You can, but you may need to try many times, it took me 20 times using this glitch to finally get the Assert to work. It will take about 10 times for the turret version of the assert.

It doesn't work with all non customizable vehicles, it works with a few like the monster trucks, but not with others like the Lightning. It did work with Nightblade's car though, which was pretty cool.
it's not working for me does it have to be a specific vehicle for it to work or is it just patched I'm playing on Xbox 360 edit: never mind I got it working you just can't drive a vehicle inside
