast of Cornwall, where they can’t do enough to welcome you!!!
all these budding outdoor campervan idiots are acting like the uk is the outback. Just a pain in the arse most locals don’t want . I fully agree with the locals view . In reference to value in to the village, They will probably cost more in clean ups than they make on pitch hire. Most motorhome fanatics don’t have a clue how to manage the countryside or respect boundaries.
Nice beach to stay on, but the lanes down to it are quite tight in places, love the pub there, sitting outside watching the sun go down with the friendly locals (there are some around 😂) with a beer- heaven
His frustration is probably well-founded, but it's hardly the way to express it. Thought you handled it very well. People often turn reasonable when confronted directly. A couple of cheap cameras would give you peace of mind without having to get out of the van and look around! Great vid - thanks.
The new mantra is "leave it better than you found it!" I've done the same when car camping as you kinda always have the "It would be messier if I hadn't stayed here" as a backup and further evidence that there are no nefarious intentions to your stay. All outdoors enthusiast youtubers should promote this in their videos in all honesty. Always take an extra black sack with you to clear up. Top tip for a great rare steak, keep the pan dry and go max heat. Oil or butter the steak not the pan then you can get the pan searing hot without smoking out the van and get those seared sides. I think I would have found a different location for breakfast and try to get out of there early to avoid any confrontation tho I appreciate it is easier to make that decision with the benefit of heindsight but if I'm somewhere I'm not totally sure I'm supposed to be, I tend to get out of there pretty quick. Thing is, I've got a car so pop out the window covers and it is just another parked car and not a van life vehicle. Great to see the work you are doing and the van setup as I am currently planning a build.
Anyone can put up a sign that’s not law abiding. The elite have no right to say they own a beach and you’re not welcome there. Some people will roll over like you but I will fight it
@@LoveSundays It's not about 'rolling over'. It's about respecting other people. And you are a disrespectful entitled brat. If nobody was allowed to even set foot on the beach, then I would agree that people should fight it. But all they ask is for no one to overnight camp on it. You are the one in the wrong.
Well if the sign says no overnight camping, follow suit. Not that difficult. If i was a local and this was a persistent issue, i wouldn't blame they way they acted. Get on with it and stop trying to bend the rules or customs of the locals.
Hi 'Love Sundays' I am not quite sure what to make of this video. I am glad you kept things calm with the local chap with the dogs....that could have turned a bit messy. I did a lot of wild camping and camper vanning and you need to respect the locals.......you ignored the 'No overnight camping' sign ......why 😅 Anyway...take care.....and stop drinking the "Non Alcoholic" beer as it seems to effect your choice of parking😊
Chap came up spoiling for a scrap then wonders why his dogs are doing the same. 'Oh don't do that' has he clings to the leads. ... you literally were just doing the human equivalent to this chap in the camper. Everyone cool the fluff down and treat each other with some dang respect
You broke the rules, simple. Dont know why its so hard for people to accept when they have messed up. Like the morons on the road who flip you off when they cut you up and think that you are in the wrong for giving them a little toot. Everyones happy to live their lives, but when it impacts on someone else through their selfishness and desire to just do what they want, they get all up tight about it and try and tell those who are right for pointing out the rules and requests, that are there for good reason, that they are the ones in the wrong for not just pampering to their needs with full unmolested compliance.
The few have spoiled it for the majority, it’s the old story not just about campers. I can truly understand the locals not wanting the area to be spoiled and littered, I have seen it too many times and it’s not always people camping that have left litter. One thing that struck me is what he said “you never know who is in the van”, why disturb whoever is in the van? You handled the situation well and rose above his swearing and eventually talked him down so that he wasn’t confrontational and moderated his language. Hope he picked up after his dogs as if not that makes him as bad as the stereotypical camper he is so worried about.
is it me or did that chap seem like he wasn’t exactly local, seems like most of Cornwall coast has all been sold to the well off pushing out the local inhabitants
We camped a lot when I was growing up. Mom and Dad always made us walk the area and pickup any trash we found. When we asked why they always said the same thing “You should always leave a place better than when you came”. Thanks for being such a good example.
Locals of the area appreciate it too. I clean the whole area before I leave. I take garbag others left behind
You have great parents
I am puzzled by the support for someone staying on an area which is clearly signed not to. Then people wonder why campervans get a bad name. Personally, if I read those signs and/or as you did from your research, then I would simply find somewhere else.
It was a protest! Too many second homes in this town when young family’s are forced to live on the street. STOP SECOND HOMES!
The guy in the van was the local. The man with the dogs is not from around there!
Keep the great vids coming . It’s inspirational and I’m hoping to go full time van life by June. 👍🏻
Thank you very much
Just because there is a suitable place to stop doesn not entitle you to stop there. Often someone has moved there and attempted to enclose land/beaches thus denying other use so locals have had to challenge and then correct the ownership. I am sick of people saying what others SHOULD do with their property - as in have a camper site, allow fires, allow dogs, etc.
Just because someone put a sign there doesn't mean it is his property.
Do you not see the irony in your comment?
😂😂😂
No camping overnight means just that.
The problem is too many tourists. These sandy coves are tiny and there’s literally millions of city dwellers being egged on to buy camper vans to enjoy the “freedom”.
The man was fair with you.
Yes but he didn't need to act like that. You would never know this guy was ever there
Bleach belongs to the crown. Have a look at the Law.
@@Paul-rp7uh absolutely 💯 👌
If there are no camping signs on show then it's no wonder that any locals would have a go at you and it wouldn't matter how nice you are. To say that the locals are missing a trick by not charging campers to stay on the beach is missing the point of why people live in a place like that. They couldn't careless about any monetary gain, they just want peace and freedom from the masses.
"If there are no camping signs on show" then camping is allowed. Of course, if there are 'no camping' signs on show, then it isn't.

Respectfully and objectively speaking, a big white van parked up on a pretty shingle beach taints the aesthetic. Unfortunately, we now live in a society where reactions to misdemeanours are ridiculed more-so than the misdemeanours themselves.
Yes sir
We full-time and the sign said no camping and a sign with a red line through a motorhome. On this occasion you are wrong . Dawlish warren tried to allow overnight parking, within 4 weeks it turned into a sh.. house
Their ought to be more campsites 👍
To be fair. That wasn't the best place to park a van overnight. I though that stealth camping was about being discreet and stopping out of the way. Not right in front of the locals faces, on their beach!
Nice one picking up the trash, the more you look the more you see as until you look closer it can appear quite tidy on a shingly beach.

Thanks
There was a campsite just up the road, he chose not to use it.

I can totally see why they limit this. It’s frustrating trying to find a park up but every time I pull into a popular spot where a few vans are it’s noisy and ppl take over. Iv seen ppl putting fire pits in the road and filling the place to the point that the locals can’t come in and go for a walk.
Lights don't indicate much, in my Mum's road there's not a single light visible but every house is occupied.
A lot of people involved in the tourist trade do so well, especially from holiday homes, cleaning managing, maintaining etc that they will often holiday abroad in the winter. @@christinedunn5709 What you need to understand is that anyone can put up a sign saying whatever they want (within reason), but it’s the law that determines whether something is lawful or not.

@@Chris66able I disagree Chris. Unless the other chap is the land owner, it’s not really his place to be confronting people. He was just trying to intimidate whoever was in the van. Could’ve been a female. Could’ve been someone with children. Swearing and shouting like a thug - not cool in my opinion
Very well handled mate, its a shame others have ruined it for the good, respectable campers.
He turned out to be a nice guy. All it takes is communication.
If you know you know 🏖️…
Yes sometimes it just better to talk about it
Some nosey old sod
Lol - or follow the rules, as written on the clear sign.
Lived there for 9 months in the 90s...it’s magnificent, no wonder no one wants ‘everyone’ turning up in vans etc
A bit disappointed with the video when actually seeing the no camping signs.
Nice video Shaun great beach clean and a good conversation with the local gentleman. I know the beach well and i agree with your suggestion of one night only. Thanks for sharing as always.
You can't always grt what you want.
No why should they make areas for vans?
I know where that place is, and just checked on their website...
"Due to a number of reasons we do not permit overnight camping of any sort on this beach
- no tents, vans, campers, caravans etc -
PLEASE DO NOT OFFEND OR UPSET THE RESIDENTS OF ******** BY IGNORING THIS
Legal campsites with lovely facilities are available nearby"
I don't know if they put this up before or after your visit, but I agree with you; they're missing out on what could be a vital income stream if they 'policed' it more warmly. As you say, he turned out to be quite reasonable, but he could have opened a little more calmy.
A big chap comes flying out of a van at him & he's supposed to be calm?
As most people say, leave the place the same or better than when you came.
well done saving the planet!
The money the NC500 brings in though
@@MegaChinster very little as they tend to top up with what they need at cheaper supermarkets in Inverness and then speed round the route stopping in laybys, beaches side of the road etc. before setting off in the morning.
I dont understand why people think its their job to enforce roles. The car park was massive and there was no issues
Too much people love to tell other what to or not to do.
i remember a sign which said " Arbeit macht frei ([ˈaʁbaɪt ˈmaxt ˈfʁaɪ]) is a German phrase meaning "Work sets you free" or "Work makes one free". The slogan originates from a 1873 novel by Lorenz Diefenbach. It is known for appearing on the entrance of Auschwitz and other Nazi concentration camps" rules are made by tyrants and rules are made to be broken ! in my humble opinion !!
Probably because there are just as many who think they can break them 🤷♂️
There are lot of issues with that particular car park, which is why I won't park on it.
Little Hitlers they can’t help themselves
Great video, just a shame about the guys confrontational attitude. There's a similar issue up here in Aberdeen with old Cove harbour. Not the kind of place you'd want to stop overnight but it's "owned" by someone who refuses to let the local fishermen access to their boats. And despite the land being "his", it's an absolute eyesore. Madness!

Hi bud I am in Scotland and some of wild camping spots have been trashed and ruined but I am like you pick up other people's trash and still get grief from the locals awra best Harry
We always book and stay on sites, it saves a ton of grief.
@@raymondporter2094 Noted thanks. We camped mostly with our inflatable tent, but as the old bones start to creak we decided it was time to get a caravan. I have been south of the country, and although there are some nice spots, I tend to find it a tad too crowded. Being that I live 'up norf' I love the hills and just want to find a few caravan sites where it is clean, quiet - most of all quiet! and reasonably priced.
It's like everything, the odd few ruin stuff for the majority. You dealt with the situation very well
When ever I find myself in similar situations, I smile inwardly, have a little chuckle & think of nonsensical sayings. I support your way of life 100%. As the Surfers would say in the 80's 'Go for it'
Good job on the litter pick. Private would generally point to trespass, but you handled the conflict well. 😊
Very well handled pal. Done with dignity and respect for the locals.as usual.
There is a sign saying no camper vans so where is the respect there ?
Should have some “make sure you can control your dogs signs”
I know where it is too. But I’m keeping schtum. It’s a hidden peaceful gem and needs to stay that way.
Finally my Sunday morning feels complete again.... ahhhh
I camped out once in minus 6 without a diesel heater..... really cold. Stay safe
all these budding outdoor campervan idiots are acting like the uk is the outback. Just a pain in the arse most locals don’t want . I fully agree with the locals view .
In reference to value in to the village, They will probably cost more in clean ups than they make on pitch hire. Most motorhome fanatics don’t have a clue how to manage the countryside or respect boundaries.
why not use Britstops , it's so easy and you will be welcome?
Nice beach to stay on, but the lanes down to it are quite tight in places, love the pub there, sitting outside watching the sun go down with the friendly locals (there are some around 😂) with a beer- heaven
Love your progs mate… used to live in north Devon on the border and miss it dearly
Great to see the work you are doing and the van setup as I am currently planning a build.
ps. The signs don't say, "oh you can stay here if you're NOT one of those rowdy types"...no, it says, "No overnight camping".
@@LoveSundaysyou’re a waste of space
Well if the sign says no overnight camping, follow suit. Not that difficult. If i was a local and this was a persistent issue, i wouldn't blame they way they acted. Get on with it and stop trying to bend the rules or customs of the locals.
Hi 'Love Sundays'
I am not quite sure what to make of this video.
I am glad you kept things calm with the local chap with the dogs....that could have turned a bit messy.
I did a lot of wild camping and camper vanning and you need to respect the locals.......you ignored the 'No overnight camping' sign ......why 😅
Anyway...take care.....and stop drinking the "Non Alcoholic" beer as it seems to effect your choice of parking😊
You don't need to respect any dickheads that come after you. 😂
Yum! Got me taste buds yearning. Great video. Loved your pillow idea in the air vent. Might try that.
Well said!
NO PAL YOU MUST OF SEEN THE SIGN -Don't be Lazy Don't be an Arsehole
Im sure he will love his new youtube fame
is it me or did that chap seem like he wasn’t exactly local, seems like most of Cornwall coast has all been sold to the well off pushing out the local inhabitants
